"aros can still date!!": boring. tired. overused. frequently used to make aros look more palatable and acceptable to amatonormative society.
"alloros can still stay single!!": fresh. new. exciting. hearing it could change many people's lives for the better regardless of romantic orientation
letting a traumatized character have their happy ending where they can recover from their trauma will always be a thousand times more powerful than killing them off for shock value
The Character will literally have you saying shit like "shes literally my special princess. she can do 9/11 as many times as she wants"
if you tag this as a man im killing you btw
Chris is the one who finds Buck sitting alone in the kitchen at 2am in the dark, save for the light under the cabinets. He has a glass of whiskey, though Chris wonders where Buck has been keeping his alcohol.
"Hey buddy," Buck says, voice low and even. He picks up his glass and takes a sip. "You need water?"
"Yeah, I got thirsty," Chris says quietly.
Buck nods at him to sit, so Chris sits and waits while Buck fills a glass of water for him.
"How are you holding up?" Chris asks when Buck returns to his perch. "I know... I know you were close with Bobby."
A tight smile flickers over Buck's face, and then he sighs. "I'll be okay, eventually."
"But now?"
Chris waits, taking slow sips of his water. Los Angeles water and Texas water taste different.
It's several minutes before Buck replies, "Some seconds are easier to bear than others."
Chris moves to the chair closer to Buck. When he puts a hand on Buck's knee, Buck blinks at him. He looks tired, genuinely exhausted, since the first day Chris met him.
"When Mom died," Chris says, "I kept thinking someone was gonna admit that it was a hoax. That she'd show up at the door with some store bought brownies."
Buck's big blue eyes glimmer.
Chris shrugs. "So I get it. Some seconds are harder than others. Like you're stuck in a dream you wanna wake up from, but can't."
Something complicated passes over Buck's face, like he's trying to control whatever emotion he's feeling from showing, but in the end he just covers his face with one big hand and a thick, damp sob crawls out of his throat.
His own heart aching, Chris stands and moves next to his friend to hug him. Buck lets Chris hold him as he weeps, occasional apologies croaked out between his harsh intakes of air.
Chris pets him on the back of his head, suddenly reminded of that terrifying day on the pier. He doesn't tell Buck that it will become easier; he knows that Buck knows.
He's just glad he's the one who found Buck in the middle of the night. Because he knows what it's like to lose a parent.
If you're reading this you need to tell me the name of your favorite black character NOW‼️
You’re a daycare worker, watching over toddlers, when the imminent end of the world is announced. It becomes increasingly clear none of the kids’ parents are going to show up as the end inches nearer.
[Audio starts]
“Mom has been texting me for the last twenty minutes. She wants me to come home. It’s a four hour drive, when the roads are clear, and from what I hear everybody is trying to get somewhere right now. There’s no telling if I’d even-”
“Everybody else has left. All the other kids were picked up, the other staff left. They gave me all the keys. I promised to stay and wait for as long as- well. Even if some of the parents show up, I guess some of them won’t, so I’m just waiting. Until.”
[Clears throat.]
“A couple of people came after everybody left. Peter, one of Aidan’s fathers, gave me three hundred dollars for staying. What am I going to do with money? It’s- anyway. I kind of get it. He wanted to give me something.”
[Audio ends]
[Audio starts]
“They’re all between 2 and 4.” Sniff. “They’re so little. Too little to really- maybe if they were older, I’d have to tell them something. But um. I’m just- trying to stay calm and keep them happy and occupied. I think that’s the best thing, right now.”
[Heaving breaths.]
“I normally use this recorder to help me remember stuff. It’s just, uh, habit to talk to it. I don’t know. They’re napping, right now. I’ve got the baby monitor, they know that if they talk into it, I’ll come, so-”
[Sobbing.]
[Audio ends]
[Audio starts]
“Mom keeps texting, so I blocked her. I sent her a text telling her goodbye, first, but. I do. But these kids need me.”
[Sniff.]
“I tried calling their parents again, but I can’t get anybody. It’s just busy signals. I called the firefighter station, 911. I can’t get through to anybody.”
[Shaky breath.]
“I went out into the yard. Um, I think they can play. It’s nice out, and you can’t really see it yet. Little bit of a glimmer, if they ask I’ll just tell them it’s a plane, but it’s nice out and we’ve got hours before-”
[Murmuring child’s voice, indistinguishable.]
[Audio ends]

