I'm all out of elegant well-phrased thoughts. Anyone else think Ilya "gonna butter him up so he stays" Rozanov sucked Shane off on the countertop when Shane got to his house in episode four? To Ilya, Shane is the funniest, sexiest, bitchiest and downright FREAKIEST person he knows. He tells everyone he knows this, yet for some reason no one seems to believe him. His husband is such an asshole, and Ilya loves him for it.
While to Shane, Ilya is his soft and most precious baby. A heart of gold and with feelings so wide and deep he is breathless at just how much he CARES. Sunshine itself. This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.
I have been thinking about the post that said one of the biggest blow up arguments they have as a couple is Ilya opening up about taking care of his mom on her bad days and Shane saying you shouldnât have had to do that you were a kid. like itâs been replaying in my head on a fucking loop. Itâs really so⌠cuz like. Okay well first of all Ilya is saying it in a way of like. It was honor to have been able to care for his mama. Heâs so thankful to have those memories even if they hurt. Heâs so taken off guard by the idea that he shouldnât have been doing that (not what Shane said) that it sounds very cruel and callous to him when thatâs absolutely not what Shane was trying to convey. Ilya would so mad about it and so so unwilling to want to share things about his mama with Shane after like he doesnât want Shane to judge his mom in any sort of way because any judgement on Irina trickles back down to him because heâs just like her in all the worst ways. Like he would hear âyour mom shouldnât have done that to you.â Which immediately translates back to him as âyou shouldnât do it to me. Itâs unfair to make me take care of you.â and more than anything he just never wants to paint a bad picture of his mama. He wants Shane to love her without knowing her, because heâll never know her, and thatâs devastating enough. He has to love her. Ilya has to portray her and represent her in a way so that he loves her. and poor Shane truly was just sad for baby Ilya. He doesnât think any less of Irina itâs just factual to him that Ilya should not have had to do that. He was a kid. he means it in the way of I wish Irina hadnât been sick I wish you could have more memories of your mama taking care of you. Iâm sorry. You were just a kid and Iâm so sorry. And thatâs not what Ilya hears at alllllllllll
shane really loves when heâs on top and heâs slowly grinding and really feeling himself and getting lost in the sensation of being full and he opens his eyes to look down at ilya and ilya has his hands behind his head with his big biceps just budging out each side of his head and his armpit hair on full display and his pupils are blown wide and heâs slightly opened mouthed with a small smile on his lips watching shaneâs face and just taking in how much shane is enjoying having his cock inside him.
honestly when you remember that tlg was meant to be reidâs last book and that she is experiencing a degenerative disease it all totally totally makes sense and i get really defensive of her. she so clearly cares about this, she so clearly considers it an important part of herself, and of course she wanted to end on a positive note. of course she wanted love to save the day. this is her public work and what she has to ultimately say as an author. like i think in a very real way this is about what she wants to publically leave behind and i think that dimension gets missed so often in critique
Thereâs a blog post on her website pre-tlg where sheâs talking to fans about a possible hollanov sequel, and I was struck by how she was unsure who would publish it and if she even could get someone to publish it. And this is a moderately successful author who already had four books. Itâs so difficult to be commercially published and hold onto any success or longevity in the current state of affairs. But TLG is already 150 pages longer than a typical romance, even her other books. She clearly wanted to do them justice and loves these characters and their stories. Doesnât mean you canât critique her and that there arenât flaws with her writing. It can also just not be to your taste and thatâs fine. But I just think sheâs acting in good faith, despite fumbles in many arenas.
Even doing a second book for the same couple is unusual in the kind of romance she's writing. Most romance novel series are series in the sense that they're ensemble casts (like a hockey team) and every book focuses on a different pairing with the other characters as supporting actors. The whole point of the romance novel is that you get an HEA and the HEA is SACRED. You can't have your book 1 couple confide to your book 4 couple that they're having marital problems because that breaks the contract with the reader. I don't know how Rachel Reid convinced them to publish a sequel in a publishing environment where sequels are just not a thing and I'm sure if it wasn't for the breakout success of the TV adaptation, she definitely wouldn't have gotten a third one. TLG is an outlier and she's so clearly trying to hold up her end of the HEA contract and make sure that there's absolutely no doubt that these characters will be happy together.
whenever i see fics where cliff steals âjaneâsâ number to text about ilya or to add âherâ to a groupchat with the boston team, ive never seen one where it is the adding janeâs number to the groupchat that outs shane and ilya (at least only to the boston team). bc you cannot convince me that at least one of the guys on the boston team does not have The Shane Hollanderâs phone number. theyâve either gotten his number from junior hockey days or bc Shane Hollander is yuna and david hollanderâs son, so he is incredibly professional and networks like thats what he was actually trained to do. (plus the hockey world is small)
