Unsurprisingly Uncultured
So I've been enjoying @doesthebatfamknowpopculture posts (Which you should definitely check out!) And an idea hit me!
Out of the batboys, I feel as though the order of who knows about internet/memes/movies/etc most to least would be: Tim, Duke, Dick, Jason and Damian.
Not to mention the fact that Tim has at least three people in his life that don't get some of the most basic references from modern media.
I'm talking about Kon (who may have been programmed with knowledge of some entertainment culture but may have never personally watched or read the material), Jason (who flippin died and probably hasn't really taken the time to catch up on stuff he would have missed), and Damian (who was just your typical average sheltered kid assassin).
I'm imagining these three people pissing off Tim for not getting his movie/TV show/meme reference and him making it his personal mission to educate them. Especially if he made a reference to something he thinks they'll like.
Tim references The Iron Giant: Kon doesn't get the reference. Automatic Young Justice movie night. Cass and Bart ask Tim if this is a good idea because... you know. But Kon must be educated on cinema. There may be a few shed tears by the end, but that's just good writing. And sure, Tim had been dragged into a group hug full of mixed emotions of sadness in similarities and anger in not being warned how much I would relate, Rob!
Tim references The Fox and The Hound. Damian doesnât get the reference. With Dick there to watch the movie with them (and protect Tim if Damian gets angry about the ending of this beautiful movie), they watch as even love (platonic/familial/romantic/etc) can transcend societal expectations and prejudices. Damian did NOT hang on to every scene wondering how it would end. And he did NOT tear up at the friendship that defied nature.
Tim makes a Puss in Boots: The last wish reference, and Jason doesn't get it. They watch it, and Jason's like, "Alright, that was a cool movie and all, but why'd you feel the need to get me to watch it, Timbo?" Tim's like, "didn't you pay attention?"
Jason: The dying and coming back to life? Yeah. The panic attacks, sure. But overall why did you want me to see it so bad?
Tim rolls his eyes, gets up, and on his way out he says something like: Because he fought death for the life he cherished. And I hope you fight for a life worth living too.
Jason is left stunned from the honesty, but by the time he thinks up some kind of jab or quip, Tim's already out of the room.
Feel free to use other movies. I only watch animated ones frfr.
(Bonus points for a movie idea for Dick to watch)
