“Aye, laddie! Jus’ anotha’ drink!” Demo beckoned, raising and dropping the beer bottle in his hand. His lips were slurred, glossed with liquor as he swayed in his seat... you winced, as if he would fall right out of his chair like some toddler.
You were starting to worry with how much the Scotsman was drinking… sure, he drank a lot, but never this much in a row.
The team suffered a horrendous loss just a few hours ago, with broken morales and a desolate aura that was an unforgiving buzzkill. Demo handled it the best way he could, and that involved drinking. Copious amounts of drinking.
You frowned as the man offered up a bottle to you, your hand lifted and rested on his enclosed knuckle. And as you turned down the drink, your hand slipped where his once held the glass; taking it from him. "Demo, I think you should stop for tonight," you began, standing from your seat before approaching the sink in the rec room. And with a slurred singing coming from behind you, your shoulders faltered, worry washing over you. Why now? When all the other nights when he drank himself numb, why was tonight so different?
Even though Demo was drunk enough to kill a horse, he still noticed your halted movements—a glass lay idle in your still hand—hunched over the sink. "Aye—uh... you alright there, Y/n?" He asked, tripping over his own foot before catching himself briefly as he stood. You huffed a smile, but couldn't quite tell if it was forced or not.
"I'm alright, don't worry about me," you said, trying your best to dismiss the question as you moved over to the team's shared cabinets... you swiftly took a cup and started to fill it with water. The Scotsman hummed a low rumble, lips pursed and eyebrows furrowed... he was far from convinced.
As you filled the cup up, you turned around and handed the cup to him, droplets of water hanging on the walls of the drink. “Drink up, I'll get some ibuprofen for your head.” You huffed, smiling before trying to slip away to grab the reliever. As you reached up to the cabinet you went to grab the container, but Demo had beat you to it. You looked up at him, eyebrow furrowed. The Scotsman had gently pressed his hand into your shoulder, eyebrows furrowed to show a sort of worry.
“Laddie… I may be.. drunk, but I’m not blind.” He began, voice slurred with a slowness… yet concern lying deep within his voice. You bit your lip, trying to ignore the burn in your throat and the racing of your heart… he knew and saw right through you. You open your mouth for a moment, giving up before sighing… you leaned against the counter as Demo gently let his hand fall off your shoulder.
“You know I’m always making sure you’re doing alright, yeah?” You asked, shuffling your feet as Demo nodded, promptly ignoring the glass of water in his hand. You took that as your cue to continue. “Am I ever… too much? Like when I was pressing you to drink water; put down the drinks… is that bothersome?” The longer you talked the more Demo seemed to frown, and whenever he was upset, it was evident. Your brought your gaze upward, meeting his as he put the glass down… but with his drunken misstep, it had nearly dropped. You launched quickly over to push it back, water dousing your hand as you huffed. Demo took advantage of your hunched form as he linked his arm with yours, holding you side-by-side with his hand on your waist.
“Nae, laddie. If you were—hic—bothersome, I’d’ve told ye to sod off ages ago!" Impossibly, his accent got thicker the more he drank. You huffed, rubbing your arm as Demo looked back down at you after his run off. "Surely that’s not what’s got ye' all wound up, aye?"
Your breath lifted, your lips parted, but just when it was your cue to speak, your voice left you betrayed with silence. Demo grumbled. "It was a stupid question, don't worry about it." You tried to laugh it off, but Demo grumbled again in protest, his hand slipping from your waist to plant itself on your shoulder... whether for balance or comfort, the line blurred.
"Laddie, it's me job to worry! We're best mates, I’d be eh' downright bastard if I didn’t, aye?" He flashed you a smile, to which you warmly reciprocated. He squeezed your shoulder, to which you realized it was out of comfort now... your heart warmed. "Nothin' could chase ye off from me, mate. Ye know that." His voice was uncharacteristically soft, but was far from feigned.
You kicked your shoe into the ground shyly, a smile on your lips that no longer felt forced... to which the Demoman took his cue to lift the glass of water from the table beside them. "I like ye enough ta' drink yer cursed water... damn near poison, that." The Scotsman took a long swig, his nose scrunching as if he had taken a shot like any other man. You chuckled.
"Just need you to rest, is all. I know what water does to your damn liver at this point." You joked as Demo swung an arm over your shoulder, pulling you snug against him.
"Ehh, water is for the weak, I say!" Demo waved a hand dismissively, tossing the empty cup to the side like it personally offended him. "Give me a dram o’ somethin’ that’ll melt yer damn teeth, that’s what I need. Water’s for cows an’ bathin', and I don’t fancy doin either unless I’m forced! Next thing ye’ll have me eatin’ salad, wearin’ sunscreen, and sleepin’ eight hours like some posh wee prince. Pfft! Not bloody likely!”
He hiccupped after his incomprehensible, Scottish rambling... but despite it all, he was sober enough to say: "Still. I thanks'ye, mate."

The day was long; the arms of the clock rolled slow; the sun setting at a fatigued pace… slow enough that the brutal loss they had suffered just hours ago could hang in the air bitterly.
Dinner was quiet. Some were present, some were not... Sniper walked in late and left just as quickly. But as everyone eventually bid good night, you had noticed the Russian had not arrived at all. You had offered beforehand—to Medic—to check on Heavy and insist on him at least eating a little bit... but to no avail, despite their comradery.
A frown laid on your lips, everyone noticed it. The team's heart and soul was worried. Medic laid a hand on their shoulder, smiling small. "He'll eat, mein freund. He's as big as he is stubborn." He guffawed, but it was short-lived as the German rolled out of the room just as everyone else did... leaving you to your lonesome.
You tapped your foot, biting your lip—staring at the clock now. The least you could do was make him a sandwich.
And so you did.
You were stood right outside of Heavy's quarters, your hands wrapped around the plate as you lifted a hand, knocking against the wood as you awaited an answer. Nothing.
You were nervous. You and Heavy were pretty close, and some would go as far to say more than the bond him and the Medic shared... which was why you were so nervous.
Heavy was a relatively quiet man, and when he spoke, his words were short and chosen. He was smart beyond belief, his knowledge of Russian literature was not left unseen amongst the times spent together.
A deep sigh left your lips, kneeling down just outside his door to leave the plate for him to find on his own. But just as you leaned up, the door clicked and you looked up just as quickly.
Heavy looked down at you, his brows slightly furrowed, but his gaze softened when he realized it was you. "Y/n, it is late." His baritone voice was low and thick with fatigue—it was obvious he took a big hit from the loss as well.
You gulped, nodding. "Yeah. I just noticed that you weren't at dinner, so I decided to make you a sandwich." Heavy's silence worried you as anxiety buried in your throat. "If you wanted it. I mean- I was just waiting at dinner... so I thought I'd just bring it to you."
Heavy huffed, a smile so small you had hardly caught it. "Come in." He invited, and you meekly walked in after kneeling down to grab his food. The Russian scooped the sandwich from the plate as you slid past him, earning a chuckle from you. "Did not have to. Wasn't hungry, but appreciative." Heavy lied through his teeth, but you shrugged, smiling nervously as you stood awkwardly in his room. Something was on your mind, he could tell... he was a good people-reader.
