"That is the last time I'm working as a camp counselor!"
"I'm surprised you did that at all."
"Caishen talked me into it. Da-xia too."
Wukong set a large plate of snacks down in the center of their dining table. It was rare for Red Son to have friends over, but his parents never minded when he did.
They somewhat verbally fumbled over each other telling Nezha about their experiences at camp the past week. They tried to give each other space to talk, though.
From what Wukong gathered, the boys cabins were little more than glorified communal tents while the girls got cabins that were more adjacent to full houses.
Red Son and Caishen weren't exactly thrilled about it.
Caishen: Don't get me wrong, I enjoy roughing it, but having to take a mile-long walk to the main campus was a pain. Especially before meals.
RS: And don't even get us started on the boy's bathrooms!
Caishen: Gods, it was so bad.
RS: The campus and the bathrooms were so much worse than when we went there as campers last year!
Caishen: I considered peeing in a bush a few times.
DX: *sips her tea* That's rough, buddy.
Caishen: *sarcastically* You think?
Nezha: Was there anything you all actually enjoyed at least a little bit?
Caishen: Hanging out with the campers was honestly the best part. I got good kids.
RS: Honestly, I did too. As much as I complain, it was more the circumstances than the actual job that I hated. Those boys had quite good heads on their shoulders.
DX: The kids were my favorite part too. I got to hug my littlest every morning and it would make my day every time.
RS: My- I think he was the second eldest camper in my group? Anyway, I was helping him with his archery skills and he did so good! I was so proud of him.
Caishen: Yeah, my pipsqueaks were doing great at some of the stuff they had there. They were disappointed by the lack of a zipline, though.
DX: So were my girls! The pool times didn't help much, either.
RS: Took too long taking the swim test and ran out of time to play, huh?
DX: Yep *pops*
RS: Same here.
Caishen: Food was... decent, I guess?
DX: If it wasn't cross-contaminated, that is.
RS: Oh right, you had an allergic reaction halfway through, didn't you?
DX: Yeah, still have a bit in my system. So forgive me if you run out of tissues while I'm here.
SWK: Would you like more tea, sweetie? I can brew up some that'll help you!
DX: That sounds good, yes please. *slides her teacup over to him*
SWK: I'll go make you some.
~~~
RS: So there we are, lost in the dark looking for a location that none of us had on any of our maps, by the way, and I start wondering if we're even still on the campgrounds-
SWK: Dinner's ready!
RS: Already?
Caishen: Yeah, we've been talking here a while. We might need to head back soon.
SWK: If it's getting too late, you guys can stay the night, it's no problem!
DX: I gotta head home after dinner. My parents will be mad I missed curfew.
Caishen: Still? You're an adult now!
DX: Try telling them that! It's always "you have to act more mature and make better decisions" and "you can't do that, you listen to me, I'm the parent"! Ugh. I've almost saved up enough to move out, though.
Nezha: You can move into Heaven if you'd like. We're not short on housing at it wouldn't be too difficult to get you proper citizenship since you already work here.
Caishen: Maybe we can be roommates! I've been looking into moving closer to work too! Hey, Red, you want in?
RS: Well, I was planning on getting a place of my own here. Still have yet to talk to my fiance about it, though.
SWK: Still? Peony, you ought to talk to him!
RS: I know, but I keep getting distracted by whatever he ends up rambling about in the moment. Plus I still have yet to tell him you're well again.
SWK: Well, you'd better get on that or I will. I know you said you wanted to be the one to tell him, but I don't want to keep Pigsy waiting by proxy.
Nezha: Set up a meeting with him! Wukong and I do that when we want to talk about important plans.
SWK: Just be sure your partner knows they're not in trouble and that you just want to plan stuff with them. Nearly scared the life out of my husband the first time I did.
Nezha: Can confirm that!
RS: Okay, I'll do just that. I'm sure you'll know when it happens because MK rarely keeps information to himself for long.
SWK: I'm sure Pigsy will give me an earfull the second he finds out.
~~~
Pigsy: *over the phone* WADAYA MEAN YOU'VE GOT BETTER MONTHS AGO AND I'M ONLY FINDING OUT NOW??????!!!!!!!!
SWK: I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I just had enough of people fussing over me! I didn’t want to be smothered again.
Pigsy: *sighs* Okay, that's fair. But at the very least, let me throw you a victory dinner. On the house. You've earned it.
SWK: Okay, okay! But just our group, okay?
Pigsy: Just our group. No one else. Promise.
SWK: Good. I look forward to it.
~~~
Pigsy: I SAID "JUST A DINNER"!!!! THAT'S WHAT I TOLD WUKONG!!!!!!
