I always find it fascinating to see how people don't get that autism is a disability, one that often doesn't really logically make sense (at least to neurotypicals).
Like, yes I don't like spontaneous plan changes. No they don't bother me as much if I didn't have the day planned out/they are something I find fun/something I find comfort in. Yes, it will bother me if it's something I don't find fun. Yes, I still have lots of free hours on that "fully planned" day that I don't want a random thing I don't have planned in (I literally just planned a walk and staying in my room (safe space) doing nothing (I have planned it out that way because I need to recharge so I don't get meltdown/shut down bc school and all those "free" hours in my safe space prevent me from going insane)). Yes, even tho I have so many "free" hours, I do not want to do that. I don't feel like going to town to buy something because it is exhausting and I will need another two days to mentally recharge (additionally, school is kicking my ass and making more risks of burnouts/meltdowns/shutdowns).
And then when I do something that I have not planned into a safe/recharge day and I manage not to die somehow, then people say "well, it wasn't that bad now was it?", I may say yes and be happy, but I'm masking, even when I'm often not realizing it. Be prepared for a meltdown or shut down, or just generally locking myself in my room the next few days<3 (And then they complain I'm in my room).
And when I say, "it's my autism", I'm getting hit with "you're just making excuses". No Rebecca, I assure you, it is my MENTAL *DISABILITY* (!!) that I'll have for the rest of my life, that *I* have and I know how it affects me. And even then, I don't understand its logic. Because yes, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to go to town to buy something, BUT MY BRAIN HAS IT PLANNED AS IT IS AND HAS PLANNED IT IS A SAFE DAY, AND IT WILL BE LIKE THAT TO KEEP MYSELF FROM GETTING A MELTDOWN OR SHUTDOWN. I WILL NOT DRIVE TO TOWN.
It's a DISABILITY. It DISABLES me. MENTALLY.
