Rats only live for two years, so Neil passed 2008 at the latest. But what's so, so unlikely and wonderful and dare I say, magical about Neil is that even though his body died, one photoshoot of him playing with a toy piano has immortalized him in the minds of thousands of people. A rat playing the piano is a silly idea, but people play along with it- with him. They celebrate the anniversaries. They make fanart. Through their enthusiasm, their willingness to suspend their disbelief and embrace the joy, the music lives on. And in these times, we need all the music we can find. We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams and everything the rest of that poem said.

everyone tells me that ADHD isn't an excuse for being lazy and that there are people with ADHD who have overcome their symptoms and are successful but every day I drag around an invisible dopplegänger of myself who is horrible and listless and always complains. and he is so heavy. I'm ambitious and I'm passionate but he isn't and the problem is that to get anywhere in life I have to grab him by the leg and pull him along the whole way, kicking and screaming, and sometimes it gets exhausting. sometimes he pulls me down with him. and it gets a bit difficult to explain to people why I'm lying down on the floor in pain when they can't see him.
