finally started watching Creature Commandos and the way The Bride’s backstory is framed is incredibly fascinating to me. we see it from her perspective, so we the viewer are left to infer that she was groomed by Victor Frankenstein while the show does not outright state that that is what he did, because her view of him is positive. we know that their relationship was fucked up, but they don’t outright state it because it wouldn’t make sense because we’re seeing it from the perspective of The Bride, who sees him as great.

what’s more worrying is people not realising this and getting mad. it really does help my thesis that media literacy is fucking dying that people saw the show and didn’t hear someone outright state ‘THE BRIDE WAS GROOMED BY VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN AND THAT IS BAD’ and so thought ‘they think that that relationship was okay!!1!1!’. with like any semblance of thinking for themselves gone people just assume the worst without actually thinking about the text.

side note: very frustrating seeing people pissed about how the Frankenstein stuff isn’t much like the original book. like no shit. it isn’t directly based off the original book, but off the DC character(s) based off the book. they aren’t obligated to adapt it faithfully when they aren’t even adapting that book.

anyway, show is pretty good so far. animation is top notch and the music choices are very creative, which i like. very fast paced which i understand isn’t for everyone, but i’m a fan. hard to say which character is my favourite; i’m a little biased towards Flag Sr. because i’m a sucker for revenge stories and complicated people who aren’t necessarily bad people but are just very flawed, but i really like Nina & The Bride.