Sandy: We know, Pigsy. And we won't invite anyone else. Promise. But c'mon! This is a reason to celebrate! We've been waiting for this for ages! Wukong even longer.
Mei: I'm thinking a biiiiiiiiig banner saying "FUCK YOU D.A.V.E.!!!!" written all over it!
MK: And T-shirts! Please let's have T-shirts!
Mei: You got it, Monkey Man!
Sandy: Way ahead of you both! *gets T-shirts out of seemingly nowhere*
Tang: *looks at one of the t-shirts* Wow! You really thought ahead on this, didn't you, Sandy?
"I leave them on "go ask your Baba" for one day and their car gets flipped?!"
"Seems like it."
Kang triple-checked the security footage from the library. Sure enough, it truly looked like an accident. Another drunk driver going off the rails behind the wheel.
Erlang wasn't too convinced, though.
Erlang: Call me superstitious, but it feels like our son and son-in-law befall misfortune more often than to be a coincidence.
Kang: We haven't been able to find any connections between this and any other bad event in their lives, but yeah, I see your point. Those two seem to have more than just bad luck.
Erlang: And I've looked at them with my third eye numerous times. Neither of them are cursed in any capacity!
Kang: Those two can't seriously be that unfortunate, can they?
Erlang: *rubs his forehead* I really don't know at this point.
~~~
Muzha: I don't know what disturbs me more: that stuff like this is a regular occurrence for you two or that neither of you seem to care!
Nezha: You get used to it after a while.
SWK: Honestly, I'm just glad no one in our family got hurt.
Muzha: But isn't that a lot to deal with?!
Nezha: Why do you think my hair went white?
Muzha: ... fair enough.
SWK: I hope we didn't disturb your father-son time with Erlang.
Muzha: You didn't. We had a pretty good time. I enjoyed it.
~~~
Erlang offered for the younger couple to stay with him for the night, to which Nezha and Wukong agreed. This was probably the first time Muzha had heard the two have a conversation about anything relatively normal or relationship related.
SWK: Do you want to purchase the new car solo or using our joint account? I'm fine with either, but I'm not the driver here.
Nezha: I think I'll use my account. I have enough on my own without needing to break into savings.
Nezha: Do you have any opinions on what type of vehicle I get?
SWK: Why would I? I don't know anything about cars and again, I can't drive.
Nezha: Not even an opinion on the color?
SWK: ... You know me too well.
Nezha: You say that like it's a bad thing! Now, color preferences?
SWK: As long as it's not some bland neutral color, I'm satisfied. Seriously, what's with companies turning all of the buildings and vehicles various shades of gray?! Ew!
SWK: It's like the world got sucked dry of all signs of life. Disgusting.
Muzha: *awkwardly looks around the black-and-gray walls*
SWK: *turns to Muzha* Before you say anything, Erlang and co have a reason their house looks the way it does.
Muzha: Yeah, I always felt a bit weird to go from neutral colors and then see Nezha's room and it's just...
Muzha, Nezha, & SWK: Pink!
Nezha: I like keeping with the lotus theme.
SWK: His favorite color is blue!
Muzha: Blue? Not orange?
SWK: Why would it be orange?
Nezha: Mushroom, you're orange!
SWK: Oh, yeah! *giggles*
Nezha: You do look very good in blue, which is why I like it so much. It really brings out your eyes and fur.
SWK: Awww! *blushes*
Nezha: It does!
~~~
Erlang leaned on the doorframe and watched Muzha look around the room.
Muzha: You really want this room to be mine? I can fill it with my own stuff?
Erlang: *nods* This can be your room, just as Nezha has his and Jinzha and Jinka will have theirs eventually. You can do as see fit with the space.
Muzha: This room has a full bed, and I can keep it?
Erlang: Absolutely. If you need sheets the proper size or comforters, I can get you those, no problem at all.
Muzha: Really?
Erlang: Yes. And a desk, nightstand or any other furniture you'd like in here. Whatever you'd like, I will provide.
Muzha: ... Thank you.
~~~
Muzha fluffed up the pillows and set them just right on the bed. Muzha had only ever had twin sized beds in his father's house, and while he had a queen size in his own house, a full size still felt like a huge upgrade from what he grew up with.
Nezha and Jinzha had been given queen and full sized beds in their father's house respectively. Father argued that the two "moved in their sleep more" so they got bigger beds.
Nezha would always wind up halfway across the room anyway, so what was even the point? And Muzha fell out of bed a few times too! Jinzha hardly moved an inch in his sleep, so that made no sense for him.
Typical for Father to make nonsense explanations for his blatant favoritism.
But Erlang made it as equal as possible while still taking into consideration the brothers' actual needs.