"Wasn't much... just wanted to make sure you ate. We didn't see you a lot today." You noticed. Oh, how you always noticed. Heavy shifted on his feet, his gaze quick to move from the table beside his bed to you. You followed his, and saw that Sasha was laid bare on the coffee table... parts scattered for cleaning and repair. She was the one who took the hit. "Oh." Heavy nodded.
"She is good gun... but took many hits today." He spoke as if he mourned, even if she glistened in all her glory despite the scarring. "Sasha will be good tomorrow." He walked towards the gun as his large hand ran over the steel barrels that formed a pristine circle. You couldn't help but admire it yourself. "Something is wrong with Y/n, today. Battle hurt Y/n, too. I know."
You felt your throat tighten, jaw clenched as you shyly looked away. "No, nothing like that. You guys took the hit, I was..." you hesitated, "I'm just helping where I can, you know?" You flashed him a quick smile, though your eyes were devoid of light.
"I know." Heavy hummed lowly, his hand falling from the gun before he placed his hands on his hips like a stern mother. "Talk to Heavy. Good listener." The man sat on the end of his bed, patting beside him before he crossed his arms across his chest. You reluctantly sat beside him, hardly causing a dent compared to how much Heavy sunk the bed.
You fumbled with your hands. "I, er..." you stumbled, Heavy patiently waited for you. "I have had a question for a while, I guess." Heavy nodded as you continued, his gaze strong but comforting as he paid attention. You lifted your gaze to find his, and he smiled faintly, nodding.
You sighed before looking back down at your feet. "I've kinda worried about being too much." Heavy made a confused noise, you chuckled. "Like... me pestering everyone about making sure they ate; making sure they're hydrated and getting enough sleep. And when I didn't see you today, I—" you felt your voice get wobbly. You were tired.
"Y/n is very kind person." He began, budging in as you looked away, the burn in your throat too heavy to speak right now. The Russian continued. "You have big heart, you care more than Doktor." He gently jabbed, a low rumble of a chuckle deep in his chest as you huffed with a small smile. "Y/n matters too. Big man can take care of big heart. It's what friends do."
Your silence was not out of choice, but rather to keep your tears at bay and cries quiet. It hurt, to suppress it so much... to press it down at the expense of taking care of every one else... no matter how much you cared for every single on them. You couldn't hold it together tonight, not right now.
You slowly leaned over and rested your head on Heavy's shoulder, sniffling as the man wrapped an arm around you—pulling you close.
He let you cry for a little while, his hand gently rubbing your arm as you sniffled. "You do not pester. Archimedes pesters." He grumbled, you chuckled. "Dove do not know boundaries. Archimedes was in chest during surgery, do not like him." Though he wore a frown, he joked around to make you smile again. He missed it.
You began to ease up... your shoulders relaxed, and your cheeks started to dry. The weight pressing on your chest didn’t vanish, but it felt more manageable. You were starting to feel alright again.
You leaned up slightly, though you and Heavy were still hip-to-hip thanks to the dip in the mattress beneath his weight—he really was a big bear of a man. He looked down at you as his arm gently retracted, giving you space the only way he could.
"You get rest," he said warmly, voice like a blanket. "Heavy is okay."
Whether it was the comfort, the crying, or simply how late the night had gotten, exhaustion crept in. You rubbed your eyes. "I fix Sasha. Y/n goes to bed."
And as Heavy gently pieced Sasha back together—each motion practiced, reverent—it made your eyes grow heavy too. The night was soft and still, wrapped in quiet understanding. The connection between you felt stronger now, your heart just a little lighter.

The creak of a wrench rang through the workroom, along with the occasional clink of a bolt. Your eyes glanced over at the clock just above Engie's door, reading: 8:30 PM. You frowned, standing from your slumped position on his chair as you sat beside Engineer on the floor... the Texan looked up, the dispenser raised by large hooks of leather... the man lay on a creeper seat as he tinkered. He sent a quick smile before continuing to work. "What's up, sugarbug? Haven't you eaten dinner yet?" He chimed, his voice unwavering despite the obvious grumble of his stomach. The cups of coffee that climbed his desk as evidence enough that he had not eaten today.
"Dinner finished an hour or so ago... did you eat? I can get you food," you asked nicely, your head resting on your arms... which were laid on top of your knees. "I know you've been working hard today, you should get some rest." You asked, the Texan chuckling warmly.
"You should get some rest," he replied, rolling himself from under the dispenser. Engie grabbed the rag that was previously clipped to his overalls; he wiped his hands. "You don't have to worry about me, darl'." The southern man spoke softly before standing up, kicking the creeper seat away as he lowered the dispenser from its raised position. You frowned.
"You really should... I know you're used to staying up late, but I'd hate for you to not be able to work tomorrow... or just be tired." You had wished for the man to pause his work, but with his stubborn analysis of the dispenser, it was evident that he wasn't going to. You frowned as he began observing his clipboard.
"I'm used to all-nighters... get some rest." Engineer was quick to shut down your offer. He didn't mean for it to sound necessarily dismissive or rude... but he was so wrapped up in improving his work that his tone and rest was the least of his worries.
You let out a sigh, rubbing your eyes.
Engineer loosened up, his shoulders falling as his hand rested on his hip, a clipboard slid under his other arm. Engineer was biting his lip now, the unrelenting grumble of his stomach alarming the both of you. You snickered. The man looked at you. "Alright, alright. Who cooked tonight?" He asked, setting his once-held clipboard down as he leaned against his desk... his arms crossed as you beamed in your success.
"Scout cooked," you announced, watching as the man slumped in his stood position... wincing. "You won't believe what he made." You stood up, wiping down your pants as you suppressed a snicker at Engineer's dismay.
"Don't tell me it's his ma's 'secret' recipe?" Which consisted of garlic toast that he calls: Garlic Toast Bombs. They were buttery bread rolls filled with melty cheese, roasted garlic, and herbs, with the vision of pull-apart bread, but more often than not failed with a rip of cheese.
Scout always tries to make them the exact same but burns at least one every time, and when it's his turn to cook for the team, it was more often than not this specific dinner incessantly.
You nodded, your smile softening once Engineer leaned off the table and wiped his hands on his overalls. Once he neared closer to you, his hand lifted to squeeze your shoulder in a silent conclusion, before retreating.
The footfalls of his boots alarmed your uprise in worry, a sudden weight on your chest that was now heavy with guilt... never foreign to you. You swallowed hard, your gaze burning into his back as your body felt like reaching, fighting between calling after him or letting him walk away. You chose the former.
"Engi?" You called out, your voice wavering and unsure. The man turned to face you head first, his body soon following after to face you properly. You felt like you were suddenly put under spotlights.
"Yeah, sugarbug?" Engineer's voice was soft as if his words cradled you alone, the comfort would have felt nice if there wasn't a rise of guilt in your throat. You gulped, pushing it away.
"Can I ask you something?" This caught his attention, the attentive man he always was, noticed something off. His shoulders tensed slightly, alongside yours, his arms now crossed around his chest like a father. And to some extent, he was.
