Fyodor Dostoevsky, from a letter featured in Letters of Fyodor Michailovitch Dostoevsky to his Family & Friends
You know, there's this cliché that teenage boys always eat massive amounts, but teenage girls really aren't that different if they're not suppressed by diet culture and body shaming. Like, I was a teenage girl who frankly just stopped bothering to fit into mainstream beauty ideals at some point, and I would regularly make myself just one big massive pot of pasta and devour it completely. This wasn't even stress eating or anything, I just genuinely needed the energy because you know, I was a teenager and my body was developing. I feel like so many teenage girls think they need to eat as little as possible to be petite and pretty, but the truth is that your body is developing just as intensely as teenage boys' bodies. Eat more, please, your body needs it.
I spent my entire childhood being told I needed to eat more cuz I never ate much cuz I have a small stomach (and was texture and taste sensitive) then I hit teenager and was actually finishing my plate and going for seconds.

WHAT ABOUT DOOMED SIBLINGS
What if we were two sides of the same coin. What if i lived in your shadow all my life but found comfort in the darkness and dont know what to do once youre gone. What if youre the only person who understands. What if you have have no idea what i went through. What if we went through the same traumas but ended up with oposite conclusions about our suffering. What if i dont recognize you anymore. What if i see the ghost of my former self reflected through your eyes. What if it never had to go this way. What if this was the only way things were ever going to go
I hate ruminating on what could have been. Out here thinking "if only I locked in when I was 13" are we serious
I mean when I was 13 I was considering running away from home to get away from my siblings.....
Now obviously the hard part of launching a land invasion of Heaven will figuring out where they hid the hole. Finding the miniscule aperture, the hole in physical reality to which all souls are translocated at the moment of death, and then jamming something sturdy in there, getting it in reallll good and working it around until it's big enough to fit some guys with guns through. But the nice part is that the nature of Heaven means that, one, not many people get in in the first place, and two, none of them are good at fighting, because people who're good at fighting mostly don't go to heaven. Except us, when we find the hole. The point is that once we're in there's not much they're gonna be able to do. Pretty much we'll have free run of the place
Update! So we forgot about God
when i came out as trans i had an old friend from my church days message me to congratulate me and ask me for my name and pronouns. and i was shocked tbh cause he was such a head-deep-up-the-church’s ass kind of guy so i was super wary.
and after digging a little deeper i found out that he was very supportive of transness, saying that trans men are men and trans women are women
BUT
he also believed in the church’s gender roles meaning that trans women had to marry men and be submissive wives and trans men had to marry women and be strong christian husbands.
which is like ????
the weirdest and most surreal form of trans inclusive misogyny i’ve ever seen.
TRANS RIGHTS BUT WOMEN WRONG
no, actually it makes complete sense. In point of fact, it's entirely possible he believes what I would have heavily leaned upon to try to get my family to be supportive if I'd been binary trans. See, to fundemental Christians the world is wrong, filled with evil and sin; and all human beings are born with corrupted bodies. If a person can be born with corrupted body, of course they can be born with a brain that is incompatible with their body, that's merely the corrupted world forcing itself upon you in a way that will be fixed in Heaven/the New Earth.
this church is being heretical and ignoring their own beliefs, woo. unsurprising in the slgihtling.
oh. Wow. Ouch.
if the satanic panic was happening now a lot of you guys would be like “DNI if you don’t believe survivors of satanic ritual abuse at daycare”
have already been accused of being a fascist for making this post
I dare you to explain what "satanic panic" is supposed to symbolize here. Did you refrain from saying "red scare" or especially "war of drugs" cause you knew if you said that people would stop for a minute and consider before rebloging this nonsense post mindlessly? Or is this about survivor of violence or rape? Or just what tf is this about?
have you considered googling “satanic panic.” sometimes if you look up words you don’t know you can find out what they mean
just found out the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie where he's MPregged by Danny Devito with Emma Thompson's baby came out the year I was born, this movie is 30 years old, pregnant Arnold Scwarzenegger throwing a man across the room while saying 'my body my choice' happened 30 years ago
edit: video evidence, shout out to Evasive for dredging this film from the depths of my memory
I was just thinking about this movie a couple of days ago. I had thought it was like a 2000s movie cause I remembered watching it. whihc... considering my family is amazing. I was stunned to realize it came out a year after I was born.
still marveling over the fact that my dad MY DAD!!!! watched this movie
new millennial just borned
I would really like to see the arguments on this from the "pro-life at conception" folks.
What ethical mind twister will they deploy?
Are they okay with people freezing babies for 30 years before letting them grow?
Will they argue that this is fine, but abortions are still wrong?
Will they argue against this as being wrong?
How will they justify their logic?
Tasty, tasty discourse.
It was a pro-life group that did this. The reason that such an old embryo was used was that they believe it had a soul and that to destroy it would be murder, so they wanted to hold onto it until it had a chance to be implanted and grow up. Why would that take an ethical mind twister? Why would they be against cryogenically freezing people?
