Is there anyone out there with whom I can scream about Jenn Lyon’s A Chorus of Dragons? I finished Discord of Gods two days ago and I have SOOO MANY FEELINGS. (I literally got back onto this hellsite to find SOMEONE to talk to. Please help)
this kid is 14 oh my god is no one teaching children to protect themselves online anymore…
Meanwhile us olds are like: I don’t have a carrd and I’m not reading yours
Please don’t advertise your personal information, anyone could find that and use it however they want.
Oh my fucking god it isn’t 1998 anymore no one cares
??? Wtf does this mean??? 80% of employers google you before hiring you, child predators use that info to groom kids, abusers use that info against victims, police/government track activists online? Do you honestly think the internet has gotten safer since 1998????
also don’t tell any rando who wanders onto your blog with unknown intentions the specifics of how they can trigger you???? no????
the fact that its not 1998 anymore is exactly WHY you should be more fucking careful. do you have any idea the tools people have now compared to then? the fact that its gotten exponentially easier to find people in real life based off online info while young people have gotten extremely comfortable sharing all their personal details is deeply concerning.
im sorry no one ever taught you internet safety but that is NOT because its not important anymore. ITS MORE IMPORTANT THAN IT EVER WAS. please listen to the people whove been on the internet longer than youve been alive. our intentions are good and internet safety is vital. especially if youre queer, which i know for a fact a lot of you are.
If you don’t believe that people can track you online from a little bit of information, please check out this thread by Emily Gorcenski, an anti-fascist activist, where she breaks down how she was able to determine the exact location of someone’s storage unit based only on a photo in the New York Times. (Gorcenski also uses her super powers to out fascists, but in this case, she is using it on one of those people who were buying up hand sanitizer in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.)
The whole thread is fascinating, and is based on nothing more than a single photo, with most of the stuff she relies on to make the ID not even being in focus, let along in the foreground. Stuff you might never think about, like the angle between two building or the exact color of the storage unit doors.
Because you might think to yourself, “What is the harm of sharing a photo that shows the color of my storage unit doors??” But combined with your name and the fact that you live in, say, Eastern Tennessee, that might be all someone needs to narrow it down.
You should really read the whole thing, but to quote something she says at the end:
“The things that give you away are things that are not the focus of the shot. It’s details in the background, the foreground. Shadows, changes in coloration where they’re not expected. … I have geolocated people from pictures of cranes in the background of images, and use local construction permits to figure out where they are. I have used the shape of downspout guards and styles of siding to identify neighborhoods.”
And as she reminds us: You should always assume that bad actors are capable of doing this, too.
So for the love of all that is holy, please protect yourselves. Be conscious of what you share and where and who can see it. This stuff matters.
Not to mention, like……… predators lie. Predators will do one of these carrds with information specifically designed to lure people into a false sense of security.
I could say that I’m a 15 year old trans indigenous girl named Jess who lives in the inner suburbs of Sydney, and NOT A SINGLE word of that is remotely true, but how do you know??? How do you know whether I’m telling the truth or not??
But you might read it and think “oh she’s a minor like me; she’s Safe to talk to” or “she’s trans too she understands me on a personal level” or “I know her; her name is Jess” or “she’s indigenous, I can take her stances on indigenous topics as Truth” – but I’m not any of those things. And if I wrote all that and stated that they were true and you believed me then you would be in an inherently vulnerable position, because you would be believing I’m your age or have the same gender experiences as you or that I’m of the same heritage, and meanwhile I could be a predator who’s specifically trying to target children by making myself out to be both a minor and two different types of minority.
And yeah, people can lie all the time if they want to; there’s nothing to stop me right now from announcing that I’m actually American, or I’m actually 52, or I’m actually a natural redhead, or I’m actually [insert something that I am not]. But if its becoming commonplace to lay all your “basic” information on the table from the outset then youre gonna start taking that at face value. Youre gonna believe peoples bios. You’re gonna check someone’s carrd out and go “oh they’re a fourteen year old boy from wisconsin” and every interaction you have with them from then on is going to be through a lens of “theyre a fourteen year old boy from Wisconsin,” and they might not be.
For the love of GOD please stop sharing your personal details online. You dont need to tell people your actual name. You dont need to share selfies. Godding fuck dont announce to the whole world that you live in a certain specific area and that you’ve just been kicked out of home. There are people who will take that information and use it against you.