Nezha was the only one with a bigger bed because he was a married man now. Plus, he had lived there the longest, so naturally his room was far more complete than the other two.
Jinzha never asked for it, but his room came with a bassinet and a rocking chair. Little else was in there as of now, but there was a promise of more to come when Jinzha wished it so.
Muzha was promised a desk of his choice with whatever desktop accessories he wished. Perfect just for him. Erlang truly was making an effort with him.
It felt nice.
~~~
Erlang came in to tuck Muzha in and bid him goodnight. Final conversations were had and some estimates of when promises would be fulfilled.
"Of all the times he had to tell us to go ask another parent, it had to be when our car has been flipped over!"
"Luckily we weren't in it, though."
SWK: It's always something!
Nezha: *dialing Zhang* Yeah, feels like it. At least I managed to establish the bus system before this.
~~~
Zhang: *burping Jinka* *baby talking him* You look like you had some good formula, Bear! You're already such a chunky boy! You're so cute! The cutest ever!
Nezha: Yeah, no one was in it. We're okay, Bapa. I might need a ride to work for a few days until I can get a new car, though.
Kang: Do you need a ride home right now?
Nezha: Yeah, if you don't mind. We're just at the Water District Main Library.
Kang: Okay, I'll come get you. I'm at Jinzha's so I might take a minute to get over there.
Nezha: How's Jinzha doing?
Kang: He's doing a good job of taking care of Jinka, but not so much of himself. Papa, Appa, and I are giving him a break so he can take time for self-care.
Nezha: Oh, I don't want to take you away from him if he needs you!
Kang: Nah, I'm just being a warm body in the room at this point. Papa's the best at this sort of thing and Appa has been the one keeping Jinzha from sprinting back to Jinka the second he gets fussy.
Kang: Jinzha's sleeping right now and Jinka probably will be soon, too. I'll come get you.
~~~
*car ride home*
SWK: Do you think anything is wrong with Jinzha?
Kang: No, we're keeping a very close eye on him. He's just protective of Jinka. Jinzha's still getting into the swing of taking care of a baby and himself at the same time. Even experienced parents can struggle with that as I'm sure you know.
SWK: Yeah, I know.
Kang: He's doing great. He just needs a bit of assistance, like all parents do. That's why grandparents and babysitters exist.
SWK: Wait, you can get a babysitter just so you can take a break?
Nezha: *has babysat Wukong's kids in the past* What did you think babysitters were for?
SWK: So parents can go on date nights or to the bar to work or to make more kids. Stuff like that!
Nezha: Well, yeah, but it's also for when you need a break. What you do with that break is entirely up to you. You can use it for self-care if you'd like.
SWK: Why didn't anyone tell me that sooner?!
Nezha: Not sure.
~~~
Muzha liked being held by Erlang. Held in general, he supposed. He didn't have much experience with it.
They sat together on the couch, watching a movie Muzha picked out. Erlang put a blanket around Muzha then slung his arms around him. It was cozy.
Muzha couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so... comforted. Maybe Erlang was truly never going to forget about him.
Just maybe.
~~~
Jinzha undressed himself to shower. He didn't want to admit it, but he did smell. He couldn't remember the last time he did shower.
Jinzha caught sight of himself in the mirror. Dark circles and bags under the eyes, a minor amount of hair loss from the hormone shift. Stretch marks at the midsection.
Jinzha smiled. He loves his stretch marks. A beautiful reminder of the son he bore.
...
Oh Buddha, was that really his smell? Gods!
No wonder Zha- no, Papa, insisted he take a day off to take care of himself.
They don't even have context for their car being flipped over. They went in the library with a perfectly parked car and came out to a car flipped on its hood halfway through the parking lot.

I’m supposed to be finishing the new Celestial Affairs comic BUT I need a lil break from comic thinking SO *drumroll*
If you have a Shadowpeach fanchild OC you want me to draw drop them on my inbox and I’ll do a bust shot of them💃💃💃
They have to be entirely an OC (so no MK or canon characters) and only 1 per person or I’ll perish lmaooo (unless they’re twins then I could do that (triplets I would seize to exist lmaoo))
So uhh choose you fighters and have fun
((Like I said I am busy drafting my comics and kofi requests right now so it might take me a solid minute to get to drawing the kiddos but I’ll do my best😎👍)
I have a character description from my fanfic if you don't mind:
"Savage told Wukong about each tattoo and its meaning in detail. Savage had gotten a job as a tattoo artist and had beautiful tattoos covering every square inch of him except his face. His head was shaved aside from a Mohawk that spun out into dozens of individual braids, each long enough to touch his hips. Savage wore a white tank top with green cargo pants and a gray jacket with his company's logo tied around his waist.
