I hate the idea that anyone living their day-to-day life with a disability is somehow "strong" or "inspiring" compared to able-bodied people.

What's the alternative? Should I just shrivel up and die because certain tasks are difficult and/or impossible for me to accomplish without some outside aid?

I'm not strong. I'm a little bitch boy that just wishes he could safely walk to the store by himself after 6pm.

Perhaps we should make the world more accessible to the point that disabled individuals can be independent? It shouldn't be viewed as some grand achievement to purchase a carton of eggs from Aldi on a Friday evening.

When they went out last, she allegedly called out every curb, step, and miscellaneous obstacle to our friend the entire night. He only pointed it out to her once they made it back to his car and she realized she wasn't the one driving for once.

I dont care if 9/10 of the people who use the wheelchair ramp arent actually in wheelchairs. As long as the 1 person who needs it has access to it.

I dont care if 9/10 people who use the automatic push button on the library door can actually push the door open themselves. As long as the 1 person who the door is too heavy for gets to use it.

I dont care if 9/10 people who buy the can tab opener, or the little guitar clamp that holds the chords for you, or the hand grip that helps you hold chop sticks, don't need any of it and just get it to "be lazy". As long as the one disabled person who needs it gets access to it.

I do not care. Oh my GOD I do not care. As long as there's a disabled person on this planet who the accessibility device will benefit, the accessibility device is necessary.

Also, if you're so worried about people being "lazy" by using accessibility devices, MORE worried than you are about disabled (visibly or not) people not having access to them, you have unchecked ableism you need to work through.

When I was training to be a battered women’s advocate, my supervisor said something that really blew my mind:

“You can always assume one thing about your clients; and that is that they are doing their best. Always assume everyone is doing their best. And if they’re having a day where their best just isn’t that great, or their best doesn’t look like your best, you have to be okay with that.”

Any now whenever anyone in my life, either a friend or a client, frustrates me, disappoints me, or pisses me off, I just tell myself They are doing their best. Their best isn’t that great today, but I have days where my best isn’t that great either.

Y'all just won't fucking acknowledge that our legislation is harmful to a huge portion of our communities and Republicans will quite literally redistrict to ensure legislation stays against us.