And if you are ever, EVER going to meet up with an online friend in real life, here are some basic tips that you really absolutely 100% should do:
Do a zoom chat with them first. No, not selfies; selfies can be taken from anywhere. I could google “teenage girl,” screenshot it, and send it to you with the claim that its my face. I could steal someone’s Facebook photos and claim they’re mine. Its a lot harder for an adult to con you into thinking theyre a teenager if you insist on doing a zoom call or similar with them first.
If you have a facetime/zoom call/Skype/whatever scheduled, and they cancel it, but still want to meet up in person at the pre-arranged time, DO NOT GO. Straight up say “no, we’ll reschedule; how about we Skype at the time we were meant to meet in person instead.” DO NOT MEET UP WITH SOMEONE IF YOU HAVENT VIDEO-CHATTED WITH THEM. DO NOT. If they dont want to Skype with you or keep agreeing to and then dropping out, then thats a fucking huge warning sign.
If they video chat with you and you’re satisfied that they are who they say they are and youre happy to go ahead with the meet, then agree to meet up in the middle of the day in a crowded place. A shopping mall, a busy cafe, etc. Somewhere with lots of people around. Do NOT go somewhere else with them. Do NOT get in their car or go somewhere with fewer people or etc. Hate to break it to you, but it is NOT outside of the realm of possibility that the person you’re meeting is bait to get you somewhere isolated where someone else can grab you. This is a thing that has happened. Easiest way to avoid it? Don’t go places alone with your online friend until you know for sure they’re not dodgy.
Also: TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHO YOU ARE GOING TO MEET. It doesn’t have to be a parent. Lord knows some of you kids don’t trust your parents, and I understand that. But tell SOMEONE. A friend, a sibling, a cousin; whatever. Tell them when you’re going, where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and what the other person’s online details are. If it turns out that theyre a normal human person who is just keen to meet their online friend, then great. But if they turn out to be some kind of creepy whackjob who kidnaps you or something, then at least there is someone out there who can give the police a start point about where you were and who you were meeting.
Online safety is so important and it really freaks me out to see how cavalier some of you kids are with your own safety. There are loads of freaks out there; don’t hand your information over to them in a handy little personal bio.
^^^^^^^
also if your online friend even possesses one iota of common sense, they will be fully understanding about every one of these safety precautions, and take them themselves, too.
if your online friend dismisses these concerns, then they don’t care about your personal safety, and they aren’t your friend, and you shouldn’t meet with them.
This isn’t related to my fandom, but please let me be Auntie Lurker a minute and say that the comments are correct. Please don’t be so cavalier with your personal information.
HOLY SHIT, IT WAS THE ORIGINAL ONE
MAKE A WISH
the first post ever on tumblr
I WAS EXPECTING IT TO BE A REMAKE OF SOME SORT HOLY FUCK
WHO THE FUCK KEEPS BRINGING THIS BACK
World Heritage Post
like actually though. i’m in AWE of the notecount.
i think about this a lot
The guy got his life and career destroyed by his divorce, cut him some slack.
he was also sexually assaulted by a man who could destroy his career
protect him
reblog if the man on the right is just as beautiful as the man on the left
people grow old? like, that’s a thing that happens? leave my guy alone.
This man deserves everything let him he happy
Ok… This is what happened to Fraser
-His wife ditched him and asked for 900k a year,
-He was sexually assaulted which he said kicked him into a deep depression
-He stated that the stunts from the 3rd Mummy movie completely destroyed his body and he was in and out of the hospital for 7 years even having to get surgery to repair his vocal cords.
-He apparently blamed himself for all this which only worsened his depression.
This man has literally been through hell this past decade so please lets cut him some slack and wish him the best
All this but also that picture on the right is a really bad paparazzi photo compared with a professional quality movie promo still. No one looks good when some random person snaps you on the street, regardless of who you are.
Compare with this image from the GQ article last February:
Proper lighting, professional setting, good angles etc.
The dude is 49 and has had a rough couple of decades, but he’s still lovely to look at, and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
Plus, now he’s in Doom Patrol, which makes me happy af.
And let’s not forget he was probably slightly to severely dehydrated to look that buff in he first photo. And I’m so pleased he got work again he seems like a good sort, and from the stealth pilot in Titans, Doom Patrol looks like it should be good.
