Happy Moon Landing Day! ❤️👩🚀🌛
Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
Hell yeah moon holiday
Ooh coming up we should celebrate
PITCH: We call it Moon Day, and then every 7 years when it falls on a Monday, that's an even BIGGER deal and we call that Moon Day Monday and go absolutely apeshit about it (the next Moon Day Monday is in 2026 so we have a couple trial runs first)
MOON DAY MOON DAY MOON DAY
moon day is 20th July!!!
Scheduling this a day earlier to remind you all and myself about the Moon Day tomorow!
I scheduled this in 2025 to give you all a week to make Moon Day Monday preparations! I think I will order a little rocket cake or bake some moon phase cookies!
It's coming, cousins. ...This could be as big as March 15th if we made it that way...

From later in that same book:
“Someday, if we won, if humanity survived, we'd be in the history books. Me and Jake and Rachel and Cassie and Tobias and Ax. They'd be household names, like generals from World War II or the Civil War. Patton and Eisenhower, Ulysses Grant and Robert E. Lee.
Kids would study us in school. Bored, probably.
And then the teacher would tell the story of Marco. I'd be a part of history. What I was about to do.
Some kid would laugh. Some kid would say, "Cold, man. That was really cold."
I had to do it, kid. It was a war. It's the whole point, you stupid, smug, smirking little jerk! Don't you get it?
It was the whole point. We hurt the innocent in order to stop the evil.
Innocent Hork-Bajir. Innocent Taxxons. Innocent human-Controllers.
How else to stop the Yeerks? How else to win?
No choice, you punk. We did what we had to do.
"Cold, man. The Marco dude? He was just cold.”
Tell me Eva hasn’t had that same conversation with herself when these decisions come up, thinking about how the girl she used to be would judge her for them.
“I’m curious,” I say to Stratt.
“Once we launch Hail Mary. What will you do then?”
“Me?” she said. “Doesn’t matter. Once the Hail Mary launches, my authority ends. I’ll probably be put on trial by a bunch of pissed-off governments for abuse of power. Might spend the rest of my life in jail.”
“I’ll be in the cell next to you,” said Leclerc.
“Are you at all concerned about that?”
She shrugged. “We all have to make sacrifices. If I have to be the world’s whipping boy to secure our salvation, then that’s my sacrifice to make.”
************
She turned to face me. “War, famine, pestilence, and death. Astrophage is literally the apocalypse. The Hail Mary is all we have now. I’ll make any sacrifice to give it even the tiniest additional chance of success.”
I lay down on my bunk and faced away from her. “Whatever lets you sleep at night.”
She walked back to the door and knocked on it. A guard opened it up. “Anyway. I just wanted you to know why I’m doing this. I owed you that.”
“Go to hell.”
“Oh, I will, believe me. You three are going to Tau Ceti. The rest of us are going to hell. More accurately, hell is coming to us.”
they’re having an auction of ALA “Read” posters and I need everyone to get in on this:
SIGNED Spike Lee? the iconic Nicolas Cage one? Xena and Gabrielle? the one that just says “SEX”? LeVar Burton?? and there’s so much more on the site like Fabio and a signed one with Mikhail Baryshnikov and one with Brandy, etc., etc. I wish I had money to drop on this
also the miiiightiest need for the GARGOYLES one

this fanfic shit is so easy
i NEED people to realise foreshadowing is. in fact. a literary device. and not a Bad Thing. the audience picking up on your hints is a Good Thing. because. it makes the story and it’s conclusion make sense. and some people will not see those but enjoy seeing them on a second read through. red herrings are one thing but if your novel consists of nothing but red herrings it’s not a coherent story it’s just a collection of paragraphs that don’t actually plausibly link to one another. you're not fighting with the audience you don’t look clever you look like you don’t know how basic fiction works. be vulnerable for once in your goddamn life and don't treat writing like a game to be won where the audience losing is a good thing.
Getting to the end of a story and going "THE CLUES WERE THERE THE WHOLE TIME!" is always joyous for me whether or not I picked up on the clues leading up
If I saw the clues and caught the hints then yes! I am clever and me and the author/creator/artist etc were in on it together the whole time!
If I didn't notice the clues or got fooled but can clearly see them in hindsight then "Ha! You won this time storyteller! I am delighted by this game we play!' and then I enjoy putting the pieces together afterwards and enjoying how clever it was. I feel like the creator respects me as an audience
If there is a "twist" that comes with 0 clues or foreshadowing at all I'm annoyed. I'm pissed off. I feel like I'm being condescended to and patronised. It's not clever or interesting and makes me annoyed I ended up caring about characters and plot points that ended up meaningless.