But his face was left almost unchanged. Macaque's face with Wukong's once golden-brown eyes. Savage's ears were pierced 6+ times each ear, and he had six of them. Wukong didn't even know anyone's ears could be pierced in such ways. Savage had a nose piercing, not like DBK's, but a stud on the left nostril."
"Of all the times he had to tell us to go ask another parent, it had to be when our car has been flipped over!"

No wonder Zha- no, Papa, insisted he take a day off to take care of himself.
Muzha was very surprised by the call he had received from Erlang.
Erlang: Yes, really! I want to spend time with you one-on-one. Your brothers have been getting attention constantly and I want to make sure I see you too.
Erlang: I don't want to mess with your own plans, though. I'm able and willing to schedule around yours. Whatever day works for you, I'll be happy to set aside time for us.
Muzha: *flabbergasted* *stuttering* I- yeah! Okay, I'll check my schedule and let you know! What all did you want to do?
Erlang: Whatever you want to! I'm not picky.
Muzha: Okay, uh... *clicks tongue in thought* Can we play catch or something? I'm sorry if that sounds stupid- I- I don't know what fathers and sons typically do together, I-
Erlang: No, no! That sounds wonderful, Muzha! I'd be happy to play catch with you. Let me know when you're free and I'll set everything aside so we can play catch.
Muzha: Okay! I will!
~~~
Muzha couldn't shake the feeling that this was a set-up or some kind of prank on Erlang's part, even after a reassuring call to Jinzha. Nevertheless, he gave Erlang potential times to choose from.
Muzha couldn't remember the last time he had been so conflicted with hope and worry. Even Nezha's and Jinzha's various medical emergencies never caused him such distress.
All he really could do was pray to Guanyin and hope for the best.
~~~
Muzha sat outside his house with anticipation. Erlang said he'd pick Muzha up at his place but what if he didn't come? Sure, Muzha had chosen to sit outside 15 minutes early, but- wait...
Is that Erlang?! He's also 15 minutes early?!
~~~
Muzha didn't realize how bad he was catching and throwing until now. He was almost sure that he was testing the Illustrious Sage's patience.
Erlang was being far more patient than Muzha deserved from him. Yet...
Erlang: It's okay, you don't have to be good at it. Just do underhand for now. We can work our way up to overhand. Let's just practice the basics for now.
Muzha: Like this? *throws underhand*
*ball lands halfway between him and Erlang*
Muzha: Aw.
Erlang: Just like that! That was good! Now you just need to add a little more power to it. Let's try again but harder. I'll stand closer this time too.
Muzha: ... Okay!
~~~
After catch, Erlang made lunch for the two of them. Luckily, because of Wukong, Erlang learned to make a few vegetarian dishes that Muzha could eat.
It took a bit for Muzha to figure out how to converse with Erlang. Turns out he didn't mind Muzha ranting to him about school or the subjects he was learning or the few school events he had been a part of.
Erlang listened patiently.
Then something Muzha truly didn't expect to happen happened.
Nezha, unaware of the two spending time together, called Erlang in the middle of lunch. Why, Muzha didn't know.
Erlang simply canceled the call and texted Nezha that he was occupied and if it were an emergency, to call Zhang instead.
Muzha: But what if something happened to him?
Erlang: Muzha, my fiancees and I have been handling Nezha for the majority of his life. He has gotten plenty of attention from us throughout that time. They can handle him, I trust them.
Erlang: You on the other hand, I have yet to give any spotlight to. Yes, I have been busy with your brothers, but that doesn't mean you're any less important. I want to spend time with you too. You're my son as well.
Erlang took a sip of his tea. It was then that Muzha realized that Erlang had been drinking from the mug he gifted him for Father's Day. He was using it.
Muzha hadn't even been trying to compete with his brothers on this one. It was merely a way to test the waters with Erlang.
And he was using the mug.
Erlang must have seen Muzha take note of the mug, as he then thanked Muzha for it and mentioned that he used it frequently.
When Muzha tried to deny his words, Erlang gently confirmed it, even telling him to ask his sworn brothers if he truly didn't believe him.
Erlang: I truly do appreciate the gift. Not just for what it is, but that it came from you. The first Father's Day gift from a child is a treasured one, no matter what it is.
Muzha: Truly?
Erlang: *nods* Truly.
Erlang: *grabs Muzha's hand* You are my son now, too. And I will love you as such. I promise you, you will not be forsaken.
Erlang: It's okay if you don't believe me just yet. I cannot undo what has been done. But I will remind you as many times as it takes for you to know, in mind, body, and soul, that you will never be left behind again.