His silence aided you as a sign of permission to lead with your question, but the drawn quietness alerted Engineer nonetheless. "Y/n?"
"Do you find me annoying sometimes?" It tumbled out of your lips without permission, your heart picking up pace as if you were slowly realizing what it was you asked. You felt your cheeks grow hot, and your gaze evaded him with a quick shyness. Engineer's shoulders relaxed, while yours did nothing but tightened and raise. The man's lips pulled into a smile, tilting his head as he looked down at you... not with dismissal, but rather warmth.
You heard him approach you, to which you raised your head, lips parting to speak. "I'm sorry, I didn't- that was a weird question." Your words were on autopilot again, but Engineer wouldn't have it.
"Now, why would I think you’re annoyin’? If I did, I sure as hell wouldn’t be wantin’ you in my workshop every day, would I?" A laugh bubbled from him, warm and familiar as his hands wrapped around your shoulders. You felt a warm wetness flood your gaze before tears began to break down your cheeks. Engineer chuckled. "C'mere, sweet thing."
His arms found you immediately, to which you sank into his hold... arms wrapped around him with a comforting familiarity. You heart began to ease, but your tears did nothing but fall. You silently sniffled in his work clothes, his hand rubbing your back as he rested his chin on top of your head. The silent comfort of the two of you holding one another, worries slowly fading away as you felt your chest rise and fall, allowed the dreadful weight to dissipate.
Time passed, as it always did, and even then you wished it wouldn't. However, you were the first to tear away from the hug, your hand wiping your eyes as Engineer kept you close. His hand rubbed your arm, but he gave you your space. "Feelin' better?" Engineer hummed, voice soft as you nodded. "Now, what went and got you askin' that?" To which you chuckled.
"I always bug you about dinner and stuff, so I thought..." you began, choosing your words carefully, but Engineer already had the idea. "I thought maybe you were annoyed by me at that point. I didn't mean to push too hard." The southern man shook his head.
"Ain't no such thing." He hummed, his hands falling from you as you began to come back down. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, but he kept his gaze on you. "If it weren't for you, think Medic would have a hay-day with me, don'tcha' think?" You laughed.
"Yeah, he would." Finally, you began smiling again. Engineer smiled in return, his hand found your back as he patted.
"Let's get some dinner." Engineer hummed as the two of you walked together, the halls quiet except from your shared company, chatter lifted and easy.
Engineer cared, he always would. After all, you were family.

Sweet Dreams - Sniper x Reader

Mick was observant. It’s sort of his thing, being a sniper and all.
At the moment, he was observing you. You and the rest of the team, but, mostly you.
Everyone was back in the spawn room, the fight over. Your team had won this time, and as usual, you were overjoyed. You’d think it would get tiring after a while, but, you exploded with excitement every time. You grabbed Heavy, the teammate who happened to be next to you, and squealed with joy as you bounced on your heels.
“We did it! Oh my god, we did it! Heavy, you’re amazing!” you chirped, your big smile lighting up the room.
He offered you a calm but genuine smile as he looked down at you.
“Ah, it was nothing. Same thing Heavy always does,” he dismissed.
“Yeah, why should he get all da credit? I was pretty great, too, huh?” Scout butted in with a grin to match yours, showing off his buck teeth.
You laughed and let go of Heavy to turn to Scout. He opened his arms wide expectantly and you stepped into them easily. You put your arms around him and pat his back.
Sniper looked away, clenching his jaw. It’s just how you were with the team. So warm, and welcoming, and sweet. It didn’t help that you were gorgeous too. It was hard not to admire you, or to wish it was him you were hugging instead. He wasn’t sure why, but you weren’t always as touchy with him. It wasn’t obvious, but he saw the way you hesitated around him, how you found it hard to meet his eyes.
He couldn’t blame you, of course. He wasn’t the most welcoming mercenary here. He wasn’t hired for his charming personality, he got the job done. He chewed on the inside of his cheek as he looked at a wall, considering all the reasons why he’d make you uncomfortable. He refocused when he heard you approaching him, still wearing that stunning smile.
“Sniper! You, uh, you did a really good job too,” you said, clasping your hands in front of yourself.
He gave you a half-smile. You were still kind enough to compliment him, despite his demeanor. He nodded.
“Thanks mate. You did a fine job y’self,” he replied.
That seemed to make you happy. You glanced aside before meeting his eyes again, shuffling a little closer. You moved uncertainly, like you weren’t sure if you were allowed to be so close, but, you risked it anyway. You nudged his arm with yours, and his eyes flickered down to the contact.
“I was thinking the team could play poker tonight! Or, you know, any card game, it doesn’t really matter what. You should come too,” you said, your voice pitched up hopefully.
Mick let out a breath through his nose, tilting his head at you.
“Sure. Sounds fun.”
“I know right! Well, good! We’ll play after dinner. No sneaking off to your camper,” you teased, pointing a finger at him.
“Eh, no promises, mate,” he replied with a fond look in his eyes.
“You’d better not!”
And with that, you scampered off again, on your way to compliment more of your teammates, Mick guessed. Sure enough, he saw you catching up with Engineer and patting his back. He looked happy to see you, just like everyone was. Mick let out a sigh. He really shouldn’t be so fixated on you. He was a professional, keeping a professional relationship with you, just like the rest of his coworkers. Especially considering you were just being your normal bubbly self. This is downright embarrassing, he thought to himself with a scowl. He shook his head and pushed himself off the wall, walking back to the barracks with the rest of the team.
Dinner passed as it usually did, laughter interspersed in your loud conversations, elbows on the table, and the smell of good food in the air. For the usual shoddy quality of things provided by Mann Co., the food actually wasn’t bad. Though, that was probably influenced by the mercs who had some skill for cooking it.
The moment dinner ended, you shot up from your seat, hands on the table. “I’ll get the dishes tonight!” You volunteered, already scooping up the empty plates on the table.
“Aw, well that’s kind o’ you, pardner. You sure you got ‘em by yourself?” Engineer asked, standing up from his seat.
Mick’s eyes were locked on you. He found himself standing up too, already grabbing someone’s plate before he’d thought about it.
“I’ll help ya clean up,” he muttered.
You seemed surprised, your brows flicking up. You smiled and walked to the sink.
“Thanks, Sniper.”
“No problem,” he muttered, looking down as he gathered the last pieces of silverware and brought them to the sink beside you.
Bubbles of soap clung to your wrists as you washed the dishes. Wordlessly, you two had settled into a comfortable pattern. You washed, he dried, and the dishes were neatly set aside. You felt a subtle warmth amidst the quiet. The sounds of running water against the metal sink and plates clinking against the dishrack were barely there. You snuck glances at him, tracing the profile of his nose and the curve of his thin lips.
He was sneaking glances at you, too. How the hell did you always look so happy, even when you were just doing dishes? The way the sunlight hit your face made you look just heavenly.
Soon enough, the dishes were done, and you two caught up with the others in the game room. You walked in first, Mick following behind. It made it easier for him to look at you without having to worry about you looking back.
