Snowball Slinging
Blizzard Brawl Frost Bite Rime Infusion
Took inspiration from Pokemon Ranger of all things. Basically, find an animal that might be helpful in the wild, get its help for an hour so long as it’s friendly enough.
Arcanatober Day 6– Verminous Swarm / Fool’s Gold
Today’s tarot card was the Ace of Coins / 1 of Pentacles / 1 of Rats, an interesting card from the minor arcana with a lot of different meanings depending on which deck you’re using. But I was able to leverage that variety of intent into not just one, but two very interesting spells that use player wealth in two different ways. One makes fake coins, while the other transforms coins into rats. useful? Maybe. Fun? Definitely.
Arcanatober Days 14 & 15– Lustrous Shell & Horrifying Pigments
So I missed a few days trying to recover from vaccination shots, but I’m back at it again with some more tarot-inspired content for the Halloween season. I’m pulling double duty each day until I get caught up, so today I’ve got two more– The Lovers and The Hanged Man, represented by Lustrous Shell and Horrifying Pigments, respectively
The first is a spell that wraps you in a beautiful, protective shell, but forces a steep cost for its casting and for when the shell finally breaks. The second acts as a cursed version of the classic marvelous pigments, creating living creatures instead of inanimate objects-- but ones imbued with a barely controlled, murderous rage. And maybe it’s better not to risk breaking the rules of the paints...
September Challenge– Days 9 & 10
More stuff inspired by Norse mythology (although it’s more Kaldheim also). I know that eagles summoned by a horn doesn’t actually appear in Norse mythology (we all know what story it is from) but something about the idea for the Horn of the Eagles just felt right.
September Challenge– Days 27, 28, & 29
Coming into the final few days of the challenge, and I am officially caught up here on tumblr! These are the last 3 days of the challenge, looking at some more of the digital-only MtG mechanics through an explicitly D&D-based lens. Definitely some fun and interesting ideas here, and a while not all of them are useful, I expect to explore some of the others a lot more.
September Challenge Days 24, 25, & 26
So for the last 7 days of this month’s challenge, I decided to stick with the same digital-only mechanics from Magic: the Gathering that I worked in the previous week. But instead of just converting MtG cards into D&D, I decided to go a step farther and make my own spells, enemies, and items using those same mechanics. Just to sort of play around with what it might look like to use the same abilities outside of an MtG-influenced context.
Gods Willing (1st Level, Abjuration)
Casting Time: 1 bonus action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 round
Classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger
You bestow a blessing of the gods on a creature, granting them both protection from the elements for a short time, as well as a glimpse into the future. Choose a willing creature that you can see within range, then choose a damage type from the following: acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, radiant, necrotic. The target gains resistance to damage of the chosen type until the end of your next turn. Then roll a d20, and record the number rolled. Once before the end of the target’s next short or long rest, when it rolls a d20 it can choose to replace the roll with the recorded one. The target can do so after seeing the roll, but before it knows the result.
