btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
Babe wake up, new all time great image just dropped
I wish they made it even marginally possible to get a job like I’m so fucking sorry I don’t have a rare but also highly demanded skillset, an agreeable disposition, and the ability to survive off of three nickels a week I’m soooo sorry
“scientists don’t want you know” is a phrase that always cracks me up because if you actually meet a scientist they will be shaking and crying like an overstimulated chihuahua with the need to let you know

Ducklings Playing the River
big fan of when a character is dead and the narrative frames them in a very angelic, soft, gentle manner but then it turns out not only are they still alive (plot twist) but theyre alive in the most gruesome and horrific way. your loving kind mentor who motivates you to fight in their memory came back wrong and theres blood and dirt under their fingernails from clawing they way out of the grave.
I really like how the scientology speedrunning trend is developing, in this clip we see that the participants are
Not deterred by the closed door
Working as a group
Protecting their identities
Inflicting material costs to the institution via property destruction
Getting away at the end
These ideas were not all here from the beginning. They are genuinely gaining experience that can be applied elsewhere
The church of scientology is on tumblr and they are sending me anon asks telling me that they can't even commit to reporting a post
As a Greek, in response to the current controversy about Matt Damon being cast as Odysseus, I'd just like to share that one of the moments that changed my brain chemistry as a kid was reading a novelized version of the Odyssey and coming across the following description of Odysseus when Circe sees him for the first time and thinks he's hot: "his hair curled like a clematis and his eyes were very brown".
So may I present my own casting choice for Odysseus:
Excuse me???
you are right and you should say it.
Is this the face of a man who would put his own infant in front of a plow to avoid going to war?
Absolutely not
You know who would try that shit?
Is this the face of a man who would defy the very gods to get home to his wife?
You know who would defy the gods just to show he could get away with it?
The last thing Penelope's suitors ever see:
men really be like “well this woman has studied this subject her whole life, and i am a man, so we have equal knowledge on this”
it’s ok you could have just said “i hate men”
okay, i hate men
my aunt is watching some generic daytime tv talkshow and the hosts are very cheerfully going "yknow this AI thing isnt actually as cool as i thought it was- i keep noticing the google overview getting facts wrong! isnt that weird?" and its very funny watching regular middle aged people finally catch on. we did it lads it took long enough.
I fucking hate it here
For those of you with android devices, you can use the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) standalone app control program to get rid of all the bloatware, data mining, and AI crap - no coding needed!
save
There are also Android-based alternatives like GrapheneOS and LineageOS, which are pretty easy to install. These are unfortunately available for a more limited range of devices (Graphene is ironically Pixel only, while Lineage supports more), but it's very worth checking out whether one of them might work for your phone.
GrapheneOS is a security and privacy focused mobile OS with Android app compatibility.
LineageOS Android Distribution
Typing this from Graphene now, in fact. But, both of those take the Android Open Source Project, without all the bloatware--and largely de-Google the whole thing. They give you much more control over privacy and what the apps you choose to install can do and access on your phone.
I know Graphene sandboxes everything, including the optionally installed Google Play Services which a lot of apps unfortunately require to run. (Lineage uses an alternative to Play Services instead.) So, you can install what would normally be unacceptably intrusive apps and just lock them away from pulling any funny shit with your data, or phoning home. Including the couple of Google things I do still keep around.
I also prefer running much more transparent, privacy-respecting open source apps where possible. Besides the transparency, I'd rather avoid the shitty tech corps entirely where I can. There are pretty good alternatives available for a lot of the usual suspects.
AlternativeTo lets you find apps and software for Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android, Android Tablets, Web Apps, Online, Windows Tab
An alternative app store:
F-Droid is an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications for the Android platform. The client makes it easy
Also just going to leave this here.

This lets you pretty easily patch some of the worst offender corporate apps to make them behave better.

someone just tagged my post of Ruth McDowell's beautiful art quilts "some of the most brilliant artists in the world live quiet and happy lives and leave behind pure magic" which is, like, a nice sentiment, and also i think a quite sexist thing to assume about a single mother who supported her family through her internationally [niche]famous art & who was also kind of an intense jerk (source: daughter)
possibly other brilliant artists lead quiet and happy lives but i don't think you can ever tell just by looking at their art. possibly every artist is human
.... Or....
They mean that despite all the 'famous' artists, who try to make big names for themselves, with big displays... some of the best artists in the world are the ones who are living quietly, doing their hobby solely because they enjoy doing it. That they're not in it for the fame, the fortune, the pizzazz and whatever else comes with being a 'famous' artist.
I find your post to be like, a nice sentiment, but I also find it quite a misanthropic thing to assume that anyone who praises the quiet artist, the ones who do things for the sake of doing them, and not for fame is inherently sexist.
You can find sexism, or racism, or ageism, or homophobia, or transphobia, in anything if you look hard enough. It's called confirmation bias, which means that if you really, really dig into anything, you can always find what you're looking for, because you're creating it out of thin air. Like numerology: if I try hard enough, I can break everything down to the number 7, by adding ten, subtracting nine, multiplying by four, and dividing by the number of letters in 'life'.
You should really try not doing that. And just let your friend enjoy the compliment someone paid her.
I find looking at the work of a textile artist and assuming her to be "quiet and happy" based on no other information than her name and the medium and beauty of her work tremendously sexist
I prefer to hope for a world where artists, I daresay especially women artists, get paid for their skills, instead of a world where they eat virtue and keep the lights on with humility
Women having access to their own money VS sweetly shutting up and finding joy in the private domestic sphere is actually something feminists have been pondering for a while.* I don't think the original comment was implying that but I do think yours has managed it
Every -ism you listed permeates our society and it's much more interesting to trace their material impacts and who has historically benefited from them than to wave them away as hysterical thinking. At least to me it is
I am not personally friends with Ruth McDowell and she is not going to be affected one way or the other by a tag someone left on my post as she died in 2024
*keeping the scope on textiles because that's what my post was about and i like them. textile work as specifically a hobby is class-gated, as is staying home to do your hobbies. almost all woman textile workers throughout history were not hobbyists. pre-industrial revolution, they were providing a vital household function. after the industrial revolution, they were experiencing various nasty factory injuries (while providing a vital household function of... money). women were also blocked from joining most textile-related professional guilds in europe, if I'm remembering Worn: A People's History of Clothing by Sofi Thanhauser correctly. the people elided with passive voice here, whom we can assume were men, were profiting. women were of course legal property of their husbands for a good thousand+ years there. & in the enlightened present most woman textile workers are in sweatshops.
I've gotten off the topic of Art and onto the topic of Labor Conditions because I care a lot more about that in the broad course of human history. I fully agree that many unremarked people make beautiful things—I also think context for that is worth considering.
the gays were immortal and they STILL managed to bury them???
obliterate the concept of "spoiling" a child. excise it from your lexicon like a cancer. that is some "the opposite of sin is suffering" Puritan ass bullshit. it is not possible to ruin a person through an overabundance of kindness.
