The first story trailer for Bellolandia Studio's 'Electro Andes,' its upcoming South American pilot.
Set in a dystopian future shaped by Andean mythology, the project will make its world premiere at Annecy next week.
Bellolandia calls its approach "Sudakuga," a portmanteau of Sudaca, the colloquial, often derogatory term for Latin Americans, and sakuga, the Japanese word for sequences of especially high-quality, expressive animation.
"We consider what we're doing an anomaly. You don't get to see much anime coming from South America."
the cast time for a phoenix down is so funny actually. the wol is frantically digging through their pack for that stupid feather they KNOW is at the bottom somewhere
The difference between "There used to be hot summers too,” and a climate crisis.
Look, we all know this is true. But there isn't a SOURCE for this, and the graph itself is basically illegible beyond "ooh colors". If we want to be good stewards of our informational resources, we need to cite our sources.
From a reverse image search, I found the website Show Your Stripes, run by the University of Reading in the UK, which is likely where the above graph originated. It provides temperature data for various regions of the world from approximately 1900-2025. For example, here are graphs for Canada, India, and Papua New Guinea:
All clearly show a sharp rise in temperature beginning around approximately the 1980s, which corresponds with the graph in OP's post. But now we know where this data came from, and we can verify its validity accordingly.
I think at bare minimum all medical professionals need to make sure they are treating patients with more kindness and respect than grifters. if you go to a doctor and they treat you like shit, humiliate you, and send you home without any information on your body or access to treatment, then health-grifters' offers will start to feel more tempting by simply giving the most basic performance of taking you seriously and caring about your well-being. grifters should be condemned for manipulating and exploiting sick people, and doctors also play a role in whether grifts thrive or are successfully identified and rejected. genuine baseline human respect, and beginning a relationship with a patient by earning (rather than demanding) trust, goes a long way.
It's so important to acknowledge the very real and sometimes truly horrible failings of the healthcare profession and the pharmaceutical industry while never ever ever letting them drive us into the arms of pseudoscientific bullshit. This is something I feel really strongly about.
i talk big shit about monsterfucking but the truth is nothing has ever made me as indescribably aroused as that one shot of dragoon gloves in the ffxiv heavensward trailer
this is literally not safe for work. im blushing and fanning myself as we speak
You need the armor to survive the fucking
mobility aids and glasses AND MEDICATION should be free for everyone
The John chapters of Nona are endlessly captivating to me because. Of John's story. He was already living a post-apocalypse even before the climate disaster peaked. His culture and his language taken from him before he was born by people whose descendants taught him to thank them for the opportunity to learn theirs. And he trusted them! And he learned!! And he was angry!! Of course he was angry! Who could have blamed him if he had been born angry? His rage was justified! He was right! The people who destroyed his world would escape consequences—again! And live on at the expense of the suffering of everyone they crushed along the way—again!
Who can say it would be unjustified, if the grief and rage of indigenous people, stolen from and exploited and denied justice, finally broke like a wave upon the world.
But then who can say what would be built out of the ashes of a world destroyed by grief and rage. And who can say if that world is better, or worse, or if history keeps building layer after layer of the same human sediment.
#he is. a thesis of not being able to destroy the master's house using the master's tools#he learned everything he knows from the people who systematically destroyed his people#that's the point#he destroyed them and then had nothing left but what they taught him#and the fear and the rage and the hatred born of what was done to him#his anger at being dismissed professionally seems outsized? perhaps it's the deferred anger of centuries of generational trauma#maybe it's the grief for people he should have known and the community he should have had#maybe it came from the tension of walking through a park and knowing about the marae burned there on the alter of property values#grief is love with nowhere left to land#and rage is grief with nowhere else to go#I will never be able to hate John#not even after he'd become what he hated#not even when there's another child in front of us who has also lost his culture and his family because of John#and who also comforts himself by playing with dolls and bartering snacks with other similarly effected children#because if I grieve for Kevin then I can also grieve for John#and honestly. Kevin is not real. Kevin's grief is fake#John is of course also not real. and therefore John's grief is also fake#but John's grief is much more real than anything else that world has to offer#and the grief of the people who relate to John. who have the sorrow and the rage inside them that could break the world if it had the power#that's real
book data points for the Adrian Gender Situation:
grace lands on calling rocky "he" because he has a split second of panic in one of their first interactions and thinks "uhhh he or she or oh gosh this species might have a dozen sexes and use pronouns I don't even have words for um uh okay I'll just use 'he' because using 'it' for a sapient creature feels wrong. why does no one talk about how to use pronouns in first contact." personally I find this hilarious because it characterizes grace as being just about Gender Aware enough to conceive of and be cool with the idea of sex and gender existing outside of the socially constructed binary and is probably even down to use neopronouns for people, but also a) he still opts for "he" over "they" and b) is completely unaware that zillions of people are absolutely having fifth dimensional discussions about pronouns and first contact.
grace never refers to adrian by pronouns.
grace thinks of adrian as rocky's spouse specifically, not husband or wife.
there's a tiny bit at the end where grace says if he shined a light out of the clear xenonite of his dome then he could "see an eridian going about his business," meaning he's probably just using "he" as the pronoun for all eridians.
bonus round that doesn't actually come up in the text but is a metatextual thing I think some people are probably missing: "adrian" as a name on its own has a masculine connotation but grace 100% picked it because rocky balboa's girlfriend/wife in the rocky movies is called adriana "adrian" pennino. this genderless rock whom grace probably thinks of as being a he/him married to another genderless he/him is named after a female character who goes by a masculine nickname.
like, do I think andy "I don't do politics" "socially liberal fiscally conservative" weir was knowingly and deliberately doing queer gender things with eridians? no, and it would feel especially absurd to say that when the contemporary scifi novel scene is so full of authors who are doing queer gender things on purpose. I think what's happening here is that weir is competent enough to make his characters gnc agender intersex gay men by accident as a result of being committed to worldbuilding an alien species that feels genuinely alien in its social and physical norms, which is the opposite tack to the "how do I create a scifi allegorical representation of an already existing human queer experience" approach that a lot of other authors take. and I can't say I don't enjoy the idea of a gay little he/they genderless rock spouse with a tomboy name who according to the movie apparently works in aquatic habitat maintenance.
