Website Dev Log - 01

I don't feel like I belong anywhere,

so I will build myself a home.

Somewhere no one will find me,

made from nothing but logs and stone.

I'm making a Neocities website! Why? Mostly because I can. I've been getting better at web dev in the pursuit of my latest passion project (which is another website, albeit a much simpler one) and now that my abilities have improved I must torture myself with them. My ideas for this site are big, but hopefully something I can manage. I want to have things like blogposts and an art gallery, alongside a "museum" for my past projects. Something like this is definitely going to take a long time, especially with everything I have to learn about the culture surrounding Neocities so I can make my website fit in accordingly.

When all is said and done, maybe I'll start using it full-time. I wouldn't want to create something of this scale just to do literally nothing with it! Ha.

Anyway, I've got some art finished for it already. I've got a lot of assets I want to draw by hand, which is the easy part so I can do as much as I want first.

You will hurt people. You either learn it the hard way or not but regardless how you learn it. It is okay, really. As a wise friend of mine says you are not defined by a single trait, by a single breakdown or by a single fight. Give yourself grace for your self-destructive tendancies because getting more frustrated will only worsen them. i see people talking about how at uni (especially in australia) people really aren’t as social or open to making friends which is a shame but i have decided i’m going to be a beacon of joy and whimsy and get out of my little hermit shell and try to attract people that like my weird energy

Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.

I also think that the present era has proven that authoritarian leaders don't actually want a population of wide-eyed idealists, they want a population of jaded assholes who are convinced that everyone is lying, any resistance is either a scam or doomed to failure, and nothing can ever get better.
