what it all comes down to is the belief that pregnancy is god's will, that babies are gods creations, and women's bodies are just the vessels he uses to make life. it's the belief that pregnancy is passive. anything the woman does to actively interfere with god's plan is her playing god and acting above her station.

but we know this is bullshit, that women's bodies make unconscious decisions regarding pregnancy, from conception to miscarriage, prioritizing her welfare above all else. if binge drinking during pregnancy is an active choice that creates a disabled child, materially so is continuing a pregnancy that you know will create a disabled child. there is no difference in outcome for the child who has to deal with the lifelong disability. and there's no material difference between miscarriage and abortion, either, except that one is a conscious choice. fundamentally, what people are uncomfortable with is women defying what they see as divine authority by exerting her own will over creation. but she's the only god in this scenario, because nobody's getting created without her.

I love how this list takes for granted that a parent will force their child into gender roles. Like that's normal, expected, acceptable behavior. Like the only problem is if a parent is forcing their child into the "wrong" set of roles.

Jesus fucking Christ, by this logic, every girl I went to elementary school with is trans. We all played with and had toys that were marketed as "for boys" and we all had "boys" clothes. We lived very rural, a significant portion of my friends grew up on farms and "girls clothes" just weren't designed for the farm life. So they mostly had unisex or "boys clothes"

We all played with the hot wheels, read the superhero books, and played "rough" at recess. Half the girls had shorter hair cuts. Most of us (the ones that had access to TV regularly) watched some form of "boys show" and we all played as various characters. Our whole class once got a lecture in third grade because we played "Autobots vs Decepticons" too roughly and a lot of us got muddy/clothes ripped at the knees or elbows/hair a mess/etc. the whole class was involved, boys and girls.

We didn't have a lot of students, so boys and girls played together a lot. We built snow forts in the winter, mini sticks as often as we were allowed, survivor/manhunt pretty much every recess, and traded books with each other often. Nobody told us we weren't girls. We were just kids.

Radblr has a giant western bias that they don't even try to work past. Obviously if the majority of this space is populated by western people then they will discuss those more. But I've seen far too many people paint all problems with their own brush without bothering to listen to other voices and it is frustrating. As an Indian woman, I relate far more with my Japanese friends than I do with almost any woman in the west and there's a reason for that. But if I talk about an issue affecting asian women on radblr, I am inundated with solutions that simply will not work India and the only other response is "then make it work" because of the assumption that the western way of life is inherently better.

There's also an issue with them caring more about how lives of the women in the west will be affected than about how women in the east are currently living. Far too many times I've been told to not criticize Indian men or culture because that could impact immigration or the lives of Indian women living in the west and I really hate that I'm being told basically to shut up because my problems being stuck in a misogynistic country are considered less important than a person who has the opportunity to leave. Absolutely no empathy whatsoever for anyone who isn't living in the "Global North". Just plain condescension.

A few years before her husband’s death, she published a cycle of prose poems titled “Groans”, under the pseudonym “A Tired Woman”.

Saw a post about how female massage therapists are refusing male clients and the horror stories of sexual abuse they face. So many of the comments also shared similar experiences, but the same question kept popping up.

It's hard to wrap my head around that after hearing those experiences, the "solution" is to pawn off these sexually violent men onto an "acceptable" target.

If a man is aggressive and ignores the consent of a woman who is working in a professional setting with help nearby, what will he do with a woman who can't say no? Why are these women expected to be the shock absorbent for male sexual violence?