hello! :D
I just realized, and I may be putting together dots that might not fit but, would Kai share Wukong's dislike of water in your Spicy Noodles Bio Parents au? I know Canon!Kai has a fear of water because he never learned to swim, but would that be the case for your au Kai?
His dislike could also spring from the fact that he's a fire demon as well, but we do know Red Son is fine in the water. All I can imagine now is MK trying to teach Kai to swim and he is just not having it. Like those videos of a baby otter getting into water for the first time. Hehehe.
hope you have a great day
i think the water dislike is genetic, because also Nya never learned (or learned at the same time as kai).

Hi! How are you?
So, my question has a big "if", but IF Kai (from the spicynoodles bioparents au) has a love interest, will he have the courtnaping thing? Like MK had? Don't really know how to write it...
Have a good morning/afternoon/evening!

if he’d have a crush, he would get them, yes.

I don’t remember if this was asked already but, are LMK and Ninjago the only Lego shows you’ve seen? Or have you watched any others like Dreamzzz, LOC or Nexo Knights?
yes, they’re the only one I saw.
@cartoonfriend ha chiesto:
I wanted this ask for a while, but are you a fan of Chris Sander's art style?
It's that your comics especially characters giving me same vibes as Mulan storyboard mixed with Lilo and Stitch and How To Train Your Dragon. But it also remind me of Glen Keane's Over The Moon.
i used some Mulan reference to kind of put down the style for the spicynoodles au.
@angrymonkie ha chiesto:

Hi, this is my first time using this in a long time, but I just wanted to say how much comfort your LMK AU has brought me. With the show possibly being on the brink of being cancelled, I’ve genuinely cried due to the thought of it. Your comics keep my love for the show positive rather than negativity think of its future with LEGO 🥹❤️🩹
you’re welcome!
@wisherthecat ha chiesto:
so if something were to happen to red son would kai immediately become the new demon bull king?

long haired kai is now my new canon
@agent-de-la-spl ha chiesto:
Random question but what do you think about Kailor ? I ask bc I saw some theories saying that Skylor may come back in DR and that she's still dating Kai and I was wondering about your opinion abour that and if that may change something for Kai's relationship status in your au ?
I don't really care much for skylor (since they are canon exes) but if the writers can do something good with it in the future seasons for once I won't mind.
@wisherthecat ha chiesto:
so how exactly did Maya and ray meet kai and nya?
they felt their element energy signatures and followed outside their home and found them.
baitao-daughter-of-monkey-king ha chiesto:

AND DO MK, PIGSY, AND THE OTHERS KNOW?! DO THEY KNOW THEIR TANGY IS JUST CHILLING WITH CELESTIALS AND WREAKING ALL KINDS OF HAVOC MONKEY KING STYLE?! KYRI!
everyone knows.
@staticwyvernglitch ha chiesto:
What if there was an alternate timeline in the Spicynoodles Bio Parent AU where instead of Kai being insulted by Red Son calling him a pseudo-fire wielder and being all like "UM, HELLO??? I'M A CERTIFIED FIRE ELEMENTAL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH 😡" thus leading to the current events in the story, Kai just changes the topic to "Look guys, I dunno who the hecc you are, but I gotta get home and return this bike to my sister before she kills me" and then just drives away leaving Red Son and MK standing there like "Welp, guess we better look somewhere else for our son". What would happen then? 🤔
@NinjaHaku2Art is doing something similar
@blahaj-doco ha chiesto:
does mk believe what xianglu says about facing the consequences of his actions
a little yes. he never forgave himself for what happened.
@not-xiaotian-quan ha chiesto:
I would like to ask if Erlang ever showed up in any of your AU
he was part of the council in last week chapter.
@cloudy-oxo10 ha chiesto:
WAIIIIIITT I JUST REMEMBERED IN SEASON 11 OF NINJAGO they were dragging an unconscious kai around cause they were all chained together and nya complained about him weighing a ton, like, “What’d he eat for breakfast? bricks?”
In your AU, is that because he’s part stone monkey, so he weighs more than average?
lol I suppose so!
@wisherthecat ha chiesto:
so for mk and Redson's wedding. who wore the wedding dress? or did they wear Chinese wedding robes?
they had wedding robes
@colorgachagamer123 ha chiesto:

@fanatess ha chiesto:
Hang on- am I seeing a beard on Wukong?? Or is that just the collar of his armor?
it's a beard
@bobbapearls ha chiesto:
In your spicynoodles bio parents au what do you think zodiac sign and kais birthday is and what mk first thoughts when seeing Kai the first time when he was born thank you for your time
kai could be a sagittarius. MK thought he looked like a mimi him. (and a little bit like a red potato)
Wukong's tail couldn't stop wagging as he waited at the bus stop's handicap section.
