fyi the point of fucking up your data patterns isnt to avoid suspicion. it’s to make EVERYONE suspicious. same logic as the bloc, pals. protect your comrades, be suspicious. ESPECIALLY if you aren’t doing anything likely to get you arrested.
the state is less omniscient and significantly more incompetent than you’d think. overextend their resources at every possible opportunity. make them cry wolf repeatedly. run their data analysis agents fucking ragged. and strike. attack.
YES i’m a postgrad statistics researcher and i can tell you that the state honestly has NO IDEA what to do with the data it collects, it has an obsession with big data but it’s almost impossible to work with in practice. the traditional statistical approaches that are used can’t be scaled up, the adapted approaches are substantially weakened, and the machine learning approaches have the same problems and often tell them nothing. data scientists are only just coming around to these issues too, most still just push on with it anyway - incompetence is the word. above all this though, like you say, the biggest issue for the state is at the point of data collection. they will NEVER get anything useful if they’re collecting shitty messy data. they will eventually figure out that the real solution is working how to collect accurate and meaningful data, we should make it as difficult as possible for them to do that
This makes me think that we need WAAAY more apps that generate junk data
Apps that generate junk data? tell me moooore.
Ooh I know this one!
Ad Nauseum is an adblocker that stores the ads it blocks and continuously generates fake clicks, fucking with analytics and costing the ad companies money
TrackMeNot automatically does randomly generated searches on a variety of search engines to obscure your real searches and fuck with analytics, and you can set it up to work with anything that has a search bar (including facebook, twitter, amazon, youtube, etc)
WhatCampaign replaces analytics parameters in links with the string “FuckOff”. I thought there was a similar extension that used random strings, but I can’t seem to find it
Privacy Possum is a fork of Privacy Badger with a focus on costing tracking companies as much money as possible, and idk if my limited tech knowledge is enough to understand what it does but the description does say it falsifies some data so that’s good enough for me
@afraidofamericans
Boy it SURE would be a SHAME if this were SPREAD AROUND for everyone TO SEE
Fuck corporations, cost them money
IDK who needs to hear this but cripple punk is not shitting on physically-abled disabled people for being able to access accommodations that you have been denied in the past.
That’s not punk, it’s ableism, and you’re feeding into the exact same system that’s denying you your accommodations.

(I also swear by chia pudding! It’s very low effort, delicious, healthy, and always helps when my sleep and fatigue issues are, well… being issues. You can add as much milk/water as you want. I personally also make it with maple syrup and cinnamon, then eat it later with berries and nuts.)
We have more followers here so… here ya go!!
Saving all of this for when my depression and chronic pain get sucky. At least I’ll still be able to eat!
After a really bad experience last weekend trying to start Lexapro for anxiety and depression (the starting dose gave me a headache and fever, tremors, awful GI issues, and spiked my anxiety), I was nervous to try another SSRI.
I started on a quarter of the normal starting dose of Prozac. The lack of awful immediate side effects is so reassuring it’s insane. Here’s to hoping these work, and the side effects stay away while I titrate up to the next dose!
The queen is dead. I want you all to have the experience of being alerted via this hellsite
Y'know, i was thinking of something (shocker, i'm aware /hj). Someone, to be clearer.
Joe from Family Guy.
Everyone says that he was a good representation of disabled people 'cause "he didn't let himself be affected by it". To which i say: "so you think people who are affected by their disability are lesser by proxy of having a disability?".
But that's not even the point for me. The point is, he wasn't working despite his disability, he was working with his disability. He used his wheelchair to do basically everything an able-bodied person does, while, y'know, using a wheelchair, a disability aid. He didn't "power through his disability like a good boy", no, he worked around it, he was impacted by it and developed his life not by ignoring it, but by listening to it.
Also let's collectively ignore that now he's nothing more than a punching bag for everyone except for Meg 'cause we all know Family Guy is utter shit. /lh
No. Just no. Him existing while disabled is used as the butt of the joke, from mocking the way his house is set up to be adaptive and how his body functions, to the constant jokes about how his wife wants to kill him and/or herself. There’s a running joke about him wanting to die. There’s a lot of jokes about how people who can walk are better then him, and he is routinely called slurs and/or mocked by his friends from ZERO reason.
Disabled people EXISTING isn’t good representation when they’re depicted as suicidal burdens, and jokes are regularly made about how they’re inferior to abled people. How fucking low is the bar these days?
Hey does anyone else’s doctor call their ADHD “ADD” even though I’m like 90% sure the term went out of style in the 80s/90s? Like I got diagnosed in 2019 and my doctor calls what I have ADD… red flag?
Someone sent someone an F/M/K ask with you, Harry Styles, and Ana Mardoll (a trans author who causes drama on twitter).
huh. Well that's sure a thing.
and a weird fucking way to spell 'got harassed off of twitter by K/wiFarms and other queer people for the crime of "being annoying" and "writing about transphobia" while trying to enable zirself to quit a military industrial job'
They worked at Lockheed Martin for 15 years idk how much quiting they were doing
would love for y’all to live one single month as a disabled trans person in a red state and see how fast your elitist morals crumble when your choices are “take what you can get” and “die”
FOR FUCKING REAL
it's so funny that people will complain that the military-industrial complex is out of control in the US then think they can have a workers movement without letting in people who had unethical jobs.
Right?
It’s been this entire saga that’s actually demonstrated that my obsessive need to monitor if my behavior is “good” and having breakdowns when anything might be perceived as “bad” (that I got in childhood from an abusive parent) is not getting better BECAUSE my own community actively encourages teaming up with Nazis to try to get anyone they view as “less morally pure” to fucking kill themselves and I’m not mentally healthy enough to survive that.
