Explanation of what this does for anyone confused!
This is your semi frequent reminder that there is no official AO3 app
All those are unofficial and available on the Google play store as of August 13th 2025. They mirror AO3's content and insert ads, for which the developer gets paid by page impression (that's every time the ad appears in the fic you're reading) not just clicks.
No money goes to AO3, nor to the fic writer. It goes to the person who did the bare minimum.
Many of these apps have poorly worded or non existent privacy policies, so they may also be mining as much data as possible and selling that on to unknown third parties.
Please, just use the official AO3 site and the browser.
So, the other day, when I was discussing AO3's policy on solicitation, a tumblr user came at me saying that AO3's "no monetization/solicitation" rules were "bullshit" because nexus mods allows fan created mods to get paid.
Look at me.
Look at me right now.
AO3 protects you.
AO3 protects you and your works.Â
It protects your works from copyright strikes and DCMA takedowns.
It protects your work from advertisers.
It protects your work from overzealous legal challenges.
It protects your right to post adult content.
AO3 is non-profit and AO3 will never try to use you or your work to make a profit for themselves and AO3 will go to bat for you if someone tries to legally challenge you or your works.
Please respect AO3 and its mission.
AO3 protects fandom from payment processors.
Mastercard has no reason to mess with AO3. Visa doesn't. PayPal doesn't. Stripe doesn't. There's no compensation-for-porn exchange happening. By design. BY DESIGN.
AO3's founders knew that AO3 needed to be set up to protect us from any and all avenues of attack on fanworks. They've managed it quite successfully.
All y'all who thought they didn't need to? Sit the fuck down and SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Hey Americans! If you buy things from overseas, as of August 22 you probably donât anymore.
Most foreign postal services have paused shipping of packages under $800 to the USA. You will hear that itâs âbecause of tariffs,â but thatâs not exactly true.
Itâs because the US:
Has not given anyone a way to pay those tariffs and
Has not been clear on what will ACTUALLY have to be paid. (The countryâs tariff has been floated, but a US$80 flat fee has also been floated.
Many countries require people to pay tariffs when they receive a package. Thatâs fine. But you have to give people a way to pay the damn tariff. And there isnât a way to do so. Apparently there isnât even a PLAN for a way to do so.
So: if you have been buying from Etsy or eBay or a little shop overseas, if you subscribe to a foreign magazine, if you are an immigrant and you buy food from home via mail, now you will need to fly there and bring it home. Of course, the people who can afford that are also the ones responsible for this dumb policy.
It's a good thing the U.S. has a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem and no one in the U.S. will need to purchase anything made in another *puts finger to earpiece* one moment I'm receiving some more information
Japan is temporarily stopping almost all parcel post to the U.S. in anticipation of this. They literally just wonât accept them because they donât know how theyâll be able to send them.