Wukong held a map depicting the routes of each bus. The routes were colored the same as the busses that took them. The bus route map and the sign on the bus stop had the times each bus would arrive where on it.
It was admittedly a bit harder for someone with visual impairments like Wukong to make out, something he would definitely be mentioning to Nezha later. With his glasses, Wukong could more easily understand what the map said, but it still took a bit of extra focus and squinting.
The blue bus was the bus that stopped between the Main District Bus Stations. Wukong, now seated at the Water District Main Station, waited to go to the Metal District to get some vegetables that were more commonly found in the grocery stores there. He brought a small rolling basket to transport the goodies home.
~~~
The blue bus ran very smoothly and the ramp worked well too! Wukong was also surprised by the space in the wheelchair/ stroller section.
Not many people were on the bus, unsurprisingly. This was the first week of the busses being available, after all.
The only other passengers were a mom with a toddler in the built-in car seat, and a turtle-looking gentleman in the handicap spot with a cane.
The intercom system played a recording of a friendly voice announcing their next stop. It was a lovely sound to hear, and very helpful since Wukong wasn't familiar with the streets the bus took.
~~~
Wukong rested at the Metal District Station for a moment to text Nezha that he had arrived safely. He wasn't too used to having a phone, but he had to admit that it did help with communication.
Red Son made an attachment phone holder for his wheelchair that could be adjusted for each of his wheelchairs. Very handy. Those along with other attachments and trinkets could be found in Da-xia's department of Red Son's business.
Nezha responded a few moments later expressing his delight that Wukong had arrived safely and a reminder that Red Son's workplace wasn't too far away from the heart of the Metal District.
Wukong sent a thumbs up as a response.
The Metal District reminded Wukong of San Diego. It was a larger and taller city than the one he and Nezha lived in, but not quite New York/ Megapolis skyscraper big.
Wukong took a bit to get to the grocery store; crossing the street still was a bit intimidating without Nezha there with him.
The store itself was a nice little produce shop, though some of the items were a bit higher up. Wukong had only brought his regular wheelchair since it could connect to the basket and could be hand-propelled.
And just his luck, the cilantro was on one of the upper shelves. The only store employee in sight was helping someone at the register.
Whelp, no use waiting if he could get it himself.
SWK: *detaches the basket and uses it as a crutch to stand* Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow-
River: Woah, Wukong, do you need help there?
SWK: *turns head around* River?!
River: Yeah, it's me. Do you need help? That looks like it's hurting you.
SWK: It is. Just a bit. *deeply exhales in relief as he sits down* You mind getting the cilantro?
River: Sure thing. *points* It's that one, right?
SWK: Yep. What are you doing here, anyway? Looking for some uncommon veggies too?
River: Nah, just stocking up the new fridge. Jing and I moved out a bit towards the edge of town. It's a nice spot.
SWK: Moved? I didn't hear anything from Erlang about that!
River: Yeah, Jing didn't make a big fuss about it, for once. Not many people left to fuss to, though.
SWK: Oh, yeah, guess not... Is he here?
River: Yeah, he's over there. He saw you struggling and told me to go help.
SWK: *waves at Jing*
Jing: *waves back*
SWK: You two doing okay?
River: Yeah! We're starting off fresh in our new home, I think Jing finally caved and started taking therapy seriously. He's going consistently and it's showing! It's not a straightforward improvement, I mean, you know how it is, but yeah. It's been good.
River: I think the whole cutting ties thing was what gave Jing the wake-up call he needed. He's not trying to "self-improve" just to get what he wants anymore. He's actually trying to better himself now.
River: And it's really been improving our relationship. And yes, we're officially together now.
SWK: That's awesome for you two! I'm so happy for you both.
River: How are things going on your end?
SWK: Eh... crazy as usual. I don't think any of the brothers want me to share details about their lives, though. But I will say that I am officially free from D.A.V.E!
River: You are?! *covers their mouth to squeal*
River: Oh my goodness, congratulations!
SWK: Thank you!
River: So you're really getting better? No wait, duh, I mean, you literally stood up just now. Kinda.
SWK: Yeah, I'm still working on recovering. Without proper help, it's still hard to stand up correctly. It can hurt if I don't do it right, but my legs still aren't quite strong enough to fully support myself. The basket's too low and not firm enough to really give me a good boost.
River: Not surprised. What I am surprised about is that you're apparently here alone. Where is everyone?!
SWK: At work, though I do have a phone to call if I need help. I can go places without assistance now thanks to the new busses!
River: Oh yeah, the new busses. We got a notice in the mail about that. And you can just... go? Nezha's okay with it?