The others had already gotten comfortable around the table, leaving only a little room for the two of you to squeeze in. Spy looked up from his watch to acknowledge the two of you.
“Ah, good. We can finally begin,” he said with practiced nonchalance, picking up the deck of cards. He shuffled them elegantly as he looked around the table, the cards making a satisfying sound as they flipped together.
“So, we agreed upon poker?”
“Texas Hold’em,” Engineer said with a nod.
You nodded too and smiled as you sat down, Mick sitting down beside you. He tried not to focus on how your shoulder was almost touching his.
Spy dealt the cards to you all and laid back in his seat when he was finished. His cigarette hung from the side of his mouth as he picked up his own cards, eyeing them with a flat expression.
You picked up your cards and tried to do the same, holding them close to your chest, but you let a smile peek through. Whether it was because you had good cards or because you were just happy to be playing, Mick wasn’t sure, but he felt the corners of his lips turning up too. He looked down at his own cards and the group began to play.
The game was fun. Time passed as the competitive mercs rivaled with those that just wanted to cause chaos in the game (ahem, Demo). Mick noticed a few times, when you were laughing, that you leaned on him. He definitely didn’t mind. Maybe you liked him more than he thought. And then he would notice you nudging Medic, or reaching across the table to pat Soldier’s arm, and he remembered that’s just how you were. Nothing wrong with it, of course, you were lovely just how you were. You were a good friend to everyone. The more he noticed, though, the more he wished he wasn’t just a friend to you.
The game came to an end, and the group spread out to enjoy the rest of their evenings. You, who hadn’t won a single game of the night, were still chipper as you went to your room. You spent time relaxing on your own, and soon you decided it was time to go to bed. You got dressed in your pajamas, brushed your teeth, washed your face, did your whole routine before you clicked off your light and tucked yourself into bed.
Today was a good day, you thought with a smile. You closed your eyes and waited to fall asleep, breathing slowly. Your mind wandered. The fight you won, the way Mick had smiled when you talked with him, the ridiculous rivalry between Spy and Scout during the rounds of Poker, the times you had caught Mick looking your way. You turned in bed as you thought more of him, of what it might be like to sleep next to him, and suddenly your bed felt much emptier than before.
You tried to sleep for a long time, you really did, but it never came. Frustrated and losing hope, you opened your eyes and sat up to check the time. It had been well over an hour since you went to bed, and you felt no closer to sleep than before. You sighed. You felt alone. The good feelings of the day were slipping away from you. It didn’t make sense! Why the hell were you having trouble sleeping now?
Staying in bed wasn’t doing you any good anyway. You looked out your window, the blinds open to show the dark night outside. You got up and padded closer to it, searching until you spotted Mick’s camper van outside the base. You bit the inside of your cheek as you stared at it for a long moment. His lights were on out there. Maybe he wouldn’t mind your company…? You could really use his.
You knew sleeping beside someone else would help you, and any of your friends here probably would’ve obliged, but you knew you wanted Mick to be the one to oblige. Ironic, that you wanted the company of one of the most reclusive of you, but you couldn’t help it. Maybe it was part of the reason why you liked him. His quiet felt like peace.
You sighed and pulled on your slippers before you could talk yourself out of your idea.
Mick was reading a magazine, lounging on his bed, when he heard a knock on his camper door. He lifted his eyes, annoyance already worming into his mind. Who would be coming out to bug him this late? He made a low noise in the back of his throat as he set his magazine down and got up. He rubbed his eye, putting on a stern expression as he opened the door. The door let the light of his camper spill out into the night, illuminating you. His eyes widened.
Your eyes widened too. You’d been waiting anxiously outside for a few minutes before you worked up the courage to knock, and there was Mick, standing tall in front of you, in pajama pants and no shirt. Your eyes were drawn to the long scars on his chest before you remembered you shouldn’t stare. You cleared your throat and looked up at his eyes instead. It didn’t calm your nerves, the way he was looking at you with surprise.
“Hi!” You said, rubbing the back of your neck.
He replied with your name, spoken in a soft murmur. “What are you doin’ ‘ere?” he asked, brows twitching.
You felt sheepish, but forced yourself to answer anyway.
“Well, I, uh, couldn’t sleep. I saw you were still awake too, and, I thought… we could… hang out?” you pieced together awkwardly.
He blinked, letting his eyes wander over you for a moment. Even your pajamas were adorable to him. Maybe you were the most lovely person in the world, or maybe he was looking through rose-colored glasses, but either way he was so done for. He snapped his eyes back up to yours. He’d probably been staring at you for too long now.
“Oh, uh, sure mate. You c’n come in.” He stepped aside and held the door open for you.
You stepped inside, glad to be shielded from the chill air as he gently shut the door behind you. Looking around, the camper was messy, but cozy. The walls were cream with a few rusty orange accents, and you gravitated towards a table that had booth seats on either side of it. You looked to Mick, silently asking if you could sit, and he nodded.
“So… couldn’t sleep, eh? Somethin’ getting at you?” He asked, crossing his arms as he leaned against a wall. He was holding his breath now that you were here, but he couldn’t help it. Jeez, he would have cleaned up a little if he knew you would see it.
You chuckled and shrugged as you sat down, scooting into the booth like you were at a café.
“I really tried to sleep, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I’m not depressed or anything, but… I dunno. Just wasn’t happening. What about you? Why’re you still up?” You questioned, looking up at him.
He smiled, though he felt like a fool for it. He glanced down and took a moment to reply.
“I usually stay up a bit late. The night is… nice. Quiet. Good time to do a bit of reading. Not that I’m an intellectual or anthin’.”
“Huh. It’s a good habit to have,” you said with a nod. “What do you read?” He could’ve sworn you actually perked up a bit, like you were invested in his answer.
“Heh, nature magazines, if I’m being honest. I like the wildlife stuff, and the photography. And I read the occasional letter me parents send me. Usually they call, but, sometimes me mum’ll send me a postcard,” He said, his voice low and soft. He got the sense maybe he overshared right after he said it, but he was soon relieved by your reaction.
“Aww! Your mom sends you postcards? That’s so sweet. Surprised she knows the address for this place. Thought it was confidential.”
“Ehhh, technically speaking, it is. She don’t know exactly where we are, but, Miss Pauling delivers us the mail we get.”
“Ohhhh. I didn’t know that! Why haven’t I been getting mail?” You huffed, making Mick chuckle.
“Dunno, mate. Maybe it got lost. You could ask Pauling to send a letter for ya.”
“Hmm. Maybe tomorrow,” You muttered, propping up your head on your hand.
He looked at you for a few seconds. He was trying to think of what to say next as he noticed the way your hair perfectly framed your face.
“D’ya want a cup o’ coffee?” He asked quietly, uncrossing his arms and already starting toward his mini-kitchen.
“Oh, no thank you,” you said, holding out a hand to stop him in his tracks. “I’m still trying to sleep. Don’t wanna ruin my chances.”
“Ah, right. Sorry. Just offered without thinkin’. S’what I always drink,” Mick chuckled, shaking his head.
