Apparently in the 1990s Billy Wilder the director of Sunset Boulevard was asked about the meaning of the chimpanzee at the beginning of the film and replied “don’t you get it? Before Joe Gillis came along, Norma Desmond was fucking the monkey!”

there were no digital effects used in that shot. they actually had David Bowie hanging upsidedown on this rig system with his boot glued to the brick. then they just flipped him around and were like, okay David, don’t die.
okay David, don’t die
Wow! That’s some science!

Gremlins
The gremlins in the film Gremlins were animatronic and terrified actors Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates. In fact, Galligan claimed that the gremlins were sending him messages in his dreams and Cates was convinced that they followed her around set. One night when director Joe Dante was reviewing film, he found footage of lead gremlin Stripe throwing tomatoes at a set wall. Convinced it was a prank by notorious jokester and executive producer Steven Spielberg, Dante went to show him the footage, but it had completely disappeared. Spielberg said he had nothing to do with the prank and no cast or crew admitted to it. It took 6 years for Dante to be persuaded to film Gremlins 2.
Speed
The film Speed is based upon the life of Keanu Reeves. He once shot his friend in the leg, hopped onto a speeding bus, took control of it, and leaped over an incomplete highway just to feel an adrenaline rush.
The Great Gatsby (1974)
The original Great Gatsby cast Mia Farrow in the role of Daisy Buchanan and Sam Waterston as Nick Carraway. Robert Redford turned down the role of Jay Gatsby within a week before shooting and was replaced by an in utero Leonardo Dicaprio. Needless to say, Dicaprio's acting brought the role of Gatsby to life and was described by film critic Roger Ebert as an "inscrutable delight."
Hitchcock
Many people do not know that Alfred Hitchcock was actually a giant puffer fish, which is why he had such a distinct shape. He also believed that Tippi Hedren was some type of goldfish and constantly tried to mate with her over the course of her acting career.
To prepare for his role as Alfred Hitchcock in the 2012 film Hitchcock, Anthony Hopkins actually learned to scuba dive and lived with several puffer fish, developing the unique speech pattern that only Alfred Hitchcock and puffer fish use.
Legally Blonde
The film Legally Blonde was originally created as a 10 minute advertisement for the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Elle supposed to represent the best, most qualified student at the school. However, when Harvard heard that Reese Witherspoon had taken the role of Elle, the school offered three times as much money and hired a team of writers and producers to make Harvard Law the focus and the ad was extended to 1 hour and 37 minutes.
Johnny Depp
does not exist. He is only a part of our collective consciousness which is why he can portray so many different characters at one time.
Clueless
Many people know that the film Clueless is based on Jane Austen’s Emma. However, few know that it is partly based upon Hawthorne’s Scarlet Letter. Rich boy Elton’s seduction of Alicia Silverstone’s character Cher parallels the seduction of Hester Prynne by Dimmesdale. Much like Hester, Cher too must endure the hardships of a Beverly Hills home and illegitimate child.
Let Us Now Turn to Pixar
The first Pixar film Toy Story was live action as Walt Disney owned several toys that actually did come to life, which he would show off at parties. However, Sheriff Boner, the character that Sheriff Woody is based upon, protested all of the screen time that astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the character which Buzz Lightyear is loosely based upon, received. The live action portions were then replaced with CGI animation techniques and all of the characters' original names and features altered to avoid legal complications.
Jurassic Park
Jeff Goldblum was originally supposed to play a pterodactyl that Laura Dern's character would fall in love and leave the island with. Realizing that a pterodactyl was out of Laura Dern's league and that Jeff Goldblum was far more attractive as a human, the part of Dr. Ian Malcolm was written at the last minute and Laura Dern was permitted to leave the island rather than be eaten by the T-Rex, another option that the writers came up with for her character.
The 2002 Spider Man
Spider Man was originally going to be a spoof of Super Man when Toby Maguire was cast. This was for obvious reasons as Toby Maguire could easily be mistaken for a young Christopher Reeve. However, when the director Sam Raimi saw how emotionally raw the upside down kiss that Toby Maguire shares with Kristen Dunst was, the movie fell into a more dramatic genre.
Life of Pi
Every animal was harmed in the making of the movie. The director Ang Lee personally ensured this by kicking some on his way onto set each day.
Let's Begin with Fight Club
Fight Club was originally written in a similar style to Brokeback Mountain but the producers thought that all of the sheep herding was boring so replaced those scenes with underground fighting. Jared Leto replaced Jake Gyllenhaal, and Edward Norton and Brad Pitt both took over the role originally slated for Heath Ledger because it takes at least two people to make up the amount of acting that Heath Ledger did for any role. The same amount of homoeroticism, however, is present in both Fight Club and Brokeback Mountain.
