Hello! I'm Cas Steele, nonbinary butch pansexual. I use they/them pronouns. I'm in my 30's, and I met my spouse on tumblr over a decade ago. This blog may be new, but I am a tumblr ancient. I enjoy D&D, have a collection of DVDs I'm going through, and I like to garden.

I'm an aspiring author. I write things! Minors take heed: I write adult topics on this blog.
I tag some things (mostly my own writing bc I remember to, or just commentary), and I don't tag others (I use mobile almost exclusively and fast reblog most things).
This blog is specifically for book recs, writing tips, and my own writing journey. Sometimes memes. I love tag games so feel free to tag me in those!
Currently writing the second draft of my book Rodeo Roy: Reluctant Time Traveler; about Roy James Ramirez, a gay cowboy/former bull rider from the 1970s, who goes on an unintentional and uncontrolled journey through time. While Jumping around time and space and trying to figure out how and why, he meets the loves of his long and confusing life, who each have something to teach him. Romance/Historical Fiction; written via journal entries, articles, poetry, etc.

I am participating in #yeehawgust this year (2025), and some of those will end up in the book itself. Which ones? Well, follow along on my writing journey and find out!
I'm poor and hiring editors/proofreaders is expensive so the plan is to have the book out by 2029. Buy me a coffee if you want!

Hello, I have returned. The kind responses to my ask for beta readers overwhelmed me to the point of running away from Tumblr entirely for a LONG time. Sorry!!!
I still think the most devastating enshittification I've ever seen has been picrew. One of the few dress-up game websites left that's not flash-based and it's become DRENCHED in ads. You can't open the home screen without being blasted by at least three or four ads. You can't open two picrews in a row without watching a video ad first. When you have a picrew open the ads cover up the different options and sometimes even stack on each other so you have to hit like 2 or 3 different x buttons to get it to go away, only for more to appear seconds later. Evil world
For once I can be the one to promote alternate sites, my time to shine has finally come
Now I will say I do use an adblocker so I can't say how many ads all these places have, but- Here's some other places you can go to dress up little characters on your screen!
meiker.io - A free dress-up/character creator tool/platform filled with a TON of neat little games. There ARE ads on this site unfortunately but imo they aren't overwhelming (and from what I understand them running ads helps keep the site free, so). I've been using this site off and on for years already bc most games are fullbody instead of headshots, which I find more helpful w oc creation, and I can say in my experience it all runs extremely smoothly :) of everything here this site is the most similar to picrew
DollDivine - One of the classic dress-up game websites. Not only is it still up but it is actively being updated with new games, and the owner has been working to try and transfer the old flash games into a program called Ruffle so that they can still be played. Most of the games that I played when I was younger are already back up and working again thanks to this. DollDivine is also the host site for the games featured on Rinmaru Games back in the day so if you were like me and lived and breathed that site for most of your pre-teen years, you will be delighted to know that many of those games were saved here! :D
Azalea's Dolls - Another classic one that is still running and still being added to! If you like Disney/fairytale-esque dress-up games you will love this website, they have some BEAUTIFUL games. They have also been transferring many of their old games into Ruffle, so a good chunk of those will be working again too.
PastelKatto Games - A site owned/managed by one of my personal favourite developers back in the day. While the creator has moved on from publishing their own games they still update the site with other games every so often, and the catalog of games they created over the course of the last decade or so is absolutely worth your time. The range of options they would give to players for characters included a wide range of skin tones, vitiligo, missing limbs + prosthetics, scars/burn marks, and more. Plus their art is also just really, really pretty.
VeggieStudio - If you like anime-esque games then this is the site for you. Their catalog may be quite small, but all the games on this site are beautifully drawn. You may recognize their style if you played any Rinmaru games, as they did the art for a few of those back in the day.