You rolled your lips between your teeth, breathing in before you asked your next question. “Um, by the way… You can totally say no to this, I know it’s… a weird request, maybe,” you prefaced, gesturing with your hands as if it would better help you explain. “But, uh… would it be okay if… I maybe slept over for tonight? I don’t mean to be weird! I just- I sleep better next to someone else.”
Well, you said it. It was out there now. Hanging in the air, waiting for a reply. Mick was still as a statue, his previously tired eyes now wide awake. He blinked.
“…you wanna sleep next to me?” He asked, brows raising. You couldn’t gauge whether that reaction was positive or negative by his tone.
Mick was starstruck. It didn’t show on his face, but fireworks were going off in his chest, and it almost felt painful how quickly his heart swelled up with hope.
“Yeah. I know, kind of strange, but…” you muttered, scratching the back of your head. “Uh… what do you think?”
“Well, why me? Uh, not that I’m complaining,” he sputtered, fixing his posture as he walked closer to the booth. “But… I can’t imagine anyone in there would have turned you down. You walked all the way out here, in your slippers an’ all.”
You looked down at the table. Being confronted with your own obvious feelings was embarrassing. You swallowed dryly and stretched the hem of your shirt between your hands.
“Yeah…! I wanted your company specifically, because I think you’re… a very calming person to be around.” You sighed, dancing around the words you really wanted to say. But saying ‘I like you’ just felt too childish for your grown age.
“I mean… I see you differently than I see the rest of the team,” you said, voice nearly a whisper as you dared to look up at him again. “In a good way.”
You heard a sharp inhale from Mick and saw his cheek dimple as he bit the inside of it. He was frozen for a moment just looking back at you.
He was reeling. His mind flickered through all the moments he had thought you disliked him. Awkwardly hovering around him instead of just touching him like the others. Quick glances, avoiding his gaze. That way you still smiled brightly at him, invited him to tag along, the way you laughed at his jokes. This whole time, you weren’t uncomfortable around him. You liked him.
“Wow. I feel like a fuckin’ idiot right about now,” he said, a big smile cracking his façade. He let out a raspy laugh and pinched the bridge of his nose.
You let out a nervous chuckle too, eyes glued to him.
“You liked me all this time. I thought… Well, nevermind what I thought. I see you differently too. In a good way,” he said.
“You do?” You asked, eyes lighting up. Mick almost laughed again.
“You kiddin’ me? O’course I do. You’re a bloody rainbow compared t’ everyone else here. Nice to everyone. But yer not just nice, you… really mean it.”
Warmth spread from your face to your heart, his compliments wrapping around you like a blanket.
“Thank you! Wow, I had no idea you felt that way,” you sputtered, tugging at the collar of your pajama shirt.
“Now you know,” he muttered, tilting his head as he peered down at you. His tongue poked the inside of his cheek. “…to answer yer question… you can sleep over here. If you want.”
Your bright smile lit up the room, sitting up straighter at his reply. Your face still felt warm, but you were too pleased to feel embarrassed.
“Yay! I mean, are you sure? You don’t have to say yes just because-“
“I said yes already, come on then,” he grumbled with a teasing smile.
He tapped your shoulder with the back of his hand and walked past the booth towards the back of the camper, expecting you to follow. You scooted out of the booth in a hurry and jogged after him, peeking around him to look at his bed. It was tall enough for him, but a bit skinny. Not that you would complain about that. With a flick of the light switch, the camper was dark again.
You looked up at him to see him already looking at you, his expression hesitant but warm. It was a bit harder to see him, but his lean face was illuminated by the soft blue moonlight. He glanced away and sat down first, then laid back with a slight groan. He scooted up against the wall to give you more room, looking up at you. You saw something different in his eyes when he looked at you now. Some joy, like admiration. Had he always looked at you like that?
You climbed into bed, unable to hide how excited you were. You laid down, barely keeping a few inches of space between the two of you. You met his gaze again and felt impossibly hotter. You hovered your hand over his arm, unsure if cuddling was exactly what he had in mind. He smirked as he looked at you, eyes crinkling up at the edges.
“What? You nervous, mate?” He teased in a soft voice, putting his hands on your shoulders.
You let out a weak chuckle, finally letting your hand settle on his waist. You felt him tense a little, then relax.
“Yeah. Sorry- I wasn’t… sure what was okay, or…”
“Don’t be nervous,” he assured you. “Just get comfortable. Don’t have to be so far away. You came over for a cuddle, didn’t ya?”
You smiled again, heart squeezing in your chest. You moved closer, your arms sliding around his bare torso. He welcomed your touch, his long arms wrapping around you in turn and pulling you close. The space between you disappeared, your head now rested on his chest. You closed your eyes and took notice of the rise and fall of his chest with each breath, and the feeling of his chest hair against your cheek.
Unbeknownst to you, Mick was looking down at you as you snuggled up to him, utterly lovesick. You looked so happy just to be near him. He rubbed your back slowly, thoughtfully.
“Never thought I’d be able to comfort anyone much. ‘Specially not you. But I’m glad I can help,” he muttered, his hand moving up to brush against the hair at the nape of your neck. A shiver went up your spine at the light touch. “Is this okay?” He asked.
You nodded quickly, holding him tighter. You inched your leg forward, slipping it between his.
“Yeah! Yeah, it is,” you whispered. “It’s more than okay. It’s like… really nice.”
He smiled fully at your sweet reply. He rested his chin on your head and let his eyes close too, his hand cradling your head like you were precious.
“Good. You feelin’ better about gettin’ ta sleep?”
“Mhmm. I think so… are you comfortable?” You asked.
He nodded without needing to think about it.
“Yeah, ‘course I am. Hmph. You’re a sweetheart, ain’t you?”
He chuckled when you curled up and squeezed him instead of replying.
“Aw, you are bloody adorable.”
He pet your hair for a moment, considering something. He slowly opened his eyes again to look down at the top of your head. He cradled your head, then leaned down to press a quiet kiss to your crown. Your eyes shot open, and you let out a huff that was almost a laugh. Mick found himself smiling despite the nervous anticipation he felt.
“Was that a kiss?” You asked, already knowing the answer.
“Was it alright?” He asked in return.
You lifted your head, eyes open again but already heavy with sleep. You reached up to cup Mick’s cheek in your hand, thumb running over the roughness there. You leaned forward and pressed a chaste kiss to his lips, eyes gently falling shut. You felt him take a sharp breath in and go tense against you. If your eyes were open, you’d see how nervous his own were.
You were not only fine with his kiss, but returned it tenfold, in his eyes. He smiled against you, tilting his head as he kissed you back. He pulled away shortly after and gazed at you, eyes just as tired and infatuated as yours. A lazy smile graced his lips.
“You’d better get some sleep, darlin'.”
“Thanks for letting me stay over, Sniper,” you murmured, closing your eyes again as you snuggled up to him.
“Don’t mention it…Jus’ call me Mick, eh?”
“Oh. Sure, Mick," you said, heart still warm in your chest. "Thank you. Goodnight.”

You'd rather not make a big deal of it being your birthday, even though it is you were taught that birthdays aren't a big deal and your family never really did them.
