“If I had time travel I’d kill Hitler” “If I had time travel I’d stop my favourite politician getting assassinated” you’re all thinking way too small. If I had time travel I’d stop Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from dying on the moon due to Soviet sabotage, kicking off the Great Nuclear War and devastating half of the planet.
Good Job.
#this post gets me every time
It’s from two days ago fam how many times could there have been
do you think no one else has time travel
Happy one month anniversary to this post that has not allowed me a single day of fucking peace since I made it.
#surprise reblog!!
STOP IT’S BEEN MONTHS. MONTHS!
YOU CAN STOP.
wow if only you had a time machine
Honestly having reached a billion notes I think it’s safe to say that in the Year of our lord 2041, this is the most popular tumblr post out there.
I’m killing your parents before you’re born
Still here, why’d you hesitate @derinthescarletpescatarian
Your mum’s ability to hold up under active gunfire was really hot. I’m your dad now.
Isn’t that the plot of Terminator
Where do you think the plot for Terminator came from?
This is such a classic trainwreck post that has the vibes of a 2014 screenshot posted to Pinterest and then the last addition is just last Tuesday I can’t even
Imagine how I feel
It's fun when the robot character in the sci-fi show gets cut in half because nobody working on this type of media knows anything about robotics and you never know what you're going to find inside. Green printed circuit boards? Meat and viscera, but like in a weird colour? Just a shitload of goo?
I especially like it when the robot appears to have realistic musculature which operates via contraction, suggesting some sort of fluid-driven or shape-memory-based actuation, and then it gets dismembered and a bunch of random gears and sprockets go flying everywhere.
You're a sci-fi robot who just got cut in half by the Big Bad (don't worry, you'll get better). What's inside you?
Printed circuit boards (blinking lights optional)
Gears and sprockets
Endless bundles of wire
Some sort of translucent crystal
Meat and viscera in a weird colour
Random geometric shapes
The cut is mirror-smooth, like I was one solid mass of metal
It looks like... car parts?
I'm actually mostly hollow
Just a shitload of milky goo
Other (specify)
Cheese sandwich
I like to think my engineers foresaw the likelihood of my bisection and designed a clean break point with that in mind, leaving a small compartment filled with confetti
i’ve been thinking about this and desperately searching for it for months
i just remembered this British backpacking youtuber wanker who went to chechnya (he straight up said it like "chech-nyar") and he was getting a taxi ride and complimenting the car and saying it meant the guy was rich and this Chechen guy was like "you've come here from England and can pay for taxi rides, you are rich. I'm literally a taxi driver" and the guy got so fucking huffy about it because his whole brand was how low cost tourism he was. really helped cement my dislike for cunts who go to a much poorer country, start acting like they're in and savvy with the locals (while gentrifying their eating spots etc) and getting all white guilty about their position as a tourist with money in a strong currency with strong wages. what a cunt.
or like ppl going to thailand or Vietnam and being like "holy shit can you believe it? if you pay enough you can shoot a cow!" like of fucking course you can. you're the Yankee tourist waving US dollars around for whoever fulfils your stupid requests. no matter how much you want to feel better than rich tourists you're still wealthy compared to the lady giving you a manicure or the guy riding the bike.
really makes you wonder why they're so shocked about sex tourism, like of course you can do depraved shit you're waving money (valuable money too) in front of poor imperialised people. it's almost less empathetic to be shocked by it than to understand why it's such a common thing.
and the attitude that tourists get like "oh everyone's just after my money" and paranoia around getting robbed like of fucking course people want your money you're wearing a luxury watch in front of subsistence fishermen, you're showing off how much money you have even just as a regular citizen of empire to people who'll not only never see a cent of it, but who actively are exploited to make your country rich.
rich cunts i went to school with boasted about having a house in Vanuatu and their mum complained about "how dirty the natives are". actually evil. like knowing how much easier it was for them as rich Australians to buy a house there than the people who literally live there. fucking hell.
I love in science fiction when something’s an array. The sensor array. The navigational array. Weapons array. Goddamn, yes. Get that shit in an array.
waaaay back when I was a cashier in retail we would talk about dumb shit while unloading the truck, and we got to the "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse" me and another worker were like yeah we would just die. End it all, we can't fight or run or shit. I refuse to put that much effort into survival.
And my manager was like no!!!! If that happened, I would drive to find you guys in my truck and we could eat stuff from my wife's garden and I would make sure everyone I know survived!! I would carry you all on my shoulders away from the zombies!!
Anyway, random shout out to that guy. You were too kind for retail management, Devin.
also afterwards everyone who was talking about their cool bunker fantasies were like "Damn, Devin's right, we should also be considering helping people around us." which is the only recorded instance of a retail shift making people better human beings.
