a surprising number of people see the term "social construct" and think that it means something is not real when it actually means something is so very real because it was created by us and is constantly enforced, often violently
Deadly egg recall
The FDA has upgraded an egg recall issued last month to “Class I,” its highest risk level, as it warns the public that consuming the products could cause “serious adverse health consequences or death.”
The recall of 1,589,577 dozen white-shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs was initially issued by Midwest Poultry Services in late July, which warned they might be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.
According to the company, the eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3 and have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17. The recalled egg cartons have either the code P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian Dates between 157-184.

Puppy play but the dog partner just puts on a vest with SERVICE ANIMAL printed on the back and sorts their partner's mail and does their taxes and then goes home
Do the duties change outside of tax season?
Yes they also make scary phone calls and order and put away groceries.
Robot play but the robot partner just makes roomba noises and cleans all the floors in the house while the other partner watches tv
Does the robot also get a service vest?
From what I've seen with some roombas, they might have googly eyes
A mole found its way into our house somehow and our cat has NO IDEA what to do about it.
Come to think of it, I also have no idea what to do about it.
If we're being really honest, the mole was also unclear of her motives, so I think we were all a bit confused.
thought too hard about MRI machines today and had this come to me in a vision
mri accident is literally one of my biggest anxiety freakouts. i dont care about being in the tiny loud tube, im so scared of a secret piece of metal i dont know about in my body will tear through me like a knife through butter. what if i ate a quarter in my sleep
Quarters George who eats a $10 roll of quarters every night is shredded into a fine mist my the MRI
TIME TO POST ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE IMAGES!!!!
Back when I worked at the hospital, I had to take MRI training and it was my favorite thing every time. It was only like 10 minutes long and went a little something like this:
Hey. The MRI is basically a really big magnet and by basically I mean it is and we literally never turn it off. It's like really big. Really really big and powerful and The Magnet is always on. We don't turn it off Ever, for any reason. We mean it bro, The Magnet is literally always on. It's crazy strong and will definitely kill you. So don't bring any metal into the MRI room, man. You will fuck up the machine (because The Magnet is always on) and then you will die (again, because The Magnet is always on). Here's some fun questions for you to test your understanding!
1) The ______ is always on.
2) The Magnet is ______ on.
3) How often is The Magnet on?
4) The Magnet is always __.
5) The Magnet is always on. T/F
6) The Magnet is usually on but we know to turn it off for you because you're a very special boy :) T/F
7) My weak fleshy body can survive the wrath of The Magnet. T/F
8) Look at this 500 lbs steel hospital bed, which The Magnet has crumpled into an origami crane. Imagine if that was you.
9) Is The Magnet ever off?
10) Sometimes we turn The Magnet off. T/F
Thank you for taking MRI training. We hope you learned that The Magnet is always on, because it is. It's on Right Now and it will be on every time you come to the MRI. Have fun and remember: The Magnet is always on!
I love you MRI training. The Magnet is always on.
one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
My spouse and I were talking last night and the jeans problem came up so I want to talk about it with tumblr here.
The jeans problem was the favorite lecture one of my philosophy professors in college gave about the history of jeans and how it ties into capitalism/mainstream culture absorbing and monetizing any counterculture it encounters. So prior to the 1950s jeans were mostly an item of work-wear that you wore on the job as a farmer or factory worker or miner because they were cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. If you were off the job you'd wear what we'd call now dress pants or slacks. This changes in the 1950s when youth culture start wearing jeans as regular clothing, again because they're cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. But then jeans get absorbed by the culture and we start getting designer jeans, acid-washed jeans, pre-ripped jeans, and now we got people shelling out hundreds of dollars for "povertycore" aesthetic. And now jeans aren't even cheap, durable, and hard-wearing.
This came up because my spouse was talking about thrifting and spooky things (two of her favorite things) and how there was this trend of buying a landscape painting from a thrift store which was probably going to end up in a garbage dump and painting a sheet ghost on it to make it art millennials would like. But now you can go to Michael's or Home Goods or wherever and just buy a landscape painting with a sheet ghost on it, mass-manufactured by a corporation. The counter-culture once again being monetized and absorbed by the culture. It's the jeans problem again.
The fact that this is perpetual may be best shown by the fact that I have encountered this as Aesthetic Mason Jar Problem.
Canning used to be...well, it was never cheap, but it was cheaper than it became. And the thing is, when you had empty jars and nothing to can, you could use them for other stuff, and then just wash them when it was canning time again (as long as you hadn't used them for, you know, paint or something).
And so people started using them to make cheap centerpieces for DIY weddings, which were popular in the 00s. You'd pour in some glass beads and stick something interesting in the beads, or stuff them with battery-operated fairy lights and ribbon, or tape photos to a roll of kraft paper that then went inside the jar, and so on. Because they weren't terribly expensive. You could do a ten-table wedding for $25, easy.
And this turned into "wouldn't it be cute to use them as the glasses, too?" And so you would. Because again, remember, they're relatively inexpensive. And people already did this at home when it was the off-season for canning! If you had thirty guests you probably had enough jars for everyone, and if you didn't, buying a single pack would probably fill the gap!
And along the way someone came up with "what if we got hemp handles so you didn't have to deal with condensation on your mason jar glasses."
And that's where it all went wrong.
Because suddenly you could get mason jars already designed to be mugs (that could not be used for canning because they had glass handles and no lid threads). You could get itty-bitty mason jars good for absolutely nothing except maybe a tablespoon of honey as a wedding favor. You could get mason jars designed for crafting, which weren't necessarily safe to can with. You could get PLASTIC mason jars, which would melt when put in a water bath.
And the original mason jars? The ones that were designed for canning, the ones we knew were sturdy and food-safe?
Well, I get mine from the thrift store these days. Because the world is fucking overrun with not-necessarily-safe jars and the ones we know are safe now cost over a dollar a jar brand new, and you can't always find them.
And that's how it went from "this is a nice practical way to use your extra garden veggies" to being a luxury.