It shouldn’t even matter what he’s been through. Body shaming of ANYONE is wrong.
ALL OF THIS
Plus
2019 Brendan is still slaying, so btfu
This post keeps getting better and I’m here for it
I love this whole thread
The last time I saw this it was only at the first ‘cut him some slack’ part and it just progressively gets better each time.
We support this Brendan Fraser in this home
I’ll say it again, the blue sweater photo in the OP was chosen because it was the most unflattering photo of him from that day. It’s a hatchet job! The same day:
I mean, look at this adorable face:
he looks like a really kind dad who would give good hugs and watch rubbish movies with me
Every time I see this it’s 1000 times better.
ALWAYS REBLOG to protect this man. He deserves it.
Must be protected at all costs.
Protect Brendan Fraser.
Writer Beware makes posts on which publishing houses to avoid at all costs, which words to look for and which words to watch out for in contracts, and several other things that will keep you in control and knowledgeable about the publishing process. I’d suggest reading through the website if you want to avoid getting ripped off, cheated, or scammed.
I’m just going to reblog this every so often because it’s a site that every writer needs to see.
how does one steal a Briefcase? I need season three of Umbrella Academy now. Please and thank you.
Also I have feelings about Klaus. I always have feelings about Klaus.
It is apparently a hot take, but Space Force was entertaining as hell.
As someone who has done a Security Studies grad program, the civilian-military dynamic was great, the military branches' dynamics were hysterical.
I loved all the characters and the international political aspects.... I thought it was wonderful. I can't wait for season two!

yknow the more jk rowlings world falls apart in america (race relations, international history, population, etc) the more i like to think that america just straight up doesnt have the statute of secrecy. european countries are falling over themselves hiding magic but come to georgia and theres a drunk redneck wizard wingardium leviosa-ing the shit out of a tractor to the delight of his drunk redneck muggle buddies in a walmart parking lot.
wizard on muggle violence is prevented by virtue of there being like a 50/50 chance that muggle is packing heat. muggle on wizard violence is prevented by knowing that wizard can give you boils spelling LIL BITCH on your forehead if you try to start something.
america is the weird redheaded stepchild of the magic world.
im not gonna stop reblogging this until this is the next Hot Fanon
english muggles come back to england and suspicious wizards meet them at the airport.
‘did you witness any strange or inexplicable acts while you were in america?’ they demand.
the english muggles just laugh in their dumb fucking faces. mate, it’s america.
what’s the difference between a werewolf and an animagus?
english wizard: *two hour lecture on legal history*
american wizard: six beers
@jumpingjacktrash congrats ive read hundreds of comments on this dumpster fire of a headcanon and yours is the best
thank you my patronus is a monster truck
I have reblogged this I don’t even fucking know how many times but I still completely lose it every time I see the words “My Patronus is a monster truck” because that is the most AMERICAN thing I’ve ever seen in 29 years of being ‘merican.
Variant: What with the International Statute of Secrecy being an international law, the American magical community suffered quite a bit at the hands of forcible attempts to make everyone conform to it, until anti-seclusionist magical forces got their hands on the sort of magics being used to hide the wizarding world from nonmagical society, and hid themselves and their communities from the magical government and its institutions.
That’s why Ilvermorny is “the only American wizarding school.” That’s why the American magical population feels like something the size of the British one pasted on something a couple orders of magnitude bigger. That’s why Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is so white. That’s why nonmagical people have a persistent quiet willingness to believe in magic just enough to allow for the possibility of its existence, and fill their stories with it, and readily interact with the idea of it. It’s an elaborate homegrown smokescreen to hide hundreds of integrated magical communities from the magical community that demands magical communities keep themselves secret.
The forces behind the International Statute of Secrecy made themselves such an absolute nuisance that some 95% of the magical population of America stole their hide-from-the-muggles spells and locked them out of knowledge of their existence.
The International Wizarding Community: “You are now forbidden to let any nonmagical people know you exist.”
Six Gazillion American Wizarding Communities: *Jedi mind trick hand motions* “Fuck you, we don’t exist. Nothing to see here.”
The International Wizarding Community: “Looks like the problem’s been solved, I guess. Pip pip cheerio.”
