I was forced to watch all the twilight movies on new Years (my best friend really wanted us to watch them cause I'd never seen them and they keep claiming I'm uncultured because of that) anyways the way people talk about twilight, even l the really die hard fans, you'd think it was like the worst thing ever, but it's actually just so fun, like, it's bizarre yeah, but really fun. I think there are definitely flaws in it but that's just basically the case for everything. watching the movies had made me realize that I probably would in fact really like to at least read the books once. Anyways I got a copy of twilight for a dollar from a library book sale, so uh wish me luck.

After my lastest reread of New Moon. I need a little space to rant. I honestly do not understand where Team Jacob people are coming from. I usually just shrug it off with excuses like, yeah people interpret the story differently, Taylor Lautner is shirtless, Jacob is a happier, more palatable character. Because I have only read New Moon twice as opposed to reading Twilight a dozen times, I didn't have much to base my opinion on.

But now I do.

And I don't get it.

Bella made it so abundantly clear that she had zero desire to pursue Jacob romantically. The closest she got to reciprocating was for his happiness, not hers. Sweet, selfless Bella was willing to give in because she wanted her friend happy. The rest of the time, Bella was fearful of Jacob misinterpreting her actions, wishing he were a brother so she could reap the benefits of a close relationship with him, or thinking of herself as selfish.

And sure. People can side with Jacob and claim Bella was stubborn and didn't know what she wanted. I won't.

And it's not like the reader had the space to forget about Edward to really fall for this new love interest. The entire plot progressed because Bella was very much still in love with Edward. She sought Jake out because of Edward. She rode the motorcycles because of Edward. She found the meadow because of Edward. In both near-death experiences, her last words were to Edward. She let herself drown because being in the ocean with her hallucination of Edward was the happiest she'd been in months. Bella's obsession with Edward continued past the Edward book and into the Jacob book.

And even if Bella wasn't so clearly in love with Edward. And even if she wasn't setting clear boundaries, Jacob still wasn't all that great? We're told he's a sweet sunshine boy, but most of the time he was grumpy and pushy and rude. He had his moments, I will give him that. It was sweet that he noticed Bella doesn't like music. But Jake was judgy towards a group of guys who seemed to be doing good things and bitchy towards Sam just because he didn't understand what was happening. He was rude to Bella's friend Mike at the movies. He consistently pushed Bella's boundaries and undermined her feelings. Edward wasn't perfect, but no one in this fandom pretends that he was. All in all, not the great love interest.

I don't understand the obsession. They weren't childhood friends. Bella didn't even remember Jacob until she needed something from him. I don't get it.

I finally updated one of my WIPs today. I owed it to myself to start writing again, and I owed it to my mom to not spend her first birthday gone wallowing in my grief. Happy birthday in the great hereafter, mom. I wrote almost 1900 words in your honor.

It's not fair that Edward is mad at Rosalie at the end of New Moon. She was trying to take one for the team as the only Cullen who wasn't emotionally impacted by the news of Bella's death and rip the band-aid off. What else was she supposed to do? Keep it from him? Have him discover it himself? Make one of her grieving family members do it? How was she supposed to know he'd go kill himself? That's a crazy thing to do! She just wanted to fix her family, she wanted Edward to come home and start grieving with his loved ones, to learn from his fucking mistake and come home.
