i dont consider myself a 'fashion guru' by any means but one thing i will say is guys you dont need to know the specific brand an item you like is - you need to know what the item is called. very rarely does a brand matter, but knowing that pair of pants is called 'cargo' vs 'boot cut' or the names of dress styles is going to help you find clothes you like WAAAYYYY faster than brand shopping
this also goes for aesthetic or -core titles. 'y2k tank top' is going to get you resellers and fast fashion brands advertising to people looking to meet a current trend. 'thin strap crop tank top' is going to get you a diverse group of results and not upcharge you to hell and back
additionally, shop second hand when you can, second hand and thrift sites typically organize clothes by the cut and color. theyll be more affordable than a depop seller curating you a style to sell you
useful terminology for different kinds of clothing shapes :)
My plan for the public transit system is to make bus drivers into a sort of holyman whose role is cherished in society. Then we give them access to all the ecstasy they want and they're expected to take it on the job.

wow! as a broke college kid, i wish there was a way to access books and movies as well as scientific articles that the new administration isn't necessarily a fan of. man. If only there was a free and trusted vpn ( up to 10 gigs of downloadable data) to use in conjunction with an anonymizing router (also free up to 10 gigs) to safely, er, permanently borrow media in an untraceable way as well as share files. Man, what's that browser that keeps your online activity anonymous? I'm awfully attached to firefox, personally. If only i had a browser extension that would throw a smoke screen over my browsing data while blocking ads at the same time.
what was i talking about? hmm. weird.

Hey so it's come to my attention that the Creators of Disco Elysium want you to share the game and not give the company who took over and fired them (illegally)?) any profits off of their ideas and work, and I originally joined tumblr 2 weeks ago when that post was going around about the Steam sale and how you should [Skull and Crossbones flag] it instead.
So.
in light of that.

I was informed that posts containing links in them aren't findable in the search so i'll just.... drop a link in a seperate reboot :)

Knowing that trans women of color started the movement in the united states and were literally immediately erased and excluded from what they started is the most deeply jading knowledge.
It is the original sin of the so-called queer community and it damns it from the cradle.
no white gay boy will ever reblog this, watch:

Without Stonewall, without the efforts of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, the LGBTQ Community wouldn’t be where it is today. Don’t forget the roots, don’t forget the catalyst.
and then TERFs wanna be like, “hmm well the LGBT community existed before Stonewall!”
but like…Becky, of course LGBTQ+ people existed before Stonewall. We’ve all existed since the beginning of time. But the movement got a shock to its senses, a jump-start, a rocket-into-space when that glass shattered via Marsha P. Johnson, and when Sylvia Rivera was up on-stage protesting guess who was on the sidelines heckling her?
The same fuckers who won’t ever reblog or acknowledge this
My apologies to the original poster as I photo captured this post to add to the thread-I reposted this last year for pride and expect to repost it every year I have left-it’s our history people.
Marsha P. Johnson allegedly died of suicide in 1992, and her death was never investigated. Even I, a mere prole, could catch the “she was murdered” vibes from the circumstances surrounding the discovery of her body.
Without a trans black woman, LGBT+ rights would not exist. Never forget. Never “pay it no mind”.

Sound on. It's truly a masterpiece.
looking at (vetted) gofundmes for people trying to escape palestine and i don't know how many of you actually click on the gofundme links you reblog but i would like to point out, for what it's worth, just how amazing it is that so many have raised so much money. it may overall feel like a drop in the ocean but the fact that several gofundmes have raised tens of thousands of dollars is amazing. it is so expensive to leave gaza right now, and people still need money after they escape. but regardless of what propaganda the US, UK, canada, and other western nations are trying to pump out, people across the world are doing what they can to help these people survive. many of them are still very far from their goals (like this one and this one and this one) and some of them are very close to high goals (like this one), and some of them have reached almost double their original goal.
and that's not even addressing direct aid or organizations that take continuous donations for distribution of food, menstrual products, etc. the PCRF has raised $16,000,000 of their target goal of $20,000,000 to fund current aid and long-term relief efforts in gaza. ANERA's febuary 13th update discusses the material ways they helped palestinians today:
(ANERA donate link)
my point is, it often feels like the world is turning a blind eye to palestine. but i would like to point out that there is an important difference between "the world" and "western political leaders and media narratives". a breathtaking amount of real people, the people who make up the world, are trying to help. in the face of israel attempting to commit genocide, the world is saying No. These people deserve to live. and literally sending millions of dollars internationally, through the internet connection that israel has desperately been trying to destroy.
it may not feel like it matters in the grand scheme of things. but to the people who get fresh clothes, or a hot meal, or blankets, or the kids who get new toys, or to the people who are able to bring their families to safety, it matters to them. go make someone's day better. i've linked so many options with ways to do that.
I don't think people truly understand the gravity of Rafah being bombed.
There is nowhere left to go.
The lowest cost is $5,000 USD to flee to Egypt. There has been people paying over $10,000 USD.
That is the only option
Pay or die.
Rafah was the only place in Palestine promised not to be bombed. That promise is broken.
1.5 million people have nowhere to go!
Reminder, if possible, please donate to the PCRF, ANERA, Islamic Relief, Palestine Red Crescent Society, Medical Aid for Palestinians, Defense for Children International - Palestine, Doctors Without Borders, and all other trusted organizations.

