I'm 28 and I Still Don't Have Any of it Figured Out. ...Scratch That - I blinked and now I’m over 30. Frightening. Mostly here liking random posts. She/They.
On December 10, 1997, Julia Butterfly Hill climbed a 1500-year-old redwood tree she named Luna, to protect the tree from logging. She stayed for 738 days, only climbing down on December 18th 1999 after the tree and surrounding area were granted protection. (Source)
Is this his polite way of saying the wardrobe department gave him a jacket that didn’t fit so he had to roll the sleeves up because they are way too short?
I think that would be a polite way to handle it, but have all his jackets & shirts been ill-fitting? Because the odds of John having rolled up sleeves in any given scene are 95%. Haha. I was so glad she brought that up.

In a move that has sparked outcry from archaeologists, historians and locals, the Peruvian government has approved a multi-billion international airport near the famed site of Machu Picchu, Peru’s single most important tourist destination. Bulldozers have begun to clear millions of tons of earth for the project, which will be located in Chinchero, a picturesque Inca town.
Building the airport in this location will destroy an ancient landscape, one shaped by the Incan people with terraces and routes.
Critics also suggest that planes flying low over the nearby village of Ollantaytambo and its archaeological park filled with ruins and a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces, would cause incalculable damage to fragile Inca ruins there and destroy the peace and beauty of the area.
The new airport will make access to the site much easier, and thus encourage greater numbers than ever before to visit.
But Machu Picchu is already overwhelmed by almost double the limit of tourists as recommended by UNESCO. [see also India’s Taj Mahal - an incredible site simply reeling under a relentless, ineffectively managed tourist, both domestic and international, onslaught]
It’s the constant battle between protecting the past and profiteering from it.
to be completely honest, there is probably nothing anyone can do about this at this point because it has been in the works since the 90’s. as you can most likely tell, our government is a fucking joke. still, this needs international attention. a lot of it. this is my country’s history, culture and one of the most beautiful things we have to offer at risk.
our best bet is at the very least causing somewhat global outrage to spread awareness and perhaps make this into something bigger amongst the middle and upper class people in the central cities as sadly the lower class and indigenous citizens (the majority of the country’s population) go widely ignored by the government and the former (middle and upper class) tend to also ignore shit unless they perceive it as affecting them directly
hi all, palestine’s going through a mass genocide right now and really needs help, here are a few ways you can do that
palestine children’s relief fund: provide urgent humanitarian care for children in gaza
anera: provide on-the-ground emergency relief
united nations relief and works agency: food assistance and emergency physical+mental help
medical aid for palestinians: emergency relief for women and children, psychosocial support, disability help, other medical needs
doctors without borders: medical teams on the ground treating injured palestinians as needed
feel free to add on in the notes, notify me if any of the fundraisers listed arent necessary/actually helpful to donate to, and let me know if anything needs added on/modified
as always, if you cant donate then please share and spread awareness
Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.
If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.
A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.
There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.
There is no plan.
Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.
Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.
We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.
This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.
We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.
People are dying.
People are dying.
People are dying and there is no plan.
More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.
My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.
Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.
But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.
She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.
So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.
Even a small amount of 5 or 7 or 10 of foreign currency will help a lot. Our government has essentially abandoned us. People have turned to social media for help. WhatsApp groups and DMs on twitter/insta is where we find help. Our helpline is a Google doc. Situation is so dire that hospitals are discharging patients due to lack of oxygen. Every night the same story, oxygen running out in hospitals, citizens running around to somehow arrange for oxygen with minutes to spare. Last night, we had manged to get oxygen to a hospital with 14min to spare.
Reblogging with more links. Listen to @groundzero-and-deku ☝️ they know what they're talking about.
Some of you in the US have asked what else you can do. I'm not the best person to answer this since I'm not from there, but I do know that Biden is being urged to ship supplies to India. Maybe a more informed person can chime in with how best you can help but calling your representative and registering your concern sounds like a good starting point.
From one democracy to another, thank you. Please keep this going, you're all amazing.
