This is fucking horseshit. I work as a youth care specialist watching high risk kids with behavioral issues at night when they are prone to things like suicide and need to be carefully watched in order to keep them safe. I am not a god damn janitor. We do minor chores to assist keeping their cottages clean, however we are not responsible for deep cleaning a kitchen every night, especially when they refuse to fix the dish washer and NOW the sink sprayer which I guess they decided to cut off. I also have loads of laundry to do, as well as children with special needs to watch and keep in bed/out of each others rooms. I can't spend all night every night cleaning up after every meal left sitting where it was eaten. I WON'T spend every night cleaning without the assistance of the day shift at least doing their part to clean up after their kids. Aside from that, these kids get paid money to do chores as their responsibility, to help teach them how to live responsably and not just in a mess. So they are recieving payment for incomplete responsibilities. All I ask is a little fucking teamwork. We as night staff constantly pick up after the other staff, trying to make their days as easy as possible so they can devote their full attention to the kids who need them, however they are required to give us assistance cleaning in order to help our nights run as smoothly, as night is often the time when kids self harm or try to run out on the streets/make poor decisions. This is an every single night ordeal, and if teamwork is REALLY that important to teach these kids, and to teach them responsibility and not only care for their wellbeing in a structured, safe, and CLEAN environment (unlike most of the homes the kids come from), day shift needs to be stepping up to the fucking plate. We are not janitors, and our responsibility is first and foremost to the kids who feel alone, isolated, scared, and unsafe well into the night. Get your FUCKING act together, dayshift. I can understand bad days and empathize with how tired and exhausting it is as stand in as parent-like figures for 12 emotionally distraught kids with behavioral problems, but a chill ass day like they had today shouldn't leave a mess this bad. And just because you've had to consider all night what to be for the halloween party you are going to doesn't mean this shit is acceptable (this was the excuse given as to why they had to leave early). I'm not fucking around. You have a responsibility to these children as I do, and I grew up in a trash filled horders nest. So I DO know how living in a shithole allows for mental illness to take over, depression to kick in, and lives ruined. For fuck sakes, start doing the bare minimum.