Most of these sites mainly feature games that center around female/feminine characters, but there ARE games where you can make guys/masculine characters as well. But just a heads up in advance. None of them are hardwired for pfp creation either, so if you're looking for that you might not find a lot here. But otherwise, def check these sites out! The flash purge hit dress-up game communities HARD but people have been working to keep things running in some form or another ever since the news dropped. It's been rough, but all has not been lost and a lot of the old games I used to play are now playable again! :D
Have you seen the new movie? It's on library. It's literally on the library. It's on library without ads. It's literally on your local public library. You can probably ask for it on your library. Dude it's on your library. It's in the original case too. It's on library. You can watch it at the library. You can go to your local library and watch it. Register onto your local library right now. Go to your library. Dive into your library. You can watch it. It's on there. Your library has it for you. Your library has it for you.
Have a look back on when your project was nothing more than thoughts and visions in your head. And look at what it is now
You created that. You made it from nothing. You brought it to life. It’s flawed, and maybe it’s not what you want it to be. But isn’t it so amazing that you’ve got it this far?
If you—like me—love the trope in theory but find that in practice it often ends up being asshole x idiot… Here’s some advice to try and prevent that.
⋆ Chemistry: Why do these characters, with fundamentally different personalities and outlooks on life, work? If there is little more than physical attraction, it will be very hard to believe this relationship has any kind of future
⋆ Depth & Duality: Give Sunshine serious moments of anger, sadness and frustration (and have it be taken seriously, instead of the "you're so cute when you're mad" trope). Give Grumpy light moments of joy and love; show that Grumpy truly cares for Sunshine.
⋆ Mutual respect: Sure, Grumpy can think Sunshine is a bit naive and Sunshine may sometimes be tired of Grumpy‘s pessimism. But if being grumpy and sunshine is a central part of their personality, it should be a quality that they like about the other instead of being annoyed by it.
⋆ Equally invested: Sunshine should not have cheering Grumpy's up as their hobby, and Grumpy should also initiate relationship activities instead of being dragged along to everything. Readers need to feel and understand why this relationship works, and that they do in fact like each other.
A lot more to say about the trope, but I think this is should make cohesive starting point!
WELCOME FRIENDS, TO THE BEGINNING OF AN ADVENTURE! Allow me to introduce to you, DELILAH JONES; free-lance Robin Hood and bad-ass extraordinaire.
In the cyberpunk future of The Redwood Files, Delilah Jones is half film-noire private detective, and half western-gunslinger, who rides into a lawless town and fights the bullies and the bastards that hurt innocent folks.
This anthology contains SIX, count 'em SIX short stories and novellas detailing Delilah's Adventures.
Through a Dream, Lethally; When tech CEO Michael Lense decides to hijack the soft-RAM in his employees heads in order to make people do his bidding, things can get awful, FAST. Being forced, without your consent, to be an assassin or a thief or a sex worker, and more. But Lense also has the city under-thumb. Only Delilah's got the brute force to break Lense's control, and free the city from his cruel influence.
Happy Endings, Guaranteed; Delilah has a partner, and after a long day of nonsense, is looking forward to visiting them at work to unwind. Only to get to the club where her partner works, and discover that they've been KIDNAPPED! Delilah races around the city, squaring up with every underworld hard-ass she comes across following every lead to find her partner. Except nothing is what it seems, and a simple (but tragic) kidnapping turns out to be way more nefarious than Delilah expected. . .
Delilah's Heart; recovering from the last adventure weeks later, Delilah meets a handsome butch at a dive bar. Things between the two show promise, but the butch gets called back to work by an abusive bastard who violates and exploits his employees. The butch asks Delilah for help, and as she digs into it, discovers a deeply connected mafia bookmaker who uses that underground protection to kill and exploit people without fear of consequences. Delilah's the only one who can bring justice down on this bastard, but it threatens a gang war if she does. . .
