@starrybramble
an ordinary and normal unit of dragon halberdiers
the carcass of the mall splays out and festers in decay
the once white paints have faded first to yellow then to gray
the fountains changed from crystal jets to pools of fetid slime
but there inside the old gamestop remains a friend of mine
his cardboard silhouette stands guard, protecting lesser cards
the mildewed chunks of pikachu, the tattered charizards
my friends called him "the worst of all", "the creepy pokemon"
yet he alone could go past death and see what lay beyond
his hair still blue, his gloves still white, untouched by weight of time
the king of a forgotten land, the famous mister mime
i see in him a fisher king, but only in reverse
he only lives and glows with life part of a foul curse
he is what doomed the mall to die, the corpse that can eternal lie
inside the grave that holds the past and i, inside, am just the last
to crawl inside this rotten tomb, a child yearning for a womb
that will not fit! too much has changed!
the past is gone and im deranged!
if this is then, then where is now?
the past bleeds up and then we drown
in memory, in pantomime,
in silent depths of ancient time
pretending to be what we're not
surrounded by a world of rot
the mime is me. the mime is you. the mime will fester like mildew
and spread beyond the mall one day
to feast upon some new decay.

And then you're like "fuck it, I'll make my own" and once you've done that you toss it into the goodwill bin to be someone else's prada or container of human teeth
And sometimes you gotta go with the container of human teeth purely out of morbid curiosity.
The container of human teeth is what I was looking for specifically. If you must know.
The Smash Bros. cast swapping anecdotes about their various evil doppelgangers and Mario getting into an argument about whether Wario counts.
Surprisingly, Mario is arguing that Wario does not count as he has literally never made that connection in his life. You can’t just say every fat italian in overalls is a Mario counterpart, he’s his own person with hopes and dreams. Evil hopes and dreams, but still.
Daisy, meanwhile, manages to argue very convincingly that Peach should be considered her evil doppelganger.
Wario is playing Devil’s advocate because being Mario’s evil doppleganger is great for business. If he was just some guy, nobody would buy Warioware.