EDIT: Reblogging with some more donation links from @spacegirlstuff
Here and Here
Y'all, this is a good time to mention that I am not affiliated with any charity or donation centre, and am not receiving donations on behalf of anyone.
This is a list of resources compiled by me and more importantly, other people who have a better grasp on the situation than myself. They are to the best of our knowledge great resources but
I still encourage you to do your research and put your money where you believe it will be used best.
If you find more ways to help or donate, add them in a reblog - let's get as much information out there as possible.
Much love and please stay safe

POLICIJA je riješila slučaj napada na ženu u Zagrebu koji se dogodio krajem veljače.
Why would the judge let them go?? It's been weeks since the attack took place and they've only just been located now and they're free pending trial??? Make it make sense!&
That's still unknown. I am not confident in translating legal jargon to English, but in the original article I believe it says that the public prosecutors' office of Zagreb filed a motion to the county court judge to have the accused remanded due to the danger/likelihood of the offence being repeated, and that the judge denied the motion and allowed them to remain free. The prosecutors' office announced that they will appeal that decision, though. The judge's decision has not been explained, and he has yet to publicly speak out. At this point, we don't even know which judge it was.
This is the link from the video. It’s important that we try to take action. Don’t buy chocolate that may be connected with slavery. In the link there’s also information about slavery free chocolate.

End child labor in the cobalt and cocoa industries.
On chocolate, coffee, tea, other products coming from the global south: if you can afford it, buy only products with some kind of a certificate that demonstrates the product has been ethically produced (and this has been verified by an outside agency), such as the Fairtrade, UTZ or Rainforest Alliance certificate.
But also beware that some producers have made up their own certificates, with no outside oversight. These essentially fake certificates include Cocoa Life, the certificate invented by Mondelez – one of the companies listed behind the link for using slave labour, who stopped using Rainforest Alliance certified cocoa and switched to their own certificate instead.
IMPORTANT ADDITION: The Alabama House bill that will accompany this bill forces teachers and medical professionals to out trans youth to their parents.
THIS WILL KILL TRANS KIDS.
This combination of legislation is The most violent anti-trans legislation to date in the US. If you can do so safely, get out. Get out now. Get your children out. Please.
As that March 3rd CBS article linked above states, I think the bill banning care and making it a felony to provide it has yet to pass the Alabama house, so it’s not law just yet, but it’s unfortunately looking like it has good prospects.
Go back to the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, all these moral panics, all the way to today, the rhetoric has just always been about protecting kids. I’m so fucking tired of it.
“[I]t would be absurd on our part to hold a grudge against the socialist leaders who, finding themselves caught up in the electoral machine, end up being gradually transformed into nothing more than bourgeois with liberal ideas. They have placed themselves in determinate conditions that in turn determine them. The consequences are inevitable.”

I like how, 10 years later, and after huge proven disinformation campaigns, tumblr still hasn’t learned AT ALL to look at a source.
On Feb 23rd, in reaction to news about camps, AOC tweeted this:
In response to this, AOC then received this question from another user, which she answered, and which is being displayed in isolation above:
If you’re not following, AOC went in on how we need to completely revamp our immigration system and fundamentally restructure it away from a carceral state mentality (aka, prison-based).
She was then honest that this is not something that can be done in 2 months, so she called on everyone to keep pushing towards a radical future.
In response to a very specific question about how we should handle children who arrive at the border unattended, while we get this process of revamping the entire system started, AOC’s response was to:
1. Immediately require that only licensed facilities can house children
2. Address the actual question of whether or not these services should be contracted out as they are now (Which AOC just made VERY clear her stance on)
3. Specifically cited the issue of companies who are pushing to reopen (again, her stance on this is clear).
4. Then directly drew attention to a comprehensive framework for legislation which AOC and Rep Jayapal are actively trying to get support for. And the only way we get the support, to drive this kind of radical change, is to underscore that the people have power to make this change, and our activism and support is vital.