You kind of wish someone would care but you feel guilty about that so you choose not to tell anyone about it
The only one of these who actually knows it's your birthday is Miss Pauling, who’s seen your personnel files
Miss Pauling
She knows it's your birthday, and instead of ignoring it she decides to at least discreetly make it a good day for you
She arrives on base for a routine inspection, clipboard in hand, but once she's done with the main thing, instead of leaving, she comes to your room
"I saw that it's your birthday today. I don't know if you celebrate, or anything, but, uh, I thought you'd like a gift. Maybe."
She hands you a box, inside are some candy bars and a plush of a bear
"I know it's not exactly the nicest thing, and I know it's kinda... stereotypical... but, y'know, I thought you'd like something. So, happy birthday. From me.” She’s really shy about it, you get the feeling she didn’t--probably still doesn’t--really get to celebrate birthdays either.
She offers you a ride on her motorbike, something nice, on the open road--away from this base for a little while. You accept, taking a seat behind her, enjoying the open air--though it is pretty hot out. You guys talk, just enjoying the time.
She smiles at you as you get back. “Happy birthday. You deserve it.”
You thank her and even give her a hug. It’s nice that you got this for once.
Scout
He has no idea whatsoever that it’s your birthday. He’s interacting with you like usual, teasing you, just hanging out. You’re happy as you talk that day; he’s always good at making you laugh and smile.
At some point he notices that you’re a little down, as much as you may try to hide it, he can tell. You’re his friend, and even though he might act like he doesn’t care sometimes, you know he does. A lot.
You tell yourself you don’t want anything on your birthday, that it’s easier if no one knows, but secretly, you do.
“Hey, what’s up? C’mon, ya know I can tell when something’s wrong.”
You tell him it’s nothing.
“You sure? Really? You’re kinda… I dunno, sadder than usual.” After he asks a few times, you finally come out and tell him. You don’t say much. Just “It’s my birthday.”
“No kiddin’? Well, why didn’t ya tell me?” He comes off pretty strong. You feel kind of apologetic for mentioning it, and look away from him. “Aw, hey. Y’know what--it don’t matter. I’m gonna throw you a party like you ain’t never seen, believe me.”
You try to tell him you don’t want a party--well, you do. Maybe. No you don’t. Well, sure. But not a big one. He’s really sweet and enthusiastic about it. “Someone like you deserves a big birthday--but if you don’t want it, dat’s okay. Ya know, we could just hang out, or somethin’. You n’ me, yeah?”
You tell him you’d like that a lot. You both find a quiet spot in the base where you can just talk. He messes around, too, and pops in a Tom Jones record.
He’s a little shy, a little embarrassed, but he even sings happy birthday to you. He just seems glad no one can hear him. He doesn’t have a gift handy for you, but he ends up scribbling you a quick doodle of him telling you happy birthday. It’s misspelt, but the drawing is cute, and you keep it. “I hope ya had a good day. I’m just sorry I didn’t know sooner.” You tell him that it wasn’t his fault, how could he have known?
After all is done, he gives you an awkward hug. You smile and return it.
Soldier
He’s a little crazy so he’s just hanging around base, today he had the idea to strip and cover himself in honey, so everyone has had to convince him to please not do that, and now he’s just moping around, muttering about how anti patriotic this all is.
You sit next to him and mope as well. Unlike him, no one knows the reason you’re moping. To anyone else’s point of view, you’re just comforting him--for whatever weird reason. But he sees that you’re just as sad as him.
“What’s wrong, maggot? Is there someone who needs to see my fists meet their face?”
You tell him no, no one did anything. You’re a little intimidated by him, and you don’t see much reason to tell him anyways. But it’s nice sitting with a friend.
“If it’s not a person, then… it must be an object! Give it to me and I will destroy it immediately.” He’s being as sweet as he can, you smile and shake your head.
You sit there for a bit, smiling as you watch the other mercs come and go. Today isn’t a bad day, just a little sad. Later, you plan to find some kind of sweet treat to eat alone.
Soldier stands up, at attention, and points at you. “MAGGOT, AS YOUR SUPERIOR AND SENIOR, I ORDER YOU TO TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG!”
With a sad smile and a chuckle you finally tell him.
“Your birthday?” Soldier seems genuinely surprised. He places a hand on his chin and thinks. “We cannot go without celebrating! This is momentous!”
Although you try to protest, he turns to the base, stating to every other merc, “LISTEN UP! IT IS Y/N’S BIRTHDAY AND WE WILL CELEBRATE!”
He makes it his personal mission to decorate for a party that very evening, even gets a cake and everything. He makes every other merc sing happy birthday with him. Maybe this isn’t so bad.
You give him a big hug, and he is surprised at first, but proceeds to give a gentle laugh and hug back.
Pyro
You see Pyro colouring with crayons and coloured pencils on their break, and you sit by them. You don’t really understand what they’re saying a lot of the time, but you enjoy hanging out with them. It’s a long period of silence before you join them in colouring. Regardless of your artistic skills, they’re impressed and encourage you, and are very happy when you show them what you’ve been working on.
After a little while you get kind of bored and sad. You’ve tried to enjoy this day but it’s another bittersweet birthday. You’re happy to hang out with Pyro though, even though they don’t know what day it is.
Pyro notices that you’ve stopped colouring with them, and that you’re looking at the ground instead, messing with the cracks in the floor.
“Huddah hrmmf mmmrph?” You don’t understand what they’re saying exactly, but you smile at them. They seem to be asking what’s wrong, why you stopped, why you seem so sad.
You hesitate for a moment before finally confessing. They seem to mostly understand what you mean, and they lean back, thinking.
After a few seconds, they stand up and help pull you off the floor. They point to their room, and you follow them. It’s an odd combination of scorch marks, colourful drawings, weapons, and art supplies. They lead you to a wardrobe and pull out a box.
Surprisingly, you can see that it's fully wrapped. Did they somehow know it was your birthday? Do they keep these gifts on hand for the mercs?
You won’t get an answer, but they excitedly push it out and offer it to you. “Huddah hmmph!” They sound almost like they are smiling behind the mask. You take the box and open it. It’s got crayons, pencils, and… wow, that’s a drawing of you and them.
You smile, almost ready to tear up, and thank them. You give them a hug, and you notice that they’re hugging you back even harder. Maybe they don’t really understand, but this is sweet.

Scout:
"Move ova'!" Scout pushed his way onto the already overcrowded couch, disregarding the protests of the other mercs. Tonight was movie night at the red base, and he would be damned if he couldn’t use this as a moment to try and get closer to you. "Hiya toots," he flirted, stretching his right arm out to rest around your shoulders. "Hi Jeremy." You smiled and rolled your eyes playfully. Scout had been crushing on you for a while, every chaste touch and every flirty interaction had culminated in something that far outweighed any feelings he once had for Pauling. The movie had long since started, and mercs were continuing to file into the living room, squishing themselves onto the lounge or plotting themselves onto the floor. He couldn't remember the genre let alone the name of the film, all Scout could hear was the sound of his own heartbeat and the feeling of uncomfortable itchiness in his throat as you cuddled into his side. An hour in and your eyes began to grow heavy, breathing slowing in tandem. Jeremy glanced down at you, his palms moist and his face flushed as he wrapped his arm around your waist, attempting to focus on the movie and not how cute you looked like that. He was definitely asking you out in the morning.