Gutter Medicine; a gang of outta-town skinheads robs an impoverished clinic in a rough neighborhood. Delilah digs into the theft, and promises to recover the medicine, only to discover that the outta-towners are stirring up trouble to pave the way for an invasion from the South. A Kingpin from Los Angeles is hungry for expansion, and Redwood is fertile ground. Unless Delilah can stop the gang, and convince the Kingpin it'd be too expensive to expand beyond the safe borders of LA.
Restitution; Delilah's robbing a rich billionaire's museum-like mansion one night when she's caught by an unlikely sentry, a very old man who'd had plans of trying to embarrass the billionaire for reneging on a deal, and leaving the old man destitute. Delilah invites him to tell his story, and she volunteers to see justice done, according to Delilah's exacting standards.
In a Name?; every trans person's name comes from a personal place and an intimate choice. This story is about a young thief, with big dreams and a hard head, how she picked her name, and the day she was reborn into Delilah-fucking-Jones.
These stories have literally been years in the making. Some of them are personal, all of them are personal favorites, and this anthology is a collection I've worked very hard on.
Genre fiction is deeply important to me, and I love bringing queer characters to this space. Every story published in this book appeared first, both as ideas and in rough-and-final drafts on my patreon.

wish there was a way to be like, hey I didn't want to pay for your streaming service subscription for this show so I watched it free on a shady pirate streaming site, I liked it so here's a one time payment of ten bucks, consider making a season two (which I'll also be watching free on a shady pirate site)
Up until last year I worked in public libraries (I'm at an academic library now), and I can't overstate how popular DVDs still are. People would come in and routinely check out 20-30 at a time, watch them all, and then check out more. TV shows, new releases, and non-fiction were obviously huge, but DVDs are also one of the only places you can get older movies that aren't on streaming, foreign films, or just something that recently moved from one service to another. In the children's section we had literally a couple of hundred Scooby Doo DVDs from various eras and they got checked out all the time.
DVDs can be watched whenever you want to and in whichever pieces you want. There are no ads that pop up at any point (except for the easily skippable trailers that might be at the beginning). Also, if you have no internet at your home you can still watch a DVD. It has started to become difficult in the past several years because a lot of patrons would come in asking for DVDs of recent tv shows they had heard about only for me to have to tell them that the company had no current plans to release those shows to DVD.
Anyways, if you have a public library go in sometime and just browse the DVD collection. It's the best modern approximation of what it used to be like to wander around a Blockbuster, and you may find something you love that streaming would never offer to you.
Our lips almost moving past each other in an action of pure love and sapphism, I've never felt more intertwined with another human being in my life. I can't tell where your skin begins and mine starts, I feel melded with you, one with you.
Hands wandering through layers of fabric and skin, feeling your figure in a state of pure need and adoration. I want my fingers to move past your skin and softly caress your bones, easing the anxiety that is so fundamental to you. How I hope to help you feel entirely calm one day.
I am honored to be able to share this moment with you, my angel. The thought of your existence alone is enough to make me wish I had more time in this world, and to think I get to have this much of such an unbelievable being. I could do this for eternities.
Pieces of clothing being removed out of of nothing but necessity for more closeness. Hands trailing behind the fabric, gently leaving craters in their wake. God, I need you. I crave you.
Bodies softer and smoother than silk, layers of our souls melding together into a blissful reincarnation of what love and admiration could be. Scars and bruises compliment the perfection of the rest of our bodies, they feel like intentional brushstrokes of detail and color on the work that is before me.
A warm closeness draws us closer to each other than ever thought possible, the feeling of soft static in my mind keeps it occupied and comfortable. I can't possibly be thinking about anything other than your entirety, anyways. The galaxies don't exist outside of this moment, local groups fade into the blanket of gods watching over us.
Songs of angels ring out, even if some would call them sacrilegious in nature. They cascade into my mind in ways music never could, filling me with more emotion than the most beautiful of ballads. How can frequencies elicit such a response?
Fill me with your life, your radiance. Lay with me and know I aspire to hold you closer than our atoms will allow.
