Here we are at my first entry into the fanfiction space on tumblr with a fanfic I wrote when I was like 13 💀
I did spruce up a few things as to not be so cringé~
This is also my own timeline since Jason’s first appearance as the Red Hood was in 2005 but his first appearance as Robin was in 1983. So I set this back a few years so Jason is in his early to mid twenties to make more sense, since he became Red Hood at 18-19 n it took him a couple years to warm back up to Bruce.
Readers approximate age: 19-22
(I know it ain’t Christmas, hush.)
Christmas at Wayne Manor….
( listened to this while writing it )
It was a cold winter night in Gotham city, many people shutting their windows and snuggling close their fires.
Sitting alone in front of another fire, inside the beautiful walls of Wayne manor with Alfred the cat at foot and pen in hand was you, (Y/n). Writing a story about a town with peculiar a ruby red road and even more peculiar residents. Writing was a hobby of yours, you liked making up stories and writing them down as a fun way to pass the time. You weren't paying much attention to what was going on around you as you had lost your train of thought between the dancing flames of the fireplace. Old fashioned Christmas music flew from one ear and out the other.
You were alone this snowy evening.
Just because it’s Christmas doesn't mean that our beloved Wayne family is off duty, though you remained hopeful nonetheless.. hoping a certain member of this family would visit you.
Man.. were you whipped for him and his white highlights.
But alas it was 40 Minutes past midnight and no sign of Mister Todd or any of the Bat-family members.
So you continued to daydream..
Jason was always nice to you.. well he never said anything mean.. or anything at all... ever.. but that didn't mean that he didn’t care for you, right? You couldn’t think of anything you had done nothing to anger him, so theres no reason for him to hate you, is there?
You had been crushing on Jason since you first saw him when he was Robin. You were not a risk-taker, per se, but you were a curious person. Curiosity got the better of you when you saw a pointy eared shadow, followed it, got caught by Batman, Robin was careless and had already taken off his mask at that point and called Bruce by his name, so on and so on, n’ now you’re one of the secret holders of the Bat family. You've even done a few recon missions with The Bat. He mostly told you to sit in one place and stay quiet and alert him if you saw anything suspicious or caught any incriminating chatter among guards but still.
You weren't athletically incapable, you could at least do a couple pushups and run at a decent pace as to not be complete dead weight. Although, you have been getting more fit though since you’re living with Batman. (You had moved in 3 years ago since it was just easier and they had an extra room.)
You were so completely lost in thought you didn't hear the large front doors open or the sound of heavy boots walking on the marble floors.
The person stopped in the doorway of the office were you were sitting in and stared at you for a moment. You, still oblivious to the world around you, failed to notice this presence.
"What's got you so spaced?"
A raspy voice said behind your ear.
You almost had a heart attack. Your head flung around and you came nose to nose with the visitor you had hoped to have.
Your face instantly heated up, you tried so hard not to react as he stared at you wide-eyed, surprised by your startled reaction.
You pulled away quickly and turned your back to him in attempt to hide your rosey cheeks.
It stayed quite for a small moment before Jason cleared his throat.
"… you’re up late. Aren’t you usually in your room at this hour?”
He said as he dropped his helmet on the foot stool, plopped down on the couch and stretched his arms out over the top of the seat.
Your eyes wandered over to him.
You looked at the way he was sitting and your face instantly turned beet red all over again. You averted your gaze as you said
"Just because l'm in my room doesn't mean Im sleeping..."
"Ahh the anti-social type. I get you,l get you" he said with a chuckle and you cringed internally.
'Well great. Now he thinks l'm anti-social. I mean, I don’t really like anyone in this awful city but still.' You thought to yourself.
"Hey why don't you come and sit over here. You tryna set yourself alight sitting so close to the fire or something?" he laughed.
Your heart skipped a beat and you tried to come up with an excuse as fast as possible. You could atleast hide your flusteredness sitting where you wer. Chalk the redness of your cheeks up to a reflection of the fire on your skin.
"U-uh, I can't. Alfred's sleeping on my feet sorry-"
He raised a sceptical brow.
"Ps Ps. Alfred" he whispered. The two-toned kitty stretched and gazed tiredly over at Jason.
"Come er'e” he whispered again as he beckoned the cat over.
Alfred stood up from his comfy position on your feet and waltzed over to Jason, jumped up on the couch and curled up in the space between Jason's legs.
"Well now he's laying over here.” Jason said as his eyes fell on you. You sighed deeply and Jason snickered in triumph. You slowly walked over to him and plopped down next to him.
You both sat there in silence for a while listening to the crackle of the fire.