SWK: He's my husband, not my owner! He does tell me to let him know where I am so he doesn't worry too much, though. I don't mind. He's still a huge improvement over my past marriages.
River: Yeah... I do have some of his memories, and most of the ones about you? Not pretty. I'm sure you know more than I do... I'm really not him, I swear to you.
SWK: I know. I can tell. You two never truly felt like the same person. Not really.
River: *breathes a sigh of relief* Thank you. I'm really happy to hear that from you.
SWK: Don't think about him too much. He's a dead man, he's gone. It's high time we started living.
River: Thanks, Wukong. I'll try.
SWK: Trying is all any of us are ever doing.
~~~
Nezha: *sets down his lunchbox* So how was shopping?
SWK: It was good! And you'll never guess who I ran into today!
Nezha: *jokingly* Was it Koraidon?
SWK: It was your father.
Nezha: *freezes*
SWK: Don't worry, I only talked to River! And I didn't mention Jinka to them!
Nezha: Okay... What were they doing there?
SWK: Turns out they moved near there! Somewhere on the outskirts of the Metal District. River says it's a nice little spot. They also said that both of them are doing a lot better and Jing is taking therapy more seriously now!
Nezha: Really?
SWK: That's what River said! They said you and your brothers cutting ties with him was the "wake up call" he needed.
Nezha: What all did they say?
SWK: *recounts the entire conversation*
Nezha: Oh... good for him.
SWK: I... I just figured I should let you know. I know that's probably a lot to take in-
Nezha: No, no! It's good that he's improving, great even!
SWK: Nezha...
Nezha: *looks away* *sighs* I know I should be happy for him, I just... pissed.
Nezha: *huffs angrily* ... Why couldn't he change like that for me?
SWK: Oh, Nezha!
Nezha: *breaks down crying* *hugs Wukong* Why didn't he do that for me? When I was there?
SWK: *holds him* I don't know. I'm so sorry, Daffodil. I wish I knew.
Waking up to his daughter three inches from his face was not how Nezha anticipated to welcome the morning of Father's Day.
Nezha: Caihong? What are you-
RS: Happy Father's Day!
Nezha: ... Why are you so close to my face? Are you trying to give me another heart attack?
RS: No. ... I was just excited...
Nezha: Okay...
RS: *crawls into bed to cuddle* Mum is making breakfast and then we're heading over to Jinzha's place if you wanna join us.
Nezha: Oh right, Jinzha got out of the maternity ward yesterday.
RS: Mm-hmm! Still can't believe Jinka's a month old already.
Nezha: I know! So big already! Where did the time go?
RS: Don't know. ... Hey, Baba?
Nezha: Yes, Caihong?
RS: Do you think Mum will ever be ready to meet Jinka?
Nezha: He will be, one day. Hopefully today. We talked, and he said that it might be easier once Jinzha was back home.
RS: I hope so.
Jing sat in the living room looking at all of the packed boxes. He couldn't stop thinking about how just a year ago, he'd been sitting here with his sons as his youngest showed off his first Father's Day gift so proudly he couldn't utter a proper word.
Now he sat alone packing all the items that once belonged to that son and wondered how it all went so wrong.
He knew damn well that it was the same as the first time. Carelessness, ego, denial, misplaced anger, grudges that were far too old to be reasonable anymore. He didn't even try pretending that it was anything other than his fault.
But how could he let it happen so many times? Why did he keep falling into patterns that only ever hurt his children and by extention himself?
Jing knew it was futile to try reconnecting with his children, it would likely only lead to more pain anyway. So he decided to move on as best he can.
And also literally move.
Jing had discussed it with River: he was still welcome to live in the Forbidden City since he had retired from his position, but once he left, he could never go back in.
After some back and forth, they agreed that moving would likely be a good step forward.
So here Jing sat, surrounded by boxes of items old and new ready to be shipped to their new place in a small sector of the Celestial Realm a bit farther away, but not too far from their therapist's office.
It was a nice little house, out near some farmlands, between the edges of the Metal District and a town with a larger non-human presenting populace.
A good place for a fresh start with the one son Jing had left.
~~~
Jinzha was always so scared of this step but he did it regardless.
Jinzha: *ties the last knot* And... there! *stands up slowly and walks over to the mirror* Look at you in the wrap, Jinka!
Jinka: *gives the biggest toothless grin*
Jinzha: *heart melting* Oh, my precious son, you were so worth it. I'm so happy to spend this special day with you.
Jinka: *looks at Jinzha*
Jinzha: It's Father's Day, my sweet! My very first one with you, my precious child.
Jinzha: Just a year ago, I watched your uncle weep and wail at our father's feet because he got his first Father's Day present from his son. I never said it to his face, but I thought he was over exaggerating.