Soldier:
Everyone felt hot, sweaty, and exhausted as they slugged themselves back to the blu base. The mood hung heavy, no one seemed interested in Soldier’s usual antics - all except you, of course. You feigned a smile as he ranted about team ethic and the "American spirit", some mercs scowled at the man and others mumbled profanities and sauntered off. A light breeze came in through the afternoon air, Soldier sighed in the smell of Spring. “Hey, we should sit out here for a bit,” you squeezed Jane’s arm, pulling him towards one of the wooden benches placed just outside of the entrance to base. He felt his heart swell, not only did you want to hang out with him, but any touch from you made him absolutely crazy. “AFFIRMATIVE CUPCAKE,” Soldier responded, allowing you to lead the way. You audibly sighed as you sat down, just looking at you it was obvious you were exhausted. “Better luck next time, huh?” you joked, Soldier chuckled and stared out at the afternoon sky. You sat there together for a while, until he felt a sudden, yet small pressure on his shoulder. You had fallen asleep on him, and with anyone else he would have woken them up immediately, but you looked so peaceful and….pretty in a way? Soldier glued his eyes to the afternoon sky, he could think about these feelings later, better to let you rest after a long day.
Pyro:
Being friends with Pyro was exhausting in of itself, and they knew this. But they couldn't help wanting to invite you along to their errands, you were their best friend and any time spent with you was time spent well. By the end of the day, you were both well past exhausted. "You're lucky I like you so much, otherwise I would never go on an errand run with you again." You teased, slinging an arm around their shoulders as you both trotted up the stairs to the base entrance. Pyro flushed under their mask, muffling out a "Yeah, yeah whatever, you love me." and rolling their eyes. You chuckled, opening the door to base and dragging yourselves to the living room. Pyro plopped onto the couch, sinking into the plush cushions and removing their mask. They knew the rest of the team wouldn't be back for a while, and the heat of the day had done a number to both of you. You took your seat next to them, sitting back and resting your feet on the coffee table in front of you. "Wanna watch tv?" They asked, grabbing the remote. "Yeah whatevs" You responded, yawning and stretching your arms over your head. An hour of mindless game shows, and you had passed out, head falling on their shoulder. Pyro chuckled, turning the tv down and dimming the lights. They pecked your forehead, and cuddled into you, making themself comfortable.
Demoman:
Demo certainly didn’t take you as a drinker, let alone a party animal like himself! You go out for a couple drinks together after a team winning streak and manage to arrive back to base blasted out of your minds, clinging onto one another for dear life in your drunken stupor. “IIIIII LOOVE YOU DEMOOO!!!!” You proclaimed, enveloping your arms around the Scott’s neck. Grinning and face burning, he wrapped his arms around your waist, attempting to gently guide you back to your bedroom. His ongoing feelings for you had always been pushed down, and despite knowing that you were probably just super wasted and wouldn’t remember it in the morning, he didn’t want to waste possibly his only chance to spill at least some of his feelings to you. “Aye, i looove you too y/nnnn” Tavish slurred, poking your face in various places. You laughed and kissed the man on the cheek, “DAAATE ME TAAVAVVVV!!” You lamented, cupping his face in your hands. The sudden movement causing you both to topple over onto the floor of your room. Demo sat up and leant against the foot of your bed, you, laughing hysterically, joined him. Resting your head on his shoulder, your laughter dribbled off to giggles and you listened to his thundering heartbeat. "I really do like you, Tav.." You whispered, peering down at the floor, feeling a wave of tiredness wash over you. You nuzzled into his shoulder, and drifted off, leaving a beet faced Demo staring down at you.
Heavy:
Visiting Heavy's home during the middle of a Russian winter was a less than ideal scenario, but the team had wanted to see what a "real winter" was like, and now here you were trudging 2 foot deep in snow towards the wooden lodge. Heavy opened the door to the sight of 9 freezing mercs, and scoffed. "Inside." He commanded. You furrowed your brows and complied, shivering from the contrast of hot air. "Drink." A mug of hot coco was given to you by the gentle giant. "T-thanks.." You mumbled, walking over to the fireplace and sitting cross legged in front of it. Most of the mercs were directed to their rooms, some lounged around in the kitchen or dining area, having quiet conversations. Heavy sat next to you, mug in hand. This was already too close to comfort for you, and he could tell. Whilst he had been crushing on you for a while, he was oblivious to whether you returned those feelings - believing that you were scared of him. But right now your tired eyes and pink cheeks said otherwise, seeking some form of comfort from the man. "Come, I will hold you to warm you up." Mikhail gave you no room for choice, and you were still freezing. You complied and scooted closer to Heavy, resting your head on his chest as he wrapped an arm around you. In an instant, you had fallen asleep, curled up on Heavy, the body heat shared between the two of you giving more warmth than the blazing heat permeating from the fireplace in front of you.
Engineer:
Even after hours of battling, the match on 2fort had yet to finish. Scouts from both sides rushing for the briefcase, only to instantly die from sentry guns, Spies in disguise, or a Heavy hopped up on ubercharge. You were ready to drop, the respawn machine healing your wounds but doing nothing for your exhaustion. You knew that Dell was stationed in the intelligence room, sentry setup so anyone who trespassed would be delt with. The perfect place to catch a few z's before heading back out to the fight. "Yo Dell, can I maybe rest down here for a bit?" You implored, watching the man upgrade a dispenser. "Sure darlin'," He smiled earnestly, you gave him a look of relief. Curling up under the desk, you attempted to sleep, but the lack of cushioning made it an impossible task. Dell noticed, and gave the dispenser one last 'clonk' with his spanner before accompanying you under the table. "Here," He scootched up next to you, "You can rest on me if you'd like." You looked up at him, his cheeks felt hot. "Wow - yeah, thanks Dell." Blood rushed to your face as you situated your head on his shoulder. "Anytime, pumpkin." He muttered. Sleep was instantaneous, Engie held his breath until he was sure you were out cold, letting out a deep sigh and smiling down at the floor. How did he get so lucky?
Medic:
Medic suffered long nights in the infirmary, and during those nights you would often visit him to keep him company. It was routine - you would saunter in around 9pm, sitting on the edge of the operating table, your feet barely touching the floor, chin resting in the palms of your hands as he tinkered away. He reveled in it - he had grown attached to this schedule, and by extension, you. Your mere presence made him giddy, seeing your sweet smile before he put you under anesthetics made his heart swell. The best nights were the ones where you would let him operate on you, he would be able to enact out his writings, throwing things at the wall and seeing what stuck. Then, you'd either walk out around 3am, or respawn from a botched surgery, and go to bed. Tonight, however, you had proven to be far too tired for a surgery, let alone a full night of softly rambling to Ludwig about whatever crossed your mind. You had pulled up the operating chair and sat next to him, eyes flickering between him and the notes he had been writing in his medical book, slowly drifting off. Your head fell on his shoulder, fast asleep. Medic peered down at you from over his glasses, breathing a lovestruck sigh. Maybe these were the best nights.
