The sign many left wingers have subconsciously accepted moving right on covid and embraced lowering public health standards is when people seem to think “masks should be mandatory in healthcare settings /airplanes “ is somehow a radical position to take in an ongoing pandemic
its so fucking weird because "masks in healthcare" should be the default all of the time. Doctors and nurses are literally employed to go from sick person to sick person, treating immunocompromised people especially often.
It should have been mandatory BEFORE covid

Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
I want you to understand this. I NEED you to understand this. My mother read me the hobbit as bedtime story, and I started pushing myself to read before pre-school so I could in fact read the hobbit for myself instead of having to wait for bedtime.
I didn't do so right away but jesus wept I PUSHED myself to learn to read SPECIFICALLY so I could read The Hobbit! It is, in fact, a children's story! And children only see page count as 'there is a lot of this fun story to read!'

Being an adult will have you unironically sad about a parasite outbreak in fresh vegetables.
Transfemme eggs are still absorbing all the toxic and oppressive propaganda about how women are ‘supposed’ to be even before their self-realization, the major difference between them and their cis counterparts being that they are almost unilaterally incapable of living up to even the bare minimum of those expectations and usually have their self-worth shredded to pieces as a result
Oh so THAT'S why I felt that I looked awful, daaaamn. Finally I figured out what they meant by transmisogyny hurting trans women even before they figure it out!!
This sort of thing is the tip of the iceberg. Once you know to look for it, you see it rearing its ugly head in so many places
xena gave us trans drag lesbianism as a treat
There are layers to this. Earlier in the episode, Xena discovers her secret while they're sharing a locker room. A woman she has got naked with turned out to be trans. It's the exact scenario terfs are always fear-mongering about, but Xena just shrugs it off.
Also, the kiss was a big deal not just because it was gay but because the trans actress was HIV positive. They wanted to show the world that you can't contract HIV just from kissing someone. Bear in mind, the AIDS crisis was still fresh on people's minds in the 90s.
Happy Pride.
It's important to note that Chekhov's Gun was not originally about foreshadowing, but a piece of advice to playwrights about how every element in a play should have narrative relevance. The corollary to Chekhov's Gun is that if a gun mounted on the wall in act 1 is never used at all in the entirety of the play, then it should be omitted from the play entirely.
also very true
Idk, I kinda feel like "because it's (im)polite/rude" is not a good way to explain social norms to a child (or an adult for that matter).
Like. As a kid, when asking why I needed to look people in the face when talking, I would prefer "Because people communicate with their faces, too, and if we can't see if you're smiling or frowning it's difficult to see how you feel." or "If you're not looking at someone while they're talking, some people might think you're not paying attention if they don't know you very well yet." over "Because it's impolite to let your eyes wander."
I'd prefer "It's polite to take your shoes off in other people's house because you might have dirt under them and they don't want to have to vacuum." over "It's rude to leave your shoes on."
Hell, I'd even take "There's no real reason to do XYZ, but if you don't, this man will think it's impolite of you and be mad, so let's humour him for a bit so we don't get into an argument."
i keep talking about wanting to go to bars and shit with my cis friends and they say "yeah let's go to a lesbian bar" and i say "okay but are they cool with the trannies" and they say "probably:)" and i don't say it but i'm thinking. are you sure. i don't think you're sure.
things like that happen a lot i think, where people just underestimate yk, everything about transmisogyny. and my friends mean well it's just i don't think you're sure. so idk, if you're cis and you got some transfem friends, it's probably worse than you think. fun thought.
This is transfeminism!
-> listening to a jaunty country style song -> hear the lyrics wrong -> pause. frown. go back a few seconds to relisten -> hears the same fucked up lyrics -> check the actual lyrics to see what it ACTUALLY says
-> oh!
And then you can’t even say shit about bc people start trying to put you in a jacket and shit. Like omg it’s so strict???
This is so real