"You know I don't get you.." Jason suddenly spoke up "hm?" you replied, your face turning to him.
"I mean why didn't ditch when you found out about us."
"Well this family.. you know what we are-" he said
"Jezz, you make it sound like you're all vampires, don’t say it like that” You laughed.
"Ay maybe we are, I've died and come back to life. For all you know I could be sucking people dry every evening~" he said as he leaned closer and used his hands to make fangs
"Thank you! for putting that wonderful image in my mind! I now feel instantly uncomfortable." you said leaning forward to put your elbows on your knees, rubbing your forehead as he chortles.
"Still though it takes guts. Being apart’ve all this. It’s not easy." he said returning to his original position "thanks?" you replied.
After a few more seconds, he spoke up again.
"Why’re you so on edge? I’m not actually a bloodsucker y’know…" he asked as he eyed you over, chuckling.
"Hm? oh well... this is kinda the first time you've ever talked to me, so l'm kinda tryna figure out how l'm supposed to act.." you smile, trying to relax.
"Really?! You’re kidding right?? theres no way-" he said in astonishment but you cut him off by nodding your head.
"Wow... and we've known each other since I was Robin.. I mean I know I'm not at the mansion all that often but still… wow.. crazy." he said in exasperation.
"You know just because we haven't had the pleasure of exchanging words before doesn't mean that I haven't been paying attention.." he said looking down at Alfred as you looked at him with nervously.
"I've noticed you staring at me through the corner of my eye.. always used to think maybe you thought I looked funny….” He extends his leg and runs his eyes over his boot. “n’ then a couple years went by and I thought, oh c’mon she musta gotten used to my ugly mug now so… what’s the deal?” he said as his lips gradually spread into a smirk, looking over to you without turning his head.
“I mean… stealing little glances… cheeks turning red.. there’s really only one thing a guy can guess..”
You sit there practically burning holes into the floor with how you’re staring at it.
“The Christmas music is really not helping me think of a sentence to say.” You pull a face to try and focus but you physically cannot.
Jason laughs breathlessly at your reaction. “I’m sure you’ll think of a good excuse eventually.. n plus…It's cute.." he says. You could feel your legs turn to jelly as those words left his mouth. K.O.
Jason looked over to you as your ears are dusted in a deep shade of red "aw man" he laughs and you looked at him with shock.
"I'm just gonna go and die in my sleep, you have a great Christmas now mister Todd, haha. Buh-bye!” you said as you stood up in a panic and sped-walked over to the door, an over dramatised customer service grin plastered on your face.
"Hey, hey! (y/n) wait! You miss what I said before??” he calls out to you.
"We may not have exchanged any words but that doesn't mean I wasn't paying attention.."
Your heart dropped down to your feet ‘yeah…. He definitely knows.’ You stood there for a second before you heard the most brilliant words in your mind……
At full speed you tried to escape the impending doom of your heart as you begun making your way out the door.
The sudden strength in Jason’s tone sent chills down your arms and stopped you in your tracks.
"It's so rude to walk away when you're in the middle of a conversation…”
You dropped your head and walked over the the sofa across from him
Your heart rate was going insane, this encounter had for sure taken at least 10 years off your life.
You hesitantly schlepped your feet over to him and sunk into the place the furthest away from him, which still pretty much had you squished right next to him.
"Sorry Alfred, you’re gonna have to get up now." he said softly ushering the cat off his seat.
Your eyes refused, they could only muster as far as his lower abdomen.
He gently grabbed your jaw with his right hand and lifted your face to look at him. Your heart was beating so fast that you started worrying if he could hear it.
"What about me? I barely say a word and you run away… don't I get a say in the matter?" He said in a low tone as his crystal blue eyes focused onto yours.
"Relax." He breathed as his hand that was on your jaw glided down to the nape of your neck and rested there.
"I didn't object did I?" he said with a smirk as he pulled your face nearer to his own looking down to your lips as he brought his own closer, you closed your eyes as your breath hitched in anticipation….
You still felt nothing after a few seconds and became increasingly confused.
"Merry Christmas (y/n)." he whispered.. then the warmth of his body vanished. You opened your eyes in curiosity only to see him walking away. "Oh and would you be a doll and put my helmet back in the Bat cave for me? thanks. You have a good night now…" he said chuckling as he exited the room, waving goodbye nonchalantly.
You snapped back to reality and your head was instantly spinning. Your heart was going crazy and the butterflies in your tummy were performing aerobic manoeuvres worthy of a flight show as you sat there in pure shock.
He heard from the doctor room behind him as he walked away…