BATHENA FAVORITE MOMENTS: Their First Meeting
could we talk about how Maddie became the Dispatch's favorite? Josh is her trainer but becomes her bestie within 2 episodes. Sue trusts her and adores her even when Maddie is still learning. Linda plays pranks on Josh with her. even Gloria feels embarrassed and grateful after their entire mess is over and Maddie stays on the line during Gloria's accident. Athena comes to Maddie any time she needs an ally at Dispatch. Hen comes to Maddie when she needs help with detecting the cruise ship. Maddie sends out the first warning through Chim when Dispatch is taken hostage. Sue trusts her to take charge with coordinating during the tsunami. May talks to Maddie when she first wants to join Dispatch. from thinking she was just passing through LA and she couldn't settle down or work as a nurse to becoming a pillar of Dispatch who has saved herself and others as many times as it takes. what a journey, truly.

i think we should bring this back (with some amendments ofc) if we ever needed an "internet etiquette" for the younger generations, now is the moment to remind them. purity culture kills fandom
as well as the three laws of fandom:
Don't Like, Don't Read (DL;DR), Your Kink is not My Kink And That's OK (YKINMKATO) and Ship and Let Ship
📣 Purity culture kills fandom! 📣
NO ONE LIVING hasn't been squicked out by something. There's over 7 billion of us, my delights and disgusts aren't universal. So I move on. Don't like the ship? Move on. Don't like____? Move on.
I am not an exception. Neither are you. I don't like it I move on and shut my gob about it because everyone everywhere is squicked out by something and they need to put the thing down and just…motor.
This but also:
Frames this entire post and hangs it over the fireplace.
having online friends who are busy is just like. I LOVE YOU. I miss you. YOU GOT THIS. I'm giving you space to work. I LOVE YOU.

not every mutual fits neatly into an archetypal medievalism but there are some mutuals that im like yeah addressing you as “my liege” would come strangely naturally
what mutual is prev
my liege lord
my loyal knight
my wise wizard
my evil advisor
my brother in arms
my lady muse
my wild mermaid friend
my fellow alchemist
my dashing rapscallion
my monstrous foe
i really could write an essay on how shit is that we’ve completely abandoned the monster-of-the-week episode format even when rebooting shows that relied on it to replace them with grimdark edgy plotlines where nothing feels good or accomplished at the end of the day
#EXACTLY #WHY DO PEOPLE HATE MONSTER OF THE WEEK?#IT’S MY FAVORITE STORYTELLING FORMAT#IT’S THE MOST CHARACTER DRIVEN FORMAT WHEN DONE PROPERLY IMO#the best monster of the week episodes show us something new about the characters
I think you can expand Monster of the Week format, more generally, to Guy Of The Week. Because this format also works for detective stories, medical dramas, lawyer procedurals, what have you. The point is that every week there is a new Guy and the new Guy brings a new Situation
ngl i feel like some of the abby hate has to be coming from ppl who have never experienced caretaker burnout. i was the primary caretaker for my grandma when she was in hospice at home, and sometimes i thought horrible shit because i was just so fucking burnt out from doing almost all of it entirely on my own. the nurses were great, but the lack of family support (which was there, but only barely) hurt.
abby's a messy character (like everyone on this show) but i love her for it!! is everything she does great? fuck no but literally every single character has done something shitty (with the exception of jee-yun and robert han ig lmao good job two tiny children, one of which was just born) in some degree and i'm honestly tired of all of buck's love interests getting the worst hate for not being perfect people when abby + taylor + tommy are all compelling characters and i love them for their messiness
I SUPPORT WOMEN'S WRONGS
I’m curious—how is everyone marking their pages in books?
Dog-earing the page
Using a bookmark for it’s intended purpose
Using things that aren’t bookmarks as bookmarks
Marking the page with the dust jacket flap
Something I forgot to put here (put it in the tags!)