Six Gazillion American Wizarding Communities And Their Muggle Friends: “OK I’mma cast Engorgio on my tires and invent Monster Trucking, hold my beer.”
this is the best addition to this post to date, headcanon absolutely fucking accepted
Omg, can you imagine parseltongue in Texas?
“Listen here, you fucking rattler, I do not have time to hear about the differences between hares and rabbits.”
“But the hares are sssssso tasty…”
This is the magic world I want to live in. Can you imagine Florida man wizard?
@deadcatwithaflamethrower
*was giggling until the last one and abruptly stopped*
Look. No one wants to meet Florida Man Wizard. Okay? NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WANTS TO MEET THIS GUY. Nothing good comes from combining beer, a four-wheeler, crystal meth, a magic wand repaired with duct tape, and heat-delivered belligerence with a heaping of testosterone on top, okay??
just saw this on twitter, be careful folks
So I poked around and apparently this is a problem in all 50 states, especially around summer. Watch out for warm, slow moving water. Shallow water especially cause it’s already warmer. If there’s a lot of algae and it’s green and stuff, just stay out.
Warm weather and fertilizers and such make this worse, and apparently this is the worst year yet so please keep your pets safe, and yourselves as well!
We had it in a lake here last year and this is what it looks like
A few notes on this, for the doggos:
1. This is a form of bacteria, not algae. It can be blue-green, bright green, or red, and will look like foam, scum, or spilled paint. The dark green algae found at beaches is NOT the same thing and is not toxic. (Highlighted red because we call it blue-green)
2. It is found in shallow, still, bodies of water. It thrives on warm temperatures and fertilizer. So, be particularly careful if there is (as in this picture) a farm next to the lake or pond.
3. YES it is toxic to humans too. However it’s not as toxic and there is no known case of anyone dying. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, twitching, paralysis, cardiac or respiratory difficulty, liver failure, skin irritation, rashes, and gastrointestinal issues. Go to the ER if you feel sick after swimming in a lake.
4. Don’t let your dogs go in water that is cloudy, has algae blooms like that, or if you are at all unsure. If you do let your dogs swim, rinse them off with clean water if possible.
5. Do not use untreated lake water for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth. Boiling water does not help nor does simple treatment. So, basically just don’t use lake water. Do not let your dogs drink from the lake or fill their bowl from it. Bring water from home for your dog to drink, and offer your dog water before letting them near a lake so they won’t be thirsty.
6. Not all blooms are toxic. But you should still assume they are.
7. There is no antidote to the toxin. If your dog gets sick after swimming, take them to the vet immediately.
8. The downwind side of the lake is more likely to be affected.
If possible, take your dog to a river to play in the water not a lake.
Here’s an article from Pet Poison Helpline about it https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/blue-green-algae/
Having now binged the entirety of Outlander, I’ve decided the best character in the entire show is Lord John. No question. Genuinely kind, good-hearted, adorable, caring. Can I have a billion episodes with him in it, pretty please with sugar on top?
EVERYONE PLEASE BE SAFE
tw//shootings, racism, homophobia
I've gotten news about a right-wing neo-nazi organization called the "Proud Boys" is planning to go on a shooting on Saturday in Portland Oregon. They will be targetting anyone that "looks gay" or poc (especially hispanic people)
They plan to hold a rally for white supremacy, and they have told eachother to bring their guns an amo. This is a serious issue, please stay inside or in a safe place
Stay safe.

Do NOT Support ‘Adam’ When The Film Comes Out
I’ve talked about this before on this blog but this is the most disgustingly transphobic and lesbophobic narrative I’ve ever come across.
CWs: transphobia, homophobia, lesbophobia, corrective rape, voyeurism
The book Adam by Ariel Schrag is being turned into a movie which has been named as one of the most exciting LGBTQ films of the year. You should know before watching that the book is about a cis boy who pretends to be a trans man in order to persuade lesbians to sleep with him.
Yeah… you read that right.