Finding out AI companies are chewing through - literally, they’re pulping and burning them as they go - millions of books often including 1/1s and old texts that cannot be reprinted
Meanwhile there’s always some dipshit telling me AI is the future and we’ve got to just let companies erase human history and literature so they can train their abomination machines to pretend to think like people because a judge said it’s fine
AI companies are buying and scanning printed books for training data, raising copyright and cultural preservation concerns as rare volumes a
Wait I can't believe I haven't talked about my holiday bits on here before. So I work in grocery and I always work holidays and big events that mean we get a ton of tourists in our town and a ton of customers non stop all day. When you work retail on holidays you end up having the same conversations over and over again, so this year I made it a point to choose a bit or a lie for each holiday to keep up for my entire shift that serves solely to mess with customers without them realizing what I'm doing, and ensure I have fun and make myself laugh. Here are the 2026 holiday bits so far:
Memorial day: I pretended I didn't know what it was, and I wanted to see how many customers would correct me if I kept referring to it as "America's birthday". Some people wanted to kill me with hammers for this I wont lie
Easter: I pretended to be catholic and would tell people at the register while making small talk that I gave up lying for lent and couldn't lie again until the new year because it's something I've been meaning to work on (not how lent works) (not catholic) (actively lying about lying)
Valentine's day: I invented a fake boyfriend at the beginning of my shift and wanted to see how developed of a character I could create by the time my shift ended with the rule that I could only add to his lore by telling customers things about him out loud (I have a boyfriend named Jake who surfs and is a photography major at UC Santa Barbara who I was going to celebrate Valentine's day with the following weekend because he's on a camping trip in Big Sur with his surf buddies and I also managed to sneak in that hes lived in 2 houses that burned down and that's where his passion for photography comes from, he wants to preserve his memories)
New years: I decided to tell every customer a different new years resolution but I could only make them up on the spot and couldn't say the same thing twice
Superbowl Sunday: every time someone asked me what team I was rooting for, I would confidently and excitedly say any team I could think of except for the two in the actual Superbowl and whenever someone told me that they weren't in the Superbowl I would look super crushed and disappointed
I hate when people ask me how long it took me to crochet something I’ve made. Frankly, that’s none of my business. I put the yarn on the hook and worked on it whenever the spirit happened to take me to and then one day it was done. How long that process took is between the yarn and god; I want no part of it.
“I’m not Rin. Rin is—”
Abene was powering up the digger control station. Not looking at me, studying the console’s interface in the feed, she said, “Consultant Rin is your supervisor, yes, I’m sorry.”
I'm a bit impressed how hard Abene went "do not look gifted SecUnit in the teeth". I mean. It's clearly "dear, you saved our lives 5 times in last 30 minutes, you can call yourself resurrected Queen Victoria if you want to" kind of agreement. This SecUnit can have all the fictional supervisors it wants
This is the funniest way to word this
Thank you, I tried!
But also, I really think that even if Murderbot provided a lie much less credible than that, she would roll with it anyway.
I mean, she says this:
with her helmet still hanging on a broken tab after SecUnit (coming out from nowhere) yanked her away from a hostile
right after tending to her semi-conscious coworker that said SecUnit retrieved, incurring heavy damage
while her friend bot tends to SecUnit's damage, which SecUnit classifies as "leaking" but probably looks quite gore
friend bot is also damaged after altercation with a person on whom she relied on to protect them all. Damaged and not dead only because SecUnit, expected by a professional security consultant to die in the encounter, won and got back in record time
her arms and skin on the head probably still hurts. In case she needed even more reminders how close to death she got
It's nervous, it's friend-shaped, it's friend-acting, it's incredibly invested in survival of her team, it's her best and only chance to get out alive.
If SecUnit said God sent it personally, Abene would probably start to adress it as a holy messenger without losing a bit. Whatever will calm you down, dear, your actual identity is so much a non-issue right now
(The funniest thing is, if she knew more about SecUnits, she would be seriously considering by now that maybe it was actually sent by God. SecUnits are not supposed to do this kind of shit. SecUnits don't hack proprietary systems smoothly like a hot knife going through butter. SecUnits don't strategize creatively. SecUnits don't fight strategically or skillfully. SecUnits don't change overwhelming weight-class-and-numbers disadvantage into fragile balance. What SecUnits do is follow pre-programmed procedures, secure perimeter and throw themselves on hostiles hoping hostiles run out of working parts first, because that's how SecSystems use them and why give them any more programming over that. This SecUnit is very much non-standard and probability-wise, being sent directly by God wouldn't change much.)
Also, this is a person that raised an innocent trusting bot who never experienced betrayal or hurt from its humans. She actually considers emotional comfort of bots to be important.
Basically, this miraculous nervous SecUnit can have all the fictional supervisors it wants
Then later its revealed that GoodNightLander put out a job offer for "Security Consultant Rin" with vague language to imply a potentially rouge secunit could apply, no problem. Don Abene definitely knew Rin wasn't real and wanted it back anyway. I mean, it took out three combat units, that is insane, of course they would want to hire it again. Also, Abene probably thought a job contract would give a rouge secunit a safe place to go, in case it was on the run and had nowhere safe to run to.