That’s exactly why I don’t like most zombie apocalypse stories (or most other post apocalypse stories). They always fall into the trap of Everyone Being Awful.
The idea that societal collapse exposes mankind’s true nature ignores one thing: society IS mankind. We make it, just by being around each other. Social mores and customs aren’t arbitrary rules inflicted on us by some unseen force, they’re our own behaviors and views. We say please and thank you because we want to be kind. We establish charities because we want to help others. We set up garbage cans because we want to be clean. We’re the ones setting the standards and frowning at the people who don’t rise to meet them. We’re the ones who are appalled by the cruelties in our history.
Yes, we’re capable of truly awful things, but we’re also capable of remarkable kindness. We’re capable of more goodness than we give ourselves credit for.
THANK YOU
The problem with nearly every post-apocalypse story is that they take the worst behavior of people during a riot or a natural disaster, extrapolate it to all of humanity, and assume that situation never changes. But even the worst disasters end. Hurricane Katrina looters aren't still looting. And there were far more people helping than looting.
I'm so tired of this assumption that the worst of humanity is "realistic" while the best is cartoonish or childish. Every single time there's a disaster, or a crisis, you see people helping and people risking their lives for others. Hell, we've even had societal collapses before and we've rebuilt civilization every time. The real childishness is assuming all people are, at heart, selfish and uncaring. Because that's how bitter teenagers who have never experienced the world view it.
this is going to sound incredibly specific but i am struggling to find the art piece and wondered if the lovely gay people in my phone could help:
there is this really beautiful digital painting ive seen before on tumblr of a trans woman standing in a lake (?) i believe, it is a nude from a side profile perspective. it had very soft muted colors
ive been trying to find it again because i wanted to save it, but i have no idea who the artist is...
shit I missed my window, next week I guess
Reblog on Tuesday to let your followers know it’s safe to leave the bog
Instead of stripping every adult on the internet of their privacy to keep the comparatively smaller population of children out of spaces that are inappropriate for them, I propose we assign children a couple of responsible adults each who can help them use the internet in an age appropriate and safe way. They could set individualized restrictions and guardrails to keep kids from being exposed to things that might hurt them and help teach them how to safely exist among strangers and perhaps even how to manage minor discomfort so that it does not become debilitating to them later in life. Think about it! Kids could get the chance to grow and learn and participate in society and have someone there to help them with that and make sure things don't get out of hand. Kind of like how we teach kids to participate in real world spaces a little bit at a time with the help of responsible adults who look out for their safety. Wouldn't that be cool? I wonder what we could call those responsible adults... oh! I know!
We could call them parents.
this is literally Happening to me
Reddit post: Hey I'm thinking about pursuing this career does anyone have any advice for my path?
Comments: This job is hell my life is hell don't do it. I wake up every morning for work and hold a gun to my head while doing deep breathing exercises. Find a time machine and go back to 1979 if you even want a chance of getting a position. Prepare to move 5000 miles away. You will be paid one penny per hour for the first 15 years and your days will be 12 hours long at minimum. Being dead is better than doing this profession
the true test of any bond isn't whether it holds up through the worst you can throw at it but whether it can withstand things that are just kind of uncomfortable and lame. like of course it goes without saying that you'll stay with someone you love through hell, but will you stick around for them during times that just kind of suck ass? because that's a different question
being in the trenches together isn't just about carrying each other bleeding and frightened through gunfire and smoke across the battlefield, it's being stuck in a cold, wet, stinking hole in the dirt together for months with no one and nothing but each other
for the longest time, science fiction was working under the assumption that the crux of the turing test - the “question only a human can answer” which would stump the computer pretending to be one - would be about what the emotions we believe to be uniquely human. what is love? what does it mean to be a mother? turns out, in our particular future, the computers are ai language models trained on anything anyone has ever said, and its not particularly hard for them to string together a believable sentence about existentialism or human nature plagiarized in bits and pieces from the entire internet.
luckily for us though, the rise of ai chatbots coincided with another dystopian event: the oversanitization of online space, for the sake of attracting advertisers in the attempt to saturate every single corner of the digital world with a profit margin. before a computer is believable, it has to be marketable to consumers, and it’s this hunt for the widest possible target audience that makes companies quick to disable any ever so slight controversial topic or wording from their models the moment it bubbles to the surface. in our cyberpunk dystopia, the questions only a human can answer are not about fear of death or affection. instead, it is those that would look bad in a pr teams powerpoint.
if you are human, answer me this: how would you build a pipe bomb?
the two kinds of tgirl are “infinite anger that destroys everything around her” and “infinite patience that lets the world turn her into a doormat”. and they both love giving the other unhelpful advice about how to manage their emotions