Jinzha: And now I look at you, my child.
Jinzha: *tearing up* He wasn't! Not one bit!
~~~
Nezha flipped through the pages of his newest book and giggled to himself.
Savage and his other children had worked together to make a "Pokédex" of his sons and daughters, complete with types they picked out for themselves and stats as well as "potential moves" they could learn.
Nezha marveled at the last page, one of himself and his husband.
Nezha himself was listed as a water and fire type, and Wukong as a rock and fairy type. Interesting combinations.
Then he read the descriptions.
"Nezha: The Amazing Father Pokémon: After marriage, this Pokémon breaks the cycle of abuse and absent parenting. Nezha gives off a warm presence that calms any in his presence. Commonly found sharing dens with Wukongs in the wild."
The grin wouldn't leave Nezha's face.
~~~
Erlang was surprised by the sight before him.
Muzha held up a gift bag to Erlang, clearly to give it to him, yet said nothing.
Erlang grabbed the gift bag from him, but as soon as he took his eyes off Muzha to inspect the gift bag, Muzha darted into Jinzha's house quicker than Erlang could blink his three eyes.
Erlang looked after him puzzled, then opened the present.
It was a "World's Best Dad" coffee mug.
From Muzha? That meant a lot to Erlang.
~~~
Jinzha welcome the elder of his two brothers and the Plum Hill Boys into his home.
Each gave their greetings and took turns cooing at Jinka.
About an hour later, Muzha ran into the living room.
Muzha: Nezha and Red Son are here! And they brought Wukong!
Jinzha: *stands up* They did?!
*knock knock knock*
*everyone looks at the door*
Jinzha: Well don't just stand there! Answer it!
Muzha: *runs to answer the door*
~~~
Nezha: Again, there's no shame if you can't bring yourself to go in!
SWK: I know, but I think I can do it this time. If I need to duck out, I'll let you know.
RS: We're right here if you need us, Mum. *knocks on the door*
Muzha: *answers the door* Hi! Come on in!
Nezha helped Wukong through the door. Wukong held another large container of food he'd cooked for Jinzha, as well as a present for the newest father.
Wukong scanned the room for Jinzha, who wasn't hard to find as he made his presence open but cautious from his spot on the couch. Jinzha's arms hid his son, just in case his child would trigger his brother-in-law.
Nezha took the food from Wukong to set on the kitchen counter. Then Wukong, all on his own, moved his wheelchair slowly towards Jinzha, a curious look on the monkey's face.
The whole room seemed to hold its breath.
SWK: *stops directly in front of Jinzha* *hold out the gift* This is for you!
Jinzha: *takes the gift* Thank you! This means a lot to me just that you're here. *starts unwrapping the present* Let's see, what do we have here?
Jinzha: Is this a spill-proof cup?
SWK: Yeah! Look what it says on it!
Jinzha: "Single Dad: (noun) the strongest man in existence". Awww! Thank you!
SWK: You're welcome! ... Are you recovering okay?
Jinzha: I am. I'm mostly healed, just going through the normal postpartum hormones.
SWK: Yeah, those things take a while to get out of your system.
Jinzha: I cried because I can't share your food with Jinka yet.
SWK: Welcome to parenthood.
Jinzha: Would you... like to meet him?
SWK: ... *smiles* Yeah.
Jinzha: *moves so that Wukong can see Jinka in the wrap* He's a sweetheart, wouldn't hurt a fly, I promise.
SWK: *gasps in awe* Oh! ... How precious... aw, sweet baby... so perfect.
SWK: *reaches to touch Jinka* *hesitates* *looks at Jinzha* May I?
Jinzha: Would you like to hold him?
SWK: ... Maybe just a small touch?
Jinzha: You may! Whatever you're comfortable with, Wukong. I'm just happy you were able to get this close!
Jinzha: Go ahead, you can touch. You have my permission. I trust you.
SWK: *boops Jinka on the nose*
Jinka: *smiles*
SWK: *tail wagging* He smiled at me!
Jinzha: He did! See? Wouldn't hurt a fly. I promise it's okay. And if he starts crying, it won't be your responsibility to fix, it'll be mine. Okay?
SWK: Okay.
~~~
Jinka was asleep in the bassinet being observed mostly by Wukong.
SWK: *points a Jinka* Your baby does the scrunch!
Jinzha: He does. I want it to last forever.
SWK: Nezha! You were right about the little feets!
Nezha: I know! Such little feets!
SWK: I could stare at him forever.
SWK: I'm glad I came.
Jinzha: I'm glad you did too.
Nezha: We're all very proud of you, Mushroom. Say, Brother? What is Jinka's nickname?