Book plot summary:
boy spies on his lesbian sister having sex
boy decides to pretend to be a trans man (gross)
i.e. pretends to have a vagina because he thinks lesbians will want him then (he literally wants to fuck lesbians because he watched his lesbian sister have sex wtf)
he does get a lesbian to sleep with him, he straps his penis down using ace bandages and uses a strap on.
all the actual trans dudes we meet identify as lesbians this basically implies that trans men are not real men (lesbians i.e. women)
another time they have sex again only he uses his actual penis but tells her its a strap on. that’s literally rape, she didn’t consent to an actual penis.
he confesses that he’s been lying to her this whole time but she doesn’t break up with him. she even says its okay cause she fantasised about him being “a real boy"
that’s a direct quote. massive transphobia. huge. not to mention this is now the “lesbian is cured by dick trope” which is disgusting and that trope leads to real lesbians and bi women being raped to “fix” them.
he leaves new york, they’re long distance. they get in an argument and he calls her a slut and a whore among other things and then she dumps him
eventually they get back in touch and she has a new cis boyfriend so yep, she’s been “cured” woo she’s actually straight and he helped her realise that yay (massive sarcasm)
It is deeply deeply transphobic. To imply that our identities are just costumes for other people to put on erases who we are as people. More than that, to imply it is done to trick people into sex is a dangerous lie that literally gets us killed.
It is also deeply lesbophobic. To fuel this narrative that lesbians can be “fixed” by having sex with a man leads to real corrective rapes happening.
Here is a review of the book by a trans man. I have yet to find one by a lesbian but will edit this if I do.
This book gives out incredibly harmful notions about trans men and lesbians that are used to hurt them in real life. It’s so entrenched in the narrative that I don’t see how the film can possibly be any better.
I do not say any of this lightly. it’s very very rare for me to call out a piece of fiction or for me to decide that a story is unfixable. But this… there’s no excuse for the bigotry in this.
I’d like to tell people to boycott it but I can’t tell you what to do. So instead I’m going to ask that you share this because it being named as an exciting new LGBTQ film is going to make LGBTQ teens want to see it. And they should know beforehand how hurtful it could be. They should be able to arm themselves with that knowledge.
Don’t make queer kids see this film believing it will represent them only to be exposed to this hatred of their identities.
Please reblog.
Stranger Things, Season 3. General feelings and spoilers
Steve Harrington remains my favorite. And his friendships with Robin and Dustin give me life.
I love Robin so much. Barring the coming out at the end she reminds me of me SO much it is almost painful. And the way they handled her coming out and Steve’s reaction to it cemented my love for them both.
Was anyone else super excited when Suzie turned out to be real???
I’m annoyed with anyone who is mad at her for making Dustin sing. I’m with her--I NEVER would have believed the whole “saving the world” thing.
The only thing I liked about Hopper in the entire season was his message to El at the end. I didn’t have a problem with the way that he treated Mike. Space and boundaries are important, and El needed that separation from Mike to learn about herself. But the way he treated Joyce pissed me off so much. He was a total controlling jerk the entire season wrt her.
Alexei!!!! Как милый. Я любила его.
I loved Erica SO MUCH. THAT SASSY CHILD WAS ADORABLE.
Poor baby Will. He deserved better. In the show itself--Mike and Lucas treated him like crap. And with the writing. Kid is PHENOMENAL. And yet, the writers give him virtually nothing to do.
El and Max were precious and adorable. I need more of their bonding.
Billy’s background makes him more sympathetic but I still think he’s a terrible person and they didn’t redeem him enough to make me feel bad about him dying. I mostly felt bad for Max.
Nancy is goals. Always.
And finally, the heavy handed USSR v. America thing was heavy handed. I haven’t decided how much I liked that particular plot yet. I did enjoy trying to understand the Russian without subtitles. (Although, the kids figuring out the language/alphabet in like a day/two days required some MAJOR suspension of disbelief. MAJOR)
hey so uhhh here’s an important update on what’s apparently happening at the border, especially with the use of the old japanese internment camps
all i can say is i’m sickened by this mess, by the atrocities committed against innocent people. and now there will be no surveillance. no one will be able to see what happens to these people. the UN, the media, and any other human rights organizations cannot get into these facilities, either, in order to stop what’s happening. by the way, coast guard members were apparently aiding in this process as well. so now it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a military movement.
no one gets in. no one gets out.
so when are we going to call this what it is? it’s fascism. it’s genocide. and if we don’t stop it now, it’s going to be disastrous.
contact your senators, your representatives, anyone that’s in office that can get off their lazy ass and do something.
can y’all please reblog this i’m begging