STOP LETTING PEOPLE PRESENT INFORMATION OUT OF CONTEXT SO THAT IT IS INCENDIARY AND UNDERMINES THE ACTUAL POLITICAL PUSHES THAT ARE IN YOUR INTEREST AND IN LINE WITH YOUR OWN RADICAL POLITICS.
We’ve been doing this way too freaking long, tumblr.
Fact checking is important, tumblr users. Please look around. Not just politics - I’ve seen so much misinformation and some of it seems harmless, but we are miseducating ourselves about science, about “curiosities” in history.
All I keep thinking about is that post that went around mocking Titanic survivor Katherine Gilnagh (16 at the time) for saying she thought disembarking the ship and getting on the life boats was part of the trip. Yes, she did say something like this but ignoring the entire context. She knew the ship was sinking. People 100 years later ate this trauma victim’s flippant remark up.
TOO OFTEN. Also I’m indecisive and sometimes picking something takes so much time and effort. Maybe I even find streaming something I’ve already watched 100x, but then don’t want to pay attention so there I am with The Good Place or a John Mulaney stand-up special on my tv, and watching Jenny Nicholson on my phone.
Donald Trump’s lawyers argued for years that he couldn’t be sued because he was kinda-sorta president or something
Apparently you don’t actually have to do the job to retain the title. It’s like if you were the curly fry guy at Arby’s and all you did all day was eat the customers’ orders. You’re technically still the fry guy, but all you’re really doing is getting in the way of other people’s lunch.
That was Trump’s presidency, essentially. He used his office as a cudgel and a shield, but when it came time to address actual crises, he was like a Navy SEAL who couldn’t resist lighting his farts during covert missions. But, hey, he got a lot of attention, didn’t he?
Well, it looks like he might get some more soon because, in case you hadn’t heard, he’s not president anymore.
The Supreme Court decided Monday that they were high court justices and not mob assets on the Trump payroll—clearing the way for the release of the tax returns Trump jealously guards like Jeffrey Dahmer guarded his refrigerator. Soon after, this fun little Reuters story dropped into my lap.
Author and journalist E. Jean Carroll has been waiting for her day in court ever since Trump’s legal team argued the former pr*sident was too weighted down with important papers (i.e. Filet-O-Fish wrappers) to be sued. And she’s hoping that day comes soon.
Her lawyers are seeking to depose Trump in a defamation lawsuit that Carroll filed against the former president in November 2019 after he denied her accusation that he raped her at a Manhattan department store in the mid-1990s. Trump said he never knew Carroll and accused her of lying to sell her new book, adding: “She’s not my type.” […]
“I am living for the moment to walk into that room to sit across the table from him,” Carroll told Reuters in an interview. “I think of it every day.”
I can’t say I think of Carroll’s case every day; there are a lot of cars on the careening comeuppance caravan to focus on. But given Trump’s aggressive misogyny and wide-ranging sociopathy, a ruling against him in this particular lawsuit would be pretty sweet.
Carroll attorney Roberta Kaplan is confident the case will move forward, now that the ocher suzerain has been tossed from his throne room. “I think there will be a sense among the judges that it’s time to get a move on in these cases,” Kaplan told Reuters.
Oh, and in case you forgot, there’s probably DNA.
When Carroll filed her lawsuit later in 2019, her lawyer, Kaplan, had a guard escort her to retrieve the dress from her closet for forensic testing. An analysis concluded no semen was found on the dress, but the DNA of an unidentified male was detected on the shoulder and sleeves, according to the Jan. 8, 2020 lab report, which was reviewed by Reuters.
Well, isn’t that interesting?
Of course, Carroll isn’t the only one suing Trump for defamation over one of his serial sexual assault denials. Summer Zervos, a former contestant on The Apprentice who accused Trump of sexual assault in 2016, is waiting in the wings as well.
Let’s hope Trump experiences his own 500 days of Summer. And of Carroll. And of the Southern District of New York.
Now that he’s not pretending to be president anymore, he should have plenty of time to face the music/cacophony.