Registered sex offenders in Ontario would not be able to legally change their names if a bill that's before the legislature passes.
Registered sex offenders in Ontario would not be able to legally change their names if a bill that's before the legislature passes. The legislation jointly introduced this week by Progressive Conservatives Laurie Scott and Laura Smith is all but ensured passage, with their party -- which has a majority in the legislature-- supporting it. "This bill, if passed, will stop the Karla Homolkas from becoming the Leanne Teales," Smith said, referring to the infamous killer and her name change. "We just feel that the right to change somebody's name should not be abused. We want to strengthen our province's commitment to zero tolerance to these offenders and their heinous crimes and put our full support behind the victims and the families ... We have to close up this loophole."

oooooh i don't like where this is going
lots of people in the states being changed to count as 'sex offenders' thanks to a lot of anti-trans bills, and with Saskatchewan passing their shitty "need parents' permission to change pronouns" law that just passed...
😬
Your reminder that - yea, even in extreme circumstances like these - rights are rights, not “good boy privileges”.
When we take away the rights of undesirable communities, we give the oppressor the tool by which to disenfranchise anyone who opposes them.
There are a not-insignificant number of older queers who are sex offenders for doing things like "hitting on another adult of the same gender" here in the US, so that ... scans.
Long ass addition. you have been warned.
alright so. lets start with this:
People are people. People who break the law are people. Yes, even people who do heinous shit. Yes, even sex offenders.
People have rights. This of course includes basic needs, like food, hygiene, shelter, water, healthcare. They also, quite crucially, have the right to privacy. Yes, even sex offenders.
The next logical step here would be to define what a sex offender actually is. Unfortunately I have no idea how to figure out what exactly constitutes a sex crime in Ontario. I believe it may involve wading through a lot of legal crap and I don't have the time, energy, or expertise to do so. But, here's what I have been able to gather:
Some crimes that we tend to think of first when we hear the words "sex offense"/"sex offender" Include: rape, incest, sexual abuse, sexual assault, bestiality, csa, child porn, sex trafficking, genital mutilation.
Some crimes that can be sex offenses that we don't necessarily think of in this context:
Prostitution (also probably prostitution related charges, such as the kind that basically prevent sex workers from receiving money from others because sometimes in some places that's a crime under anti-pimping laws? Philosophy Tube's video about sex work references this, iirc. Feel free to correct me on this.)
corruption of a minor (I literally have no idea what this is, found it on this webpage, if anyone knows please tell me)
sodomy (legal in Canada, illegal but not enforceable in 12 US States; still, point about older queers stands
unlawful imprisonment
indecent exposure
public urination (they really do love criminalizing homelessness)
Transporting a person across jurisdictions with the intent of engaging in sexual activities (this is different from sex trafficking? not sure how this one works, it's also from this webpage.)
I put these ones in a bulleted list so my commentary in parentheses is easier to discern. I pulled this list from a combination of American and Canadian sources, and I couldn't really find a solid definition for what a sex offense is in Ontario specifically.
So, there's a lot to unpack just with this. This isn't even getting to the actual degree of effectiveness of sex offender registries and other laws pertaining to sex offenders. Which is questionable at best, but downright invasive and sometimes inhumane at worst. Many of these laws are driven by skewed ideas of the commonality of certain types of crimes/moral panics. There's also the whole thing about punitive vs restorative justice in there, and I'm an anarchist so you can guess where my views fall in that regard.
There's a lot of reading out there regarding this subject. Here's some more, separated by 'free to read' and 'you might need a library card/school account to log into JSTOR for these.' If ppl really care about this addition then I can always download pdfs of the latter and put them in a google drive folder.

So, I personally think people should care about this in that justice should be humane and restorative, not vindictive and cruel, and sex offenders are already heavily penalized and somewhat marginalized in our society.
And I haven't even mentioned the way folks who don't engage in any of the crimes I mention might fall under the label of "sex offender" anyway. The way anti-trans and anti-queer laws have been ramping up in the US is one of the most obvious; anti-drag laws are also likely going to affect certain racial groups (often POC, especially Black women are labelled/considered less feminine/"mannish.") They're also likely to affect fat people; a common form of fatphobia is acting as though fatness disqualifies one from their gender. And they're not likely to stop at trans people; they're going to come after queerness on the whole, too. (And in some places, they already are.)
There's a whole moral superiority complex that I keep encountering up here in Canada, especially when any reference to political issues is made, but the anti-trans sentiment is getting worse. The recent legislation in Saskatchewan is not going to be the last of it. About a month ago, there were massive anti-trans "parental rights" protests in multiple cities across Canada. Me and my queer friends have been feeling and fighting the change in our communities.
This entire thing is terrifying. On a similar note to what user gayadvicefairy said above, passing this law would grant our oppressors more tools with which to disenfranchise us. We do not need more surveillance. We do not need more punishment. We need rehabilitative and restorative justice. We need liberation.
