No OCs, No fanfiction, AI everywhere, No character analysis, hardly any fan content, and absolutely no whimsy whatsoever.

So please excuse me while I rant!

To really see this point illustrated u need only look at Invincible and Dispatch and their respective fan bases

Invincible has the straight male centric fan base (as mentioned above)

Whereas Dispatch has a much more queer/diverse fanbase in comparison.

Like, both universes are clearly inspired by golden age superhero/villian origins with a more modern style of storytelling. But Dispatch is the one with so many different fanfics, so much unique and original (HUMAN) fan art! Almost no real power scaling because the fanbase is much more drawn in by the characters, their relationships, and their queer poly dynamic. People still love the powers and such but those all come secondary i feel.

I also feel why Dispatch attracted a more diverse and queercentric fanbase is Robert, because despite Robert being in theory the "White straight male protag" in practice he is kind of a critique on that archetype. He reads very bi/pan coded, and the story/audience isnt afraid of that reading.

Also it should be mentioned that the whole cast kind of reads that way.

Unlike Invincible, where everywhere you look its straight relationship after straight relationship. Flambae canonically gay! The tension between Invisigal and Blonde Blazer is palpable. And even the "straight" relationships are queer AF. Whereas in Invincible none of that is really there.

Like the closest (in the show at least) is the relationship between Eve and Amber but they never really take it that far. And Yes obviously William and his boyfriend count kind of(but not really) they're both there as secondary characters and later in the seasons they fade because they aren't really story relevant anymore.

And there's only one really gender queer topic/character we kind of get. And thats a little later in the comic storyline with Monstergirl and her half-Flaxian son she had while transformed. So shes technically the "father".

But like eh?

Also I agree that really its the fanbase that makes or break this all, like No goggles mark was kind of being read as gay because he wants to find William during the Invincible War arc, but then a huge set of fans shut that shit down because "No my male power fantasy cant have feelings for another guy!?!"

Also the other huge difference between the two is how the characters/writing handle resolving situations.

Pretty much All conflicts in Invincible are solved or at least end in violence. The classic might makes right and fists do the talking male power fantasy. Now im not saying i dont enjoy the fights! They're really really good, and in superhero media more often than not things are usually solved by violence. But holy shit, thats everyone's fuckin answer to everything in Invincible! 🙄 it gets sooo fuckin boring.

Like Dispatch has fight scenes but violence isnt always the answer. Sometimes communicating is or simply helping people. Like the majority of calls are accidents, natural disasters, or finding missing people, ect. Fights are usually shut down. Like even the bar fight only happened because there was really no other solution. And the war/boss fight at the end of the game had to happen, but overall violence/killing is only painted as ONE of the answers not the ONLY answer (like in Invincible)

Like I get it it the author loved torturing his characters with the most brutal beat downs, but like eh? Idk personally im liking the show more than the comics right now mainly cause of the gender swap Tech Jacket and some other more minor changes but ye the post above really summarised my complaints best.

Back when I was first leaving the mattress store in 2017 I interviewed at a few places. One was Tesla, the other a jewelry store. I wasn’t a fan of Musk, but I liked the idea of electric cars and I’ve always excelled at sales so I felt like it was worth considering.

I arrived and chatted with the sales manager who said everyone started on phones before they could work their way up. I was a little wary of that as I’m not a phone person but she laughed and said, “Well, you know. We’re still just a startup, so everyone has to put in the hours.”

I stared at her in confusion. Tesla. A startup. In 2017. What???

I laughed a little and suggested that it was past that stage of growth but she doubled down and repeated it later. I remained baffled. After the interview she offered to let me talk to an employee to see how happy she was.

I readily agreed. The manager left. I asked the employee how happy she was.

She said that sometimes pay was late, that promotions were promised that didn’t manifest for months, but that overall she liked working there and cut them slack because they were still just a startup.

I stared at her. It was like listening to a cultist repeating a phrase that was in direct contradiction with reality. I wanted to ask what she thought a startup was but I just thanked her for her time.

I got offered both jobs, Tesla or jewelry. Jewelry offered four more dollars an hour. When I turned down the Tesla lady I kindly said that I didn’t feel there was as much job security in a startup.
