Headcanon Jake used to call Loak 'baby boy' the same way he calls Kiri 'baby girl. It started when Loak was born, but Jake stopped when the sky people came back.
From then on, Loak was only a soldier exept for every now and then when Jake would treat him like his son but it was only when he was in trouble.
After the events of Fire and Ash Jake trying to rebuild his relationship with Loak, he can't see why Loak is so hesitant until Kiri tells Jake about Loaks' attempt at suicide and Jake figures out pretty quick when it happened and the guilt hits him faster then a train.
Jake then sits in their house, looking back at every interaction with Loak before and after that, and realises his mistakes as a father. Loak, oblivious to this happening, is very confused when he walks into the house to see his dad crying and is even more confused when his dad all but picks him up with how hard he's hugging him. Jake then apologises for everything he said and did and promises to do better.
Loak eventually gets his dad to calm down and explain why he just attacked him with affection, and he finds out Kiri ratted him, but he was not mad. His dad is acting like the father from his childhood again, so he can't complain.