And what this community views as “bad” is not always readily apparent, especially with autism. Do you know what it’s like to have to compulsively ask what jobs people think are acceptable to do? I’m still afraid that working for the NPS would be too close to law enforcement for some in the community and that they could flip on me.
if you take a 40 mg edible, drink a cappuccino, and pour yourself a cocktail at 9 am. you too can start making banana bread, pick up your phone to check a measurement, forget what you were doing, and loom over a bowl of mashed banana for 10 minutes without moving
btw if you’re starting college this week everyone else is also nervous about making friends. everyone feels lonely and out of place. and everyone thinks that everyone else is doing a better job than they are.
it’s a weird life transition & you’re doing a good job.
An addendum I needed to hear my freshman year - even if other people ARE doing a better job than you, you might just need time to adjust, or you might need extra help.
My first semester I was in weekly therapy, weekly meetings with an academic counselor, monthly meetings with the disability services office and my class dean (with additional meetings with him as-needed, such as the Too Much Sleeping incidents), as well as attending the weekly study groups for my class and talking to upper classmen about the work.
I still use some of those supports, especially the therapy. I have friends who use all the supports, or even MORE supports than they did freshman year. That doesn’t make us failures. The only person I know who failed was someone who failed out after a year and a half of rejecting all the offers of help from every single avenue.
Fun fact about ADHD I learned from my psychiatrist this week: intense and rapid mood swings is actually a common symptom of ADHD. In fact it used to be a part of the DSM criteria but was removed because the symptom overlaps with too many other disorders (for example, bpd)
Started Adderall XR today, after struggling to take Adderall IR because of how bad it made me feel after it wore off. Here’s to hoping that it works better!
If anyone has an idea of what to expect, please feel free to reblog with advice!
No, kids should not have unsupervised acess to the internet. Yes, I got that and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Its a paradox.
It’s not a paradox – it’s a different net.
When we were kids, the internet was a sandbox-style open world – full of dangerous things, yes, but also nearly unlimited potential – and we learned to be careful, and we learned fast, and we learned fairly well.
Now, the internet is a series of black box silos built by corporations to maximize engagement at the expense of everything else.
I may have seen Two Girls One Cup by accident and at the tender age of ten, but I never had to deal with companies using gambling-addiction-creating strategies pioneered in literal casinos to try and make me hand over hundreds of real dollars at the same age. I may have been exposed to vicious bigotry in anonymous and pseudanonymous messages boards, but I never had algorithms spoonfeeding me explicitly far right radicalizing content. The blithely unfettered access people of our generation had is just genuinely not the same as what kids with unsupervised access are getting today.
There were also like… actual places for kids on the internet back then. Real ass websites full of engaging content geared towards children that was made by actual people who cared about the product.
The corporate internet has pretty much leveled the majority of it and what hasn’t been leveled has largely been turned into advertising. All that’s left is horrific bot-generated content and advertisements and algorithmic slop. The rest is the Adult Internet.
There’s fewer curios and neutral spaces, fewer forums, fewer places that are topic-specific- it’s all on youtube or social media or tiktok or whatever. It’s all the corporate net, where algorithms and advertisers are enacting agendas on their users literally constantly.
Before, unsupervised internet was dangerous because you could find anything out there. Now it’s dangerous because of what you can’t avoid.
We know that Facebook is brainscorching your parents and tiktok is brainscorching your cousins, but some of you refuse to admit that you got your brain scorched here. However unlike those sites there isn't an algorithm here you just make bad choices.
Tiktok brain poisoning: directed at children, potential to be the greatest consensus engine in history. They're victims
Facebook brain poisoning: I guess anyone that old should know better but like that shit is deliberate. They're victims.
Tumblr brain poisoning: you decided to go on a hike and thought to yourself "you know what would make this majestic hike even better, eating this cool looking mushroom next to that tree"
I don’t think the concept of privilege is useless but i think there should be differentiation between “unfair advantage no one should have” vs “basic right everyone should have” when discussing Privileges online
Your resume being prioritized because your name is Joseph instead of Jose, and because your father is best friends of the recruiter as they go to the same yacht club that was segregated less than 40 years ago = advantage no one should have.
Getting pulled over for speeding without being shot dead by the end of the encounter = basic right everyone should have.
While I by no means want to side with Netflix or any streaming platform really, I will say that something I don't see brought up in the in the Pro-Pirating posts is that, at the very least, the pirating sites I'm aware of, don't have subtitles.
I am not deaf nor hard of hearing, however I do prefer subtitles on whenever I can get them. I am easily distracted and my mind wanders so being able to just see what the characters are saying keeps me from having to rewind a few seconds to hear what they said again.
But unless the site is dedicated to subbed anime, most pirate streaming sites I've encountered don't include subtitles. This is an annoyance to me, but to anyone who's deaf or hard of hearing it makes these sites basically a non-starter.
guide for subtitles on your pirated content!:
1. torrent whatever you want to watch (this doesn't work with with pirate streaming sites, you need a direct download of the file)
2. download VLC media player
3. go to opensubtitles.com and find the show/movie/whatever you want subtitles for
4. download the subtitle file
5. play the video in VLC
6. click the "subtitles" tab and select "add subtitle file"
7. pick the file you downloaded
8. subtitles!
i assume you could also do this with a mobile based video player, or any player other than VLC, just search it up on a case by case basis i guess..
definitely not as quick or easy as netflix's subs, but its free... sooo yea :)
Actually, a lot of streaming sites will allow you to load a subtitle file directly into the player. Even if the stream doesn’t have subtitles, opening the subtitles menu on the player will often give a prompt to load a subtitle file. The process is otherwise the same.
