Literally though, feeling like and having thoughts of "well maybe I should just end it all" and you're making a cup of tea as you think to yourself *well, my brain is doing that awful thing again, I should have a little treat... Where did I put the biscuits/cookies*... Is literally just a good way to decompress.
A good snack (tea included), shower and sleep help keep me alive more than any protective factors "list the people who are important to me" strategy mental health professionals have suggested.
In extreme distress it's hard to think of, and it's extra not useful if there's been a relationship breakdown with any of those people. But recognising physical discomfort and relief is much easier to remember and reinforce.
You ever feel awful and then feel human again after washing your hair? Or feel grumpy and feel like a whole new person after you eat something? You ever feel like you're making so many mistakes when you're overtired?... Checking off all of those things that fix your brain chemistry, just helps.
