Working on a solidified idea of a Wizardsona, and considering making a separate dedicated wizard blog. What concrete details I have so far:
They're a detritomancer, a wizard who specializes in the control of things that rot, are rotting or have rotted. A wizard of decay and the decayed
They make a point of NOT being a necromancer, as that tends towards control of bodies and souls, while their control is more of cells and the force of decay. They have written a whole thesis on this concept and submitted it to the councel, who still classify them as an illegal necromancer. It's a bit of a sore spot or flash point, depending on who brings it up in what context.
They actually do practice a small bit of necromancy in the form of taking the memories of the dead. Any bones surrounded by the sludge offer up their memories of life. Jaw bones may offer languages or the force needed to fell a tree, while teeth may offer textures and fricatives. Hands may offer calligraphy, sewing, or any number of crafts for which they were used, etc. They will deny this is necromancy
Their corporeal form is a greenish sludge filled with bones mimicing a humanoid form most of the time, at least when among humanoids. They would argue the sludge is their body, and they mimic connective tissues, using the bones in (often wrong) configurations that provide structure to mimic certain shapes, but that's neither here nor there.
Their clothing is plant detritus, magicked into rough, sharp shapes. Think decaying maple leaves, nettles, and other pointed leaves.
They will sometimes have things they call collectors or familiars with them, seemingly made of something similar. They are neither. They are an extension of themself, some sludge separated from the whole, covering spare bones, to make shapes for specific tasks. One could argue that they are specialized organs for tasks like sending messages, finding fresh rot to consume, gathering magic from leylines, making deliveries, or whatever they're made for.
