New headcanon that Seven climbed over that cliff in Dragonfire because at this point he's so used to being in some sort of cinematic mortal danger every 20 minutes that if such a situation isn't readily available, he's been conditioned to seek it out himself. And his subconscious has to be a smartass about it by making it a literal cliff-hanger.

Found the Doctor Who news very upsetting so I wanted to draw something. 15 deserved a proper exit, so here's my version of the ending inspired more by 7's final scene in Classic Who.

See, the way you make good Doctor Who is you set out a mission statement that you're going to make the show more serious or toned down, and then you accidentally hire the exact wrong people to make that version of the show.
1970 they went "we're going to make Doctor Who a more grounded adult action series" and then they got a hippie with a fetish for psychedelic chromakey to produce it.
1980 they said "we're returning Doctor Who to Real Hard Science" and our new head writer is The Computers Mystic.
1987 they had a mandate to take the show in a lighter more kid-friendly direction, and then brought in a bunch of 20-something comic book nerds who wanted to kill Margaret Thatcher.

My uncle was one of the top surgeons in the country. He was upper middle class definitely. When he got cancer, his insurance didn’t cover all the treatments he would need and after 5 years he drained his savings on cancer treatments (while still working most of that time) and eventually died because he couldn’t afford the expensive treatments that might have saved him.
If you are upper middle class and you get sick, it will likely bankrupt your family. It’s fucked.

Honest to god - even if you make 6 figures a year? you're closer to poverty than true wealth. Check your shit and remember who your real allies and enemies are guys.
A 6 figure income is a lot right? That’s say: 223,000 dollars a year Which is 112 dollars an hour. Most people would consider that upper middle class. That’s enough money to have a nice house, go on fun vacations. That’s slight more than the average doctor makes.

There was a wonderful study done about 15 years ago I think, that shows that people cannot accurately identify their income bracket. Most people who own a home think they are upper middle class when in fact they are closer to the poverty line. Even people living well below poverty often identify as middle class. The wealth gap is even worse now. I wonder if anyone actually knows their financial standing.

It’s not really surprising he didn’t though once you know the BBC was stringing it out. Feels surprising to us, but objectively in the Real World how could he have?
Do you have a rough budget? No. Currently seems unlikely they’ll fund it at all.
Do you know if the actors you want will be available? No. Literally don’t know when it could be filmed.
Do you know where it will be filmed? No. Don’t know which companies would even be involved.
Do you have the new Doctor for the regeneration? No. Because you don’t even know if there’s going to be a following series.
You do not know: the Characters and Actors, the Scope, the Locations, the ability to create Sets, Aliens, the future Doctor themselves, and even if it was going to end up the last episode or not.
And worst of all the BBC won’t even actually officially even cancel it but are saying ‘well if we get a partner’, leaving you in limbo, which along with everything else will come with more changes and restrictions you can’t foresee, including your own status as a writer for it anyway (and ones you won’t work with even if they did).
Can you write a fanfic for it, of course you can, but you cannot do an Actual Real World Script without knowing at least your rough guides for those things. Did he have the ideas? Sure. And time-wise this man is famous for bringing those together and being able to knock out scripts in a sleepless weekend - like Midnight. Writing isn’t the issue.
He fought constantly to get the damn thing to manifest and ultimately lost. Like debate whether he should have projected power or told us ‘i don’t know if there will be a next episode, i know it looks like ncuti killed it by me saying that right now but it’s better than holding out hope for a few years that might not happen’ fine, but acting like it’s some big stain on him that he hadn’t written a script that he clearly could not have written in any meaningful sense, is silly.
anyways, I'm still so angry over that Deadline article about Disney nuking Ncuti Gatwa's era of Doctor Who because of "woke" (not even kidding), because they received "overwhelming" feedback that the show was "too woke" for international audiences. It will never not piss me the fuck off how woke was/is literally aave for being politically aware that's been so co-opted by white establishment conservatives that this bastardised co-opted colonised concept of "woke" is now weaponised against Black people, people of colour and other marginalised people to justify casting us down and out. I cant believe RTD created a hostile environment towards queer work in TV, an increasingly internet based viewing audience, a investor environment uninterested in investing in long term television programmes, a declining viewership since 2014, a government uninterested in funding the arts, and streaming distributors being scummy and reneging on deals.
it was so fucked for Specifically RTD to get Doctor Who cancelled and nothing else couldve possibly been a part of it.