I've decided to use the term "convenience food" instead of "junk food."
I think it's more honest, and less loaded. It's all food, some of it is more appropriate when you don't have the spoons left for food prep. It takes slightly more energy to peel a banana than to open a bag of chips.
We try to save the convenience food for days when we need something easy, so eat a banana.
ENNH! WRONG ANSWER
All food fuels your body. If it contains calories, it is fuel. Some foods are denser fuels, some foods have nice additional benefits, but all foods fuel you.
Some foods are really good for building muscle, or supporting your bone health, or giving you energy. Some foods are really good at tasting nice. All of them fuel your body.
Good food/bad food is just puritan dichotomous thinking in service of the Shame Industrial Complex- let's get those "should" hooks intob everything you enjoy.
Food is fuel. Your relationship with it is personal. Almost all dichotomies oversimplify beyond utility.
So, I had to do a bunch of therapy as a kid because I had anorexia. My dietician drilled into me "food has no moral value. there's no such thing as Good Food or Bad Food; if it's edible and you're not allergic to it, then it has a use in your diet, even if that use is just 'enjoy eating it'. Enjoyment is part of your diet and happiness is a vital nutrient." Basically, even if ice cream "isn't healthy," if it helps you feel better after a shitty day then it's fulfilling one of your basic needs: happiness. So eat the fucking ice cream and feel better. ENJOYMENT IS PART OF YOUR DIET AND HAPPINESS IS A NUTRIENT
Not pertinent to anything in particular but I do think it's kinda weird that we keep depicting cavemen in media crawling around on all fours covered in dirt with tangled, matted hair, speaking in broken, cobbled-together toddler language when like.
They were us.
Like literally genetically they were US, just like. A while ago.
Like
Would you trust a TV caveman with a baby? Probably not
A real life caveman though??? I think they'd be at least okay at it
This is actually really important and comes up in Anthropology classes all. The. Time.
As long as homo sapiens have existed, we have had the same emotional and mental capacity as you and I do today. You nailed it. They were US. Even Neaderthals existed alongside and had offspring with Homo Sapiens for many thousands of years.
There's much evidence that cavemen would have had complex spoken language, culture (learned information passed down), symbolic interpretation, and I think they most certainly would have been able to handle holding a baby. In fact I have my suspicisions that an ancient homo sapiens mother may be a more present, attentive, and knowledgable mom than I could be today.
Do not let media trick you into believing we are the pinnacle of humanity. Unilinial evolution theory (google it quick I beg) is BUNK, GARBAGE, and the root of so much evil.
We've been human for a long, long time, and we are not inherently better than all those who came before.
One the most profound experiences of my life was visiting Font de Gaume, which has 12 thousand year old paintings. They use a technique where the horses appeared to run across the wall when seen in flickering firelight. There was a bison the wall staring at us with such attitude, I could practically hear him. I had the most profound feeling of those ancient artists reaching forward to lay their hands on my shoulders. To say, "This was my world." It was a profoundly moving experience.
Some years later, I went to the Orkney islands where we visited a tiny family run museum of artifacts from the chambered tomb at the other end of the farm. They handed me a pestle once held by some neolithci human. They'd worn groves where the thumb and forefinger would be for better grip.
One time, in a French history class, my teacher randomly at the end of the class had all of us draw a sketch of a horse. And we were all like ??? Okay???
At the beginning of the next class, my teacher showed us a cave painting of a horse. And then he showed all of our horses, which he had scanned and put into the presentation.
He then pointed out all the ways that our horses looked similar to the prehistoric horse. Same features, drawn from the same angle, etc.
And then he asked us, "Isn't it cool that you draw horses the same way as someone who lived 20,000 years ago?"
Yeah. That stuck with me for a while.
In Spain, there's a cave full of ancient, ice age era drawings of bison and reindeer and other animals of that period... And one small section of chaotic scribbles just a little away from everything else. These scribblesv were so incomprehensible, they were originally just called the 'Panel of Enigmatic Signs'... Until it occurred to someone that drawings only three feet off the ground probably weren't made by adults.
Scientists are now pretty sure the scribbles were made by kids ages 3-6, more or less on their own. The adult cave artists were probably doing what any modern parent might do when they want to keep small children out of their hair for awhile: they gave the kids some drawing tools of their own and a small section of wall to work on, out of the way but still close enough to keep an eye on them, and let them have at it.
What's most charming about the whole thing is the way the cave scribbles look exactly like what you'd find on the wall of a preschool today. Artistic styles vary widely across different times and cultures, but child development is as near to a universal human experience as it gets.
Wisher made detailed 3D scans of the drawings, which helped her understand the uneven pressure applied to the charcoal and the direction the lines were drawn. The team then compared the panel’s composition with age-appropriate artistic efforts by modern children. Kids across cultures go through the same developmental stages, which influence their physical ability to draw, until about the age of 6, Amir notes.
The team compared the ancient art with the developmental stages exhibited by modern children: the furiously scribbled circles and push-pull lines typical of 3-year-olds just learning to control their bodies, for example, or the wobbly, right-angled figures of slightly older kids beginning to master fine motor skills.
Both are apparent in the cave, superimposed on each other as though two or more kids were drawing at once. That’s a clue the Las Monedas marks were likely made by “siblings or a mixed-age play group within the sphere of safety around adults, but also within their own space,” says co-author Felix Riede, an Aarhus archaeologist.
...
Adults at Las Monedas would have been aware of what the kids were doing and presumably had lit fires or torches; without ample firelight the cave is pitch black.
I really love those images of the universe with all of the different colors colliding, so I decided to use it in an image.