Sniper:
The middle of the day in Sniper's van was akin to hell. The air smelt stale, windows wide open, no aircon, just the both of you sweaty, sticky, and half clothed. This would usually have embarrassed the two of you, but the 40 degree weather and sound of the other mercs outside attempting to cool off using a singular hose had you both choosing to stay indoors, not wanting to get involved in the argument currently taking place between Demo and Soldier. Heat fogged your brain, you felt so tired, your body sweat all of your energy out. "Fuck, why couldn't you get an AC installed?" You groaned, lazily shutting your eyes and fanning your face with your hand. Sniper shrugged, and despite not being able to see the motion, you scoffed. "Dunno," Mick responded nonchalantly. He trailed off, seemingly succumbing to the same heat induced exhaustion you were fighting with. You opened your eyes slightly, confirming your suspicions that Sniper had also closed his. Arms crossed, head pointing downwards, God, he looked so comfortable. Mick could tell what you were thinking, and he wanted nothing more than to cuddle up to you, but he couldn't bring himself to move. You were close like that, almost reading one another's minds at times. So you made the first step, sliding over to him and laying your head on his shoulder. Sniper was uncomfortably hot, yet refusing to move an inch as you slept on him. Eventually, he couldn't help but nod off alongside you.
Spy:
The drive back from your mission was excruciating. Sniper and Medic sat in the driver and passenger seats respectively, the only sound was the droning radio hosts on the van's radio. You had failed, and you knew Spy was seething from the loss. You, however, were so tired you couldn't even stand. Partially from the bullet lodged in your calf, partially from the athlete level running you had to do in order to get back to the van after the high elected government official had caught you in the act attempting to steal nuclear launch codes. Spy was the one to snatch the codes, but you had still been seen, and that in of itself was a failure. Incidentally, Spy had been the one to offer you aid once you were safely in the van. Your arm draped around his shoulders, wincing at the sharp pains running up your leg. As much as he tried to hate you, he just....couldn't. You were too sweet, too kind. So, he opted instead to blame Medic and Sniper for being unable to damage control the situation better. You were slipping in and out of consciousness, head slowly rocking towards Spy's shoulder, and then awkwardly leaning back towards the wall of the vehicle. "Rest your head on me, mon cher. Otherwise you are going to break your nose." He grunted. In an instant you had passed out on him, breathing in the strong scent of cigarettes and expensive cologne. He sighed a breath of relief, enjoying your gentle pressure on his side. Smitten was an understatement.
This man loves to hold you istg he will just hold you to his chest and play with your hair as yall fall asleep
Sniper
Definitely a spooning guy if yall are sleeping in his van there's limited space and he's just adapted to sleeping on his side
Heavy
This man LOVES holding you like you will sleep on him he wraps his arms around you and reads as you fall asleep on him
Demoman
This man Definitely will just rest his head on your chest as he falls asleep he likes when you pet him slighty
Soldier
Definitely like demoman but also likes to protect you so he likes it either way he won't fall asleep before you at all like his brain won't let him
Engineer
Loves spooning and he will rub your thighs or back before you guys go to sleep also wouldn't be apposed to sleeping in between you thighs
Pyro
They love to hold you as you sleep like they won't let go at all the mask comes off during sleep they like when you trace there burn scars (I'm going off the unofficial pyro face by valve)
Scout
This man loves you laying on his chest it makes him feel confident that he can protect you he will play with your hair till you fall asleep
Spy
He's a romantic guy so really he wants you to lay on his chest but he also like spooning he's always gonna be the big spoon btw he wispers French as yall fall asleep

doing some hcs! i divided it into three parts bc i think he acts differently with different age groups of littles
warnings: talks of crying/tantrums, one mention of death, one mention of fighting, use of "big brother"
(0-2) babyspace
literally the definition of "fake it till you make it", since scout's usually the youngest of whatever group he's in (whether that be the mercs or his family), he's never had to take care of a baby before
holds you pretty awkwardly but surprisingly safe because he's scared of dropping you
will try to talk to you and expect answers until he remembers you're a baby
"so, uh, what kinda games you wanna play?" "ah?" "oh, yeah, nevermind."
gives you random objects to teeth/drool on like clean socks and spoons from the kitchen
usually doesn't like to ask for help, but if you wear diaps, he will 100% go to spy or engie and hold you up like a wet little cat and ask "help how do i change this thing"
weirdly likes making bottles. thinks it's relaxing to fill it up and feed you
favorite thing is to make you laugh. he'll do the thingy wear he tears paper to make you squeal and giggle. hearing you laugh makes him laugh
literally the only time scout has any patience is when he's taking care of you
tries putting you down for a nap and ends up sleeping with you because he doesn't want to leave you
good at calming you down when you cry
"shh, kid, it's okay, big brother's right here"
(3-4) toddlers
he enjoys that you're able to talk with him because all he does is talk
will tell you jokes and you usually don't get the punchline because it's something tom jones or death related
eats your snacks with you. like straight up steals handfuls of cheerios and yogurt bites off your table, he thinks they're delicious
tries to sneak bonk! into your sippy cup and gets yelled at by the other mercs later when you won't take a nap
tries to pay attention to you but always gets distracted, loses you very easily. by the time scout turns around, you're halfway down the other side of the hallway
makes a very poor attempt to teach you baseball, but it usually just devolves into a clumsy game of catch instead
if you won't eat, he either does "here comes the airplane!" or pretends to eat your food to make you jealous
calls his mom when you won't behave, "hey ma, how did ya deal with me when i was a kid?"
thinks it's hilarious to tickle you, will bring out the tickle monster
has a hard time trying to deal with tantrums, usually tries the distraction method of presenting toys to you. if you're really sobbing, he'll wait it out because he doesn't want to upset you further
(5+) kiddos
he's weirdly a lot more chill the older you are in regression, he feels he needs to have rules and guidelines for the littles, but if you're more of a kid, then he is laidback
huge arts and crafts kinda guy, since he likes doodling himself, it's very easy for the two of you to spend an afternoon just scribbling and coloring
you will probably spend more time outside than inside, tbh. he'll bring out balls and chalk and bubbles, anything you want to keep you entertained
will come up with a secret handshake with you (that both of you will forget within the hour and make up a new one)
so many cartoons. he likes watching them anyways so it's a no-brainer for babysitting
if you play with dolls, scout will make them fight each other
loves loves loves games, from hide and seek to the floor is lava to even just counting, he will make everything into a competition
he'll let you win on purpose though because it makes him happy to see you happy
"i can't believe you beat me again, toots! you gotta give your big brother a chance next time, yeah?"
will let you give him a makeover! if you have makeup, he'll use it, but usually it's just acrylic paint or washable markers because no one else at the base owns makeup
lets you stay up way past your bedtime, especially when it's movie night
holds dance parties in the common area oh yeah !!! they typically end up in scout trying to dance battle