I think the closest Thing to "reasoning" that pro-life people, ESPECIALLY those that have struggled with infertility, would have about a long-frozen Embryo whose genetic parents don't want it to become a Baby any more, is that the subject allows them to Play Moral superiority for "adopting" a "Baby" that was "abandoned". Just like how they raise adoptees to hate or Look down on their birth parents (demonize people who would have aborted a pregnancy but couldn't because of abortion Bans, as murderers, and slander people who would have kept their children but had them taken because of poverty, as neglectful/abusive/irresponsible), they can now also raise children to hate where they come from because they commited the Sin of having tried IVF.
Lots of pro-life people are also, incidentally, anti-IVF, but this particular pro-life woman had IVF, which is where this embryo came from in the first place. They're not synonymous.
Yeah, most of my [evangelical] family is anti-abortion but pro-IVF which honestly really surprised me once I learned how IVF worked. Some of them are annoyingly also anti-adoption though. they won't SAY they're anti-adoption but when you tell them you'd rather foster/adopt than have biological kids they'll tell you "But they'll never really be YOUR kids." I fucking hate that stance.

I’m all for making stuff up when putting mythology in your story but it’s also amazing how many people can’t tell the difference between a work of fiction and what people who practiced a religion or a folk tradition at the time actually believed.
It’s like if someone saw a cartoon with a shoulder angel and a shoulder devil and said “The earliest forms of Christianity were based off of the idea that there’s literally a tiny angel with a glowing ring on his head and a man with little devil horns living on everyone’s shoulders and whispering into their ears”
Like no I think you’re completely misunderstanding the context here and it’s not the fault of the shoulder angel and shoulder devil trope that you’re getting all of your information about Christian theology from the emperors new groove.
Maybe.
okay that's a yes, so I must ask: what was it in particular?
People thinking that ancient Greeks got the attention of underworld gods by banging on the ground to get their attention.
The ancient Greeks generally didn’t try to get the attention of underworld gods at all.
Well it depends on who you’re talking about, right? There’s an Orphic fragment I believe that states that the writer doesn’t think that the gods are literal people but thinks that they’re just names we give to natural phenomenon.
There’s also at least one incident recorded in Herodotus’ Histories where he says a guy started arguing with him about which region understands the true nature of the gods.
People also used curse tablets to curse others, right? They spent money on those and asked different gods to curse people they didn’t like.
Now how many people thought that Hermes would literally curse their enemies for stealing their towel and how many were just going through the motions to make themselves feel better? We have no idea. We can’t go back in time and interview everyone in the ancient Hellenic world about what their personal beliefs were.
There’s always been a spectrum of how religious people are though. Some people are super spiritual and religious, some people don’t care either way, some people are strongly against it, and there’s everything in between.
Most human beings sit somewhere in the middle of this triangle. People on the extreme ends of it do absolutely exist and you might be one of them but most people aren’t.
And all of that is also often completely separate from how much someone participates in religious ritual and local cultural events. A person can believe something is literally true and never meaningfully participate in religion or ritual and someone can be actively anti-belief or not think about it and still regularly participate in religion and ritual.
As someone who grew up in a subculture of folks at the top of the triangle this is a Fascinating thing to think about it.
fnaf is such, a fascinating cultural object.
An extremely right wing pro life Christian weirdo attempts to make Christian video games but fails miserably and then immediately pivots to making one of the most iconic horror games of all time. Which is based on the Chuck E Cheese restaurant franchise. The game turns into a long running series with the most prominent reoccurring themes being stranger danger tropes, child death and mutilation, the things fathers do to their children, and the corruption of innocence. On at least one occasion he totally flipped out about people implying his work had CSA/abuse themes and called it degenerate. The series is incredibly preoccupied with the concept of immortal souls. It practically invented multiple other separate genres of online video media. Most fans of the series have never played it. It is now, functionally, a series for children.
Growing up with intellectual freedom from a parent but not freedom of movement was so weird. Yes of course you can read any political theory you want honey no you can’t walk home from school until you’re sixteen
Love my dad he raised me to be a critical thinker and obnoxiously well spoken but I didn’t know how to get to the nearest grocery store from our house until I was like 20
“You can’t go over to a sleepover until we’ve met their parents”
Oh I see. So no sleepovers then.
“If you’re going to the mall with your friends I need to know exactly when you’ll be done and when you’ll be back”
Oh I see. So no mall then.
I learned from other relatives when I was older that a) they also thought it was weird I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere and b) the reason I wasn’t allowed to anywhere was because my dad’s still undiagnosed anxiety problem convinced him that human traffickers like to steal blonde children and I was almost certainly going to get snatched off the street by an unmarked van or something.
wait this isn’t normal….? /gen
One of my cousins was just allowed to go to the park when they were ten. No supervision. People also talk all the time about going over to friends houses as kids so like that has to be real I think. People I knew seemed to be making plans all the time. They also learned quickly that I wasn’t going unless we could get back to school or the bus stop before I needed to be home because otherwise dealing with my dad’s ideas about strict schedules and checking everything and everyone involved wouldn’t let anything happen.
my mom was similar. being adult age didnt help. once when i was 21 i walked home from work on the nice town sidewalk [3 minute drive/20 minute walk] and my mom freaked out when i reached home because didnt i realize one of the weirdoes from off the interstate could've been driving around town and nabbed me??