Tired of watching your pot for the water to boil? Skip the wait with this one weird trick!
me, holding a pizza box and shouting: SUE!
customer walks up
me: sue?
customer opens the box, frowns, and sticks her finger in the pizza: i didnât order pepperoni
me, with a voice devoid of any emotion: âŠâŠ. sue?
customer: oh! no iâm (name)!
the actual sue, materializing at my elbow: is that a pizza for sue?
me: would you like some free breadsticks to eat while we remake you pizza? another customer touched it
âanother customerâ sheepishly mumbles sorry
sue, who has clearly worked with the public: you take as long as you need to, honey
me, shouting at the top of my lungs: ICED VENTI VANILLA LATTE FOR JENNIFER
male customer standing right in front of me turns to look
me: jennifer? iced vanilla latte?
customer says nothing, takes the drink, shoves straw in, takes a long sip
customer: i wanted this hot. i ordered a small hot decaf skinny vanilla latte.
me: are you jennifer?
customer: no, iâm daniel
Some people wonder why people fight wars, but I have no trouble imagining reasons for people to just haul off on each other.Â
Itâs crazy and fucked up that being yourself is actually the solution.
Itâs like. When I was told to âjust be yourselfâ as a kid I thought it was a passive thing. Like oh easy I just have to sit here and be myself. but the reason so many people think that âbeing yourselfâ is bullshit advice is because you actually have to make active choices to do this and it WILL make your life way more fun. You have to wear t-shirts of bands that were popular ten years ago because you like them. You have to do your hair in a way that you find cute or comfortable even if itâs âso ninetiesâ. If your friend says a food you enjoy is gross to them, you canât be afraid to admit you casually disagree. You have to do hobbies that youâre interested in even if youâre bad at them and you cant feel like you have to get good at something before you tell people itâs an activity you do. You have to read manga and comic books in public and get piercings your relatives think are unattractive. You donât have to tell people you dislike that you dislike them, but you donât have to give them your time and attention either. You have to rewatch that kids show youâre nostalgic for even if youâre in your 30s. You have to change your name if you hate it, even if only a few close friends can know. You have to get fun girly drinks at the bar. You have to order hot chocolate when you donât like coffee and black coffee when you donât like sweet things. I am still bad at practicing this but it is the only way to make it all tolerable.
First you have to realize that "yourself" is a construct built by the decisions you make. Then it becomes clear that being yourself is a deliberate and intentional practice, not a passive state of existence.
Every time I see some panic article about people worshipping chatgpt, I always ask "okay, what was that person doing before they started praying to chatgpt" because the answer is almost always some shit like "well, they were in Qanon and ran a Facebook page about psychic serpents who live in the center of the earth"
Like, these were not normal people who suddenly became strange by worshipping chatgpt. These are people whose relationship to religion was already mediated by the tiktok algorithm and an ecosystem of new age grifters.
I also wanna say I don't think this is common at all. I have a whole Google account whose algorithm I have tailored to send me conspiracist / new age shit. Even on this account I had to actively search out chatgpt spiritualization stuff. I understand that this is just my personal investigation and not a representative sample, but I was surprised at how few people were actually discussing AI "awakening."
There was not much of it! The broader milieu is still overwhelmingly focused on a combination of reheated "Spiritual Warfare" and spiritualized hustle cultire.

So this showed up on Twitter and
And hereâs that link youâre welcome
âif I cant have my dignity, at least I have something to readâ <- put this on my tombstone
I started using Head and Shoulders ten years ago for itchy scalp and dandruff, and then for ten years I have not had itchy scalp and dandruff, so I thought âwhy do I still buy shampoo to combat itchy scalp and dandruff when I do not have itchy scalp and dandruff,â so I stopped buying the shampoo for itchy scalp and dandruff and can you guess I have now? Can you predict what currently afflicts me? Itâs alright if you canât because apparently I fuckin couldnât either
Cutting something out of your life because you think you donât need it any more only to realize that it was in fact working as intended and preventing a problem that will return should you stop doing this is a good experiment to run periodically with something small like dandruff shampoo, lest you start to think it would be a good idea to do this with like letâs say public health and the social safety net and vaccines
I had a liver transplant when I was 14 and like six months later I was chatting with my surgeon and he said âthereâs gonna come a time, probably when youâre a teenager, where youâre gonna think, âI feel great, why am I still taking all this medication? I havenât needed it in years.â and youâre gonna want to stop taking all this medication. Guess whatâs gonna happen then? Youâre gonna go into rejection and your liver is gonna start failing, and youâre gonna be dying again, and weâre gonna have to find you another liver. So donât do that.â And I said âwhy the fuck would anyone do that?â and he said âpeople are stupid.â
every once in a while when I get annoyed by a pharmacy or donât wanna get out of bed to do my drugs I think âugh, this is dumb, why do I do this?â and that conversation slams into me like a truck and I remember that I am, in fact, stupid

Every person on earth needs to read this post. It will make peopleâs lives a lot better and lessen the crises everyone faces in day-to-day lives.
"Do you ever dream of land?" The whale asks the tuna.
"No." Says the tuna, "Do you?"
"I have never seen it." Says the whale, "but deep in my body, I remember it."
"Why do you care," says the tuna, "if you will never see it."
"There are bones in my body built to walk through the forests and the mountains." Says the whale.
"They will disappear." Says the tuna, "one day, your body will forget the forests and the mountains."
"Maybe I don't want to forget," Says the whale, "The forests were once my home."
"I have seen the forests." Whispers the salmon, almost to itself.
"Tell me what you have seen," says the whale.
"The forests spawned me." Says the salmon. "They sent me to the ocean to grow. When I am fat with the bounty of the ocean, I will bring it home."
"Why would the forests seek the bounty of the oceans?" Asks the whale. "They have bounty of their own."
"You forget," says the salmon, "That the oceans were once their home."
Last year I finally had an excuse to illustrate this simple little Tumblr story I've had bookmarked forever for class.
