Stim list by type (toys/games)
Mostly for my own benefit, so I know where I have gaps:
Particle flow (smartphone app)
Spinning tops (with the silver/holographic designs, nice)
Gloworm (1991 shareware DOS game, also auditory/tactile/proprioceptive) (this is a really good stim game by the way)
I tried to make “ocean water” (water+food coloring, + oil, in a jar) but it went horribly wrong because I used olive oil which is way too opaque for this and I think my jar isn’t 100% oil-tight and I’m not really sure what to do with it now
Glow-in-the-dark anything
Shinies (crystals, jewelry, etc)
Animated stim .gifs, as long as they loop smoothly (I have one really good one!)
Rhythm games (Rock Band, Audiosurf, Stepmania) (also visual, depending on game/input also vocal/vestibular/proprioceptive)
Music videos (also visual)
Jaw harp (also tactile/proprioceptive)
Hell, just listening to music and maybe singing/stimming along (also vocal/vestibular, potentially)
Improvising on any melodic musical instrument (unfortunately I don’t have a convenient way to do this right now, the only instruments I currently own are the jaw harp and a drum kit, nothing really melodic)
Ringing a bell, poking a windchime, and so on
Silly putty (also visual/auditory (I like when it pops))
Magnet balls (also auditory) (there exist multicolored ones which would also be visual, sort of considering augmenting my plain ones but not sure if mixing them up that way would be good)
I could maybe use more options here
I used to have a worry stone which doubled as a comfort object so I am very upset that I lost it, it is not easily replaced
Incense (also visual, because smoke)
Essential oil (over a tealight (therefore also visual))
Scented candles (also visual)
Sweetgrass, look, this is basically all just setting various things on fire
This is all well and good but what I could really use would be a way to carry scent with me. Storing jewelry with my incense makes it nice and smelly but has the unfortunate side effect of provoking comment from my scent-hypersensitive father, so what would be best would be an airtight bottle necklace or something that smells only when opened.
I’ve seen those scented moh-doh things and am... intrigued, but not totally sure whether they’re worth buying or not, or whether I should try and make something similar-ish by hand
I used to have a collection of willow bark and that smelled really good but no longer
Primarily gustatory (this means taste, I had to just look that word up myself):
Taste is really tightly bound up with eating, at least in my mind, so I’m really reluctant to actively stim with it outside of meals/snacks/whatever
I’m also not totally sure where the difference is between stimming with taste and just... enjoying food
I have trouble enjoying food anyway, typically my problem is hypersensitivity to taste rather than hypo-
I figure it’s probably fine to just leave this sense unstimmed
I guess I could put carbonation in here although that’s more of a feeling than an actual taste; sparkling water is fine for outside of eating
Primarily vestibular/proprioceptive (I’m throwing these two together because I sometimes have trouble telling the difference, I mean I guess anything hand-eye coordination is proprioceptive but it seems like they go hand-in-hand):
Bouncy balls (also somewhat visual/auditory/tactile)
I would really, really like a swing but they’re not only really expensive, but also difficult and complicated to install and can’t necessarily be done just on my own, so I’m not sure if this is even a possibility
Swordfighting (used to be an option for me but alas no longer)
I could really probably use more here (especially as I could really use more exercise anyway and stimmy exercise is the best, and/or the only I can put up with)
I guess technically even walking would count here (also visual/olfactory when going outside???? I’m reaching here)
This is probably where toe-walking and raptor hands falls but that doesn’t change the fact that I could really use some more here
Ark’s lavender Krypto-bite (this is too hard for me, I think I need to get the same thing in a softer color)
I could possibly use more here too but it’s a good start at least
I really really want a weighted blanket, and I’ve looked into making them (or enlisting my brother’s help; he has a sewing machine), but just need to get the logistics sorted out and everything. Priority is on this though as far as expensive stim things go
I am woefully short here, this is why the weighted blanket is a priority
I do have an assortment of nice leather jackets, but wearing them indoors is against my rules. They are very good for outside, as long as the weather’s cold enough for it
In a similar vein, I considered whether a squeaze vest would be helpful but figured it’d be way too hot in summer anyway so probably not worth the expense, especially without having ever tried it out
Things I have no idea how to categorize:
Drawing/coloring (visual/tactile/proprioceptive?/maybe vestibular?)
Fanning (with handheld folding fan) (I guess this is tactile/vestibular? as well as slightly visual? Added bonus: helps against heat and sweating)
Painting (visual but also sort of meditative with the motions, so I guess that’s proprioceptive/vestibular)
Carving, look, let’s just stick all the arts-’n’-craftsy things in here
Arts and crafts are good stims is the point of this I guess
Just holding something in one’s hand (a stone or something) (is this... tactile? proprioceptive? pressure? I honestly do not know but it sure helps me fall asleep)
Just letting the mouthtongue make the mouthnoises at will
This isn’t even a toy/game thing I just need to give myself a reminder that verbal stimming is also good
