has anyone noticed that after the porn ban of 2018 tumblr was essentially killed from the mainstream and everyone flocked to other social media sites like twitter and meta. then those sites got enshittified to where twitter became Nazi Central and meta sites had an entire meme around getting “zucced” aka mark zuckerberg himself would ban you for saying a no-no word like fuck. and then the mainstream shifted to tiktok where infamous toddlerspeak sentences like “he got unalived by a pew pew” were born because if you once again say a no-no word like kill or gun or any other word that isn’t corporate i mean kid friendly then the algorithm will bury your post into the ground. and somehow we’ve come full circle and tumblr is now the most bearable social media site because although we can’t have female presenting nipples we can at least talk to each other like adults. has anyone noticed that at all or is it just me and the flaming skull
Tis not just you and the flaming skull. I noticed the route twitter was headed for before tumblr banned porn. I noticed from the distance of not having an active account on twitter. Teenage me joined twitter in 2012 due to a religious conference and the want for my tweet to be up on the big screen, if you can believe that. So to say I was already in toxic circles on Twitter already is not the wrong thing to tell anyone. A lot of the religious groups were calling for reform of twitter’s rules/censorship before Tumblr had banned porn. I knew not that they’d win somewhat, but I knew they were trying. And when twitter was more tolerable, I was told consistently to join twitter again. I said no because I saw what was on our horizon and fast approaching. For Tiktok, I don’t use that for Social Media and I take some of their videos with a grain of salt because there is false media presented there to cause fear-mongering. But I had the original media literacy from a young age that if you entered a space that was not for you, you were to exit and respect other people’s safe place. I was taught from middle school if you didn’t trust the source you got the information from, then to search for it on other news articles from both political parties and see what’s being said. Which maybe why I don’t trust 90% of what either side says when it comes to certain events. Basically, I had to learn to pick apart different articles for the truth of the matter is how I’m trying to phrase this. My dad taught me that one.
The thing is… USA stopped teaching the important skills of those types in the midst of covid because a lot of those kids had had iPads since they were two and instead of setting the rules, they just decided everywhere has to be safe for kids.
