So, Supernatural takes a turn in quality for the worse after S5, we all know that.

You may like what the ten seasons that came after it, but the drop is still there. It simply was never the same.

And I think that one of the main reasons for it, that I don't see many people mentioning, is that they switched Dean from the secondary lead to the actual main lead.

Seasons 1 – 5 were all about Sam, and what is wrong with him. Dean's presence was strong, specially in S3, but he always had a secondary role.

Seasons 6 – 15 switch things around and now Dean is the main character, and Sam gets relegated to second or even third lead, when they really wanted to push the queer bating with Castiel.

Once I read someone saying that the Sam Winchester that went down to Hell in Season 5 never resurfaced and couldn't agree more.

So, I just watched the second episode of SPN season 3. And I honestly hate it with my guts.

Some episodes where already a hard watch for me because of the way some characters (mainly Dean, but some others too) treat women. I've come to the conclusion it's more of a problem of the writers being sexist, then the characters themselves, but still...

(yes, I'm aware that there's some good woman who genuinely kick ass, but most of them were written off as someone's affair)

I'm not saying that S03xE02 is the worst or more misogynistic episode of all, it isn't. But most of its "jokes" aged so poorly I had to comment, in fact, some of it I'm socked it was even considered "okay" back then.

Let's address it: I hate Lisa's son, Ben. Fuck God, if they really wanted to give Dean a kid scare, it should have been a daughter. But anyway, we got Ben, most of his scenes are supposed to be Dean's mini-me, which is summarized to: One mention of AC/DC, violence, playing with a car at the end of the episode and objectifying woman.

Keep in mind that this fucker is Eight Years Old. He's introduction scene is literally him and Dean staring at some girls' asses. They're talking about "attracting lots of hot chicks". He is seen cornering a girl and hitting on her at his birthday party.

I've always hated that episode and, honestly, anything to do with Lisa. The whole situation with her is just fucking gross.

Dean shows up at her house after a horny weekend a DECADE ago, and she just lets him in? That's not charming, that's good damn creepy. She could have been married, for fucks sake. Either way, he had no single fucking right to go stalk her.

And there's how he uses her at the end of season 5. Clearly her only reason for existing is to make you feel better about yourself Dean. Clearly. After all, he only waited two years to go back, after he's lost everything, and needs someone to take care of him.

Ugh, yeah, I've got a lot of feelings about the Lisa situation. Like, dude, leave her the fuck alone.

In the end, she and Ben get their memories wiped so they don't remember Dean and can't be used as leverage against him.

Like, dude, YOU STILL CARE ABOUT THEM! They can still be kidnapped and be used against you, regardless of them knowing what's going on or not! They're still in danger! In fact, it'd be much safer if they knew that they're in danger and knew who to ask for help if something happens!

One of Dean's main traits is “asshole”. There's usually no problem with that, because you get where he's coming from and the writers are aware of that most of the time and sometimes they aren't and I wanna strangle Dean-

The problem is that the unstable younger brother with the protective older brother, who's sometimes an asshole, works.

The asshole older brother with the sidelined unrevealing younger brother, does not.

I think the ONLY thing that upsets me about ao3 is that sometimes (rarely) people who write cnc and rape and stuff like that don’t properly tag their posts. I was reading peacefully thinking “oh this is just regular smut!” And then suddenly it goes to “GROPE HER!!!! KILL HER!!!! AAAAAA!!! I NEED BLOOD!!!”

Wasn’t even a vampire fic, which I get, but still, they should tag their fics responsibly.

I see tagging as courtesy, not responsibility. also if an author chooses “creator chose not to use archive warnings” then that is already enough even if they don’t tag rape/non-con.

but overall tagging is not a responsibility. it’s nice and thoughtful, and I encourage writers to tag their works properly. but it’s still not a rule or a responsibility. worth mentioning that if you go to a library or a bookstore, most books there are not tagged at all. so if anything, I see tagging on ao3 as a privilege the site provides. but if writers choose not to tag their stuff then that is still well within their rights. I may be bothered, but at the end of the day I must acknowledge that there’s always a possibility of me stumbling upon things I dislike on the internet, and that’s okay. I can just close the tap, I can just click away from it any time I want.

I am sorry, but I have to disagree. Tagging trigger warnings IS a responsibility. Or at least tag it as "Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings".

I do agree that tagging other stuff (fluff, angst, au etc) is a courtesy and you are not at all obligated to do, you are still responsible for the work you put out on the world. We, as a community, cannot be out here defending the old saying "Don't Like It, Don't Read It" if we are not letting them know what "it" is. We are here, talking about how the new fans from TikTok have to learn the Fandom Etiquette and "respect the house", but it's a two way road. Fandom Etiquette, you tag your work. So the people who don't like it, don't read it.

Again, "Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings" is 1000% valid if you truly do not want to tag it.

If you click on a Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings fanfiction and find rape, well...

But if you click on a fanfiction without the "Rape/Non-Con" and without "Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings" warnings, you are going to assume you are safe.

Movies 1 and 2 were Robin Hood Magicians movies. And they were fucking good. There's no excuse for bad writing.

I think you answered it yourself. I personally hated the new characters, and on the case of Bosco, he's just a washed out version of Daniel. That why the dislike for them, they lack originality.

Like, June (Josie? Jolie? I watched the movie in cinema, so I saw it in my local dub, they say her name different in every scene) is the most stereotypical character ever. She is just one more of the long line of "Hollywood sucks at attempting to write 'female strong characters"", and they are all exactly the same. You know what I'm talking about, there's a thousand video essays about that on YouTube, pick your favorite. I despise her.

Charlie-and-the-plot-twist-everyone-saw-a-kilometer-away. They really couldn't write one original plotline huh? Ctrl C + Ctrl V of Dylan's plot in the first movie lol + a sprinkle of Cruella (2021) — the true plot twist would have been if he actually died when Veronika shot him, and Bosco and June had to deal with that in panic mode while on stage.

They also had to nerf Daniel and Merritt to make the new kids shine?? Hello, Hollywood, please never do that again??

There's a million things wrong with NYSM3, the problem goes way beyond the kids, you can smell that that's a script that got stuck in Development Hell for a decade. There so many plot holes and things that were obv meant to be important and never came back. You can taste in your tongue the writes and rewrites that the script must have been through, it clearly chopped up and glued back together. In that case, I wish they had just trashed the script and started a fresh new one instead of trying to recycle ideas.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish Bosco, Charlie and June to never come back. I know they unfortunately will, and I can't stop it watch me fanfic them out for existence

Not me having to canonized Rory Gilmore (or at least her actress) as Sam Winchester's girlfriend in my fanfiction.

It's set pre-series and I'm using Gilmore Girls scene packs for young Jared Padalecki (my head hurts every time they call him "Dean", it's funny though). Most of his scenes seem to have her, so she's going to have to be here now.

Also, I have no prior knowledge of Gilmore Girls whatsoever, watching these scenes with no context and stitching them together is funny as hell.

(I kinda want to make a fic where Dean (spn) and John go out for a hunt and leave teen Sam alone [we know that used to happen sometimes], so, perhaps out of boredom, Sam pretends to be Dean and flirt with girls and that's how we got Dean Forester. People who have actually watched Gilmore, tell me how little sense that'd make. I'm sorry, not sorry 🙃)