I remember one time I got INSANELY high off of edibles while playing Among Us, and it quickly became apparent to the other players online. I forget how honestly but literally anything "sus" I did was ignored by everyone because I was so fucking high. I tested this theory by standing in front of a body and the person that actually reported it didn't even mention me. The funniest part was when I was trying to do wires, I kept fucking up over and over again, so I was just standing in front of wires for actual minutes trying to figure it out. A small crowd of players gathered around me to watch and would get mad every time someone reported a body or emergency meeting because "she's never going to get her tasks done if you keep interrupting them." I don't think anyone cared about winning at that point, they just wanted to see the high crew mate succeed in her tasks.
THIS IS 1000% ACCURATE LMFAO. Thank you op
Ohhhh yeah
Being a ranger I spend a lot of time alone in the wilderness for hours in the company of one of four co workers.
One such worker for the purpose of this post we shall refer to as Dave.
Dave is a very quiet man. He confesses that if conversation happens too quickly and for too long he gets tired so we often work in silence. He's very polite and good natured but it's obvious that he would happily live and work alone for the rest of his life given the option.
He's very much in the previous generation of ranger, a practical man in his fourties or fifties happy to be kept physically busy for a day and then be sent home with some pay. I had to show him how to use a work issued smart phone.
Meanwhile the rest of the team is made up of the current generation of rangers; openly nurodivergent queer women in their twenties or thirties who work this job because it's the only setting where we can vaguely look sane.
So Dave sticks out a bit. It's really nice when he opens up though because he's an impulsive individual when left to his own devices and has plenty of stories to tell if the mood takes him. I really like working with Dave.
Anyway, one day we've got a job that takes a three hour hike to get to and early on the topic of deer comes up.
I hadn't realised this was the first time we had discussed deer, but blatantly it was. Dave's entire demeanour changes, there's a bit of passion in his voice, but it's also hushed as if he's talking about something sacred.
"Deer are my favourite animal." He says.
I'm also eager to hear Dave talk about himself, so I encourage him to say more.
"I'd love to be a deer myself."
And more
"If a genie offered me the opportunity to become a deer I'd take it. I wouldn't even stop to ask what the price was."
And more
"Sometimes I feel like I'm a deer having a dream about being a human.*
And there I am, a long time commuter to the therian/otherkin community keeping up the encouraging face of someone being politely interested, knowing that this man is straight up a therian with no frame of reference.
And I decided that I wouldn't push the subject outside of the bounds of what Dave is comfortable with, I wouldn't try to teach him the terms "Therian" or "Otherkin" but absolutely I would talk with this man as if he's a deer.
And it's a bit magical really. He's an impulsive individual so I have to talk him out of some risky choices every so often and "this is why deer like you keep getting stuck in fences" has become this magical phrase that allows him to step down from a mistake with a bit of a smile on his face.

My genuine dream is domestication kind of forcebutch. Show me that true masculinity is about service. Brainwash me into your perfect househusband. Every chore I do for you makes me more and more conditioned, the rhythm ingraining your words into my mind. Make me exercise just for your pleasure, just so you have a pretty eye candy to enjoy. Make me show off my muscles to everyone like a good slut so everyone can tell what I am. I don't remember the last time I had an independent thought, but it's okay, you know I've always wanted to be this way. The point of my existence is to serve you and other dykes, nothing else matters. I'm meant to be used, mind and body alike.

It's difficult to talk about the politics of fetish art or pornography because people attribute a much more narrow and much more powerful set of meanings to it. Anything that is meant to titilate must elicit positive, noncritical emotions from the viewer and creator and must do so much more effectively than other media can. A horror movie might deal with something deeply traumatic and (by most people) be tolerated or praised for portraying that topic despite it existing primarily to entertain. In contrast, pornographic portrayals of something must be assumed exist only to "normalize" a corresponding negative behavior, and the viewer must be assumed to view it with no critical thought. Pornography can't have a range of opinions on a subject, depending on creator and audience politics. The politics have to be "pornography" which is necessarily "romanticization" which is necessarily "endorsement".
I really do think that all of this boils down to a lack of understanding that catharsis is typically the most successful and healthy way for people to deal with their thoughts/interests/wants in things that are socially unacceptable.
It's completely normal to have thoughts or wants that don't align with what is best for you in reality. It's why people struggle to stop themselves from looking at a car wreck. Like with the example of horror, it's good that people are able to engage with their morbid curiosity in things like death or gore without having to actually witness it. It doesn't even need to be something quite that taboo, either. People like to watch movies where the victim murders their assaulter not because they want to be assaulted or to murder someone themselves, but because it's cathartic. People like to watch drama series where bad things repeatedly happen to the characters and tune in each week, hoping to see more, not because they want bad things to happen to others or themselves, but because of the emotional release it gives them.
When it comes to small children it's encouraged to let them explore with things they aren't allowed to in day to day life, in a setting where its safe for them, because simply disallowing them to engage in their impulsions to pour out their drink on the floor, or color on the walls, or put something in an electrical outlet, won't make that want go away. By giving them a space to do those things safely, they can get catharsis for those wants. If your dog is chewing on your slippers, you don't forbid them from chewing altogether, you give them a chew toy.
The same concept applies to sex. Trying to bury your interest in taboo sex doesn't make it go away, it only makes you feel worse, developing harmful thoughts about yourself and others, and more likely to hurt yourself or others. Allowing yourself a safe space to explore these interests is the most effective way at making you a healthier, happier person and keep you from engaging in unsafe sex in secret.
The idea that sex, in particular, is more dangerous than any other wants people have and that sex in media is more capable of making people abandon their critical thinking and morals is a conservative puritan belief that is best left in the past.