Because it's not that these stories don't have foreshadowing or plot clues. They just abandon it for a "surprising twist"
A story that pays off the clues is letting me into the fun and makes a participant in the story
A story that just gives me a "shock" but no pay off is telling me not to engage or get attached or care. So why would I watch?
OMG! THIS!
Random plot twists that don't connect to anything in the story are not clever. If we don't see it coming because the writer didn't provide any clues, they aren't clever and it's totally unsatisfying (and I will NEVER read this writer again). These clues need not be lit up in neon with a parade of elephants and showgirls. But they need to be present
I'm a writer and am rarely surprised. Often, if I am surprised it's because the writer was a dumbass and included a "twist" that makes no sense (and therefore isn't really a twist, it's just random bullshit). If a writer genuinely surprises me, without being an absolute dumbass, I am FUCKING DELIGHTED! I will tell everyone I know to read the book/see the movie/watch the show.
Foreshadowing is the reward for paying attention. It's the story letting you in on the secret like a co-conspirator because you're the clever little audience member who has been picking up on the clues the writer has been setting up.
It even makes watching/reading again more worthwhile because if you didn't notice the foreshadowing the first time you have the joy of being able to notice the things you missed!
Time to bring up the creator of Babylon 5, and sometime writer on Murder She Wrote, responding to people saying "We already figured this out", once again. Paraphrasing with a bit of quoting;
If no one figures it out, you're doing your job wrong.
If everyone figures it out, you're doing your job wrong.
Of COURSE some people figure it out, they're paying attention.
If you're doing your job right, and laying out the clues, a certain number of people HAVE to figure it out.
"The best case scenario is a bell-shaped curve. Some don't have a clue what's coming, some manage to figure it out, and the majority have a kind of vague sense where it's going, but there are still surprises along the way. If the bell-curve shifts one direction or the other, then you're in trouble."
Since people seem to like my pride outfit!
Woah woah this has 1000 notes. I'm super flattered and I will bench press each and every one of you.
I can't believe you're this many notes in and nobody knows you handstitched the flag.
Oh hell was i supposed to mention that?
I handstitched the flag.
I clearly should've mentioned it sooner.
There is a universe where we get to KEEP Ben as a member of the supporting cast with a dynamic like this.
And it is better than every Spiderman story Marvel has come up with since.
Amazing Spiderman 399
I suspect I am the only one who likes the Scarlet Spider costume.
Unlikely, I've seen very few people express negative opinions of it IRL
Huh, I have seen lots of people who say it's stupid.
I am glad to be on the right side of history, I guess?
The 2017 Ben Reilly series started out with him in this costume:
…and fans complained so much that Ben was back in the hoodie by issue #3.
Mr. Bennet: Sure, I haven't taken care of my daughters' financial security, but have I at least taken care of their education? No. But have I taken care of their emotional needs? Also no. But have I been a good protector and supervisor? I'm afraid not. However, have I been a good example for my children of being a kind and respectful spouse, parent, and all around human being? No again. But through it all, have I nailed being funny? Yes. And isn't that the most important role of a father after all?
I occasionally get people in the tags thinking this is a defense of Mrs. Bennet.
It is not.
Mrs. Bennet sucks too.
The most recent example that a few people have added:
She is not hauling ass. (And poverty is an exaggeration, they'll have £250/year.)
She is screaming "The house is on fire!" while she herself pours more gasoline on it and does not call the fire department even though the cell phone is in her hand.
She says she wants her girls to get married. What effort has she contributed to this goal? Let's review.
❌ She has done nothing to raise her girls to have good manners, accomplishments, or education that would attract good men.
❌ She has done nothing to save money for her girls, again to either attract husbands or protect them if they never marry. (And they were rich, saving would have been very easy, but she and her husband were too selfish and lazy to do it.)
✅ She buys her girls dresses and ⚠️takes them to parties. That is literally it. The only thing she does to help them, and she does it so poorly that she actually makes things worse for them with her poor manners and management of her younger girls.
This isn't even getting into how abysmally she does as a mother in terms of loving, understanding, supporting, and guiding her children in aspects of their lives outside getting married...
She hurts her girls just as much as her husband, just in somewhat different ways.
TL;DR:
Mr. Bennet sucks 🤝 Mrs. Bennet sucks
Does it count as 'sword in the stone' if it looks more like 'sword in the cairn'...?
you know, i was looking for "we could have kept him safe" as the earliest example when we shoudl have known ot3 was endgame, but i ended up earlier :
gil instant 'not letting tarvek dies' is way earlier than tarvek letting the "i'm only protecting him for practical reasons" mask slip
and honesly. as soon as tarvek and gil meet each other we go straight into the si vales valeo, and.
look at them.
anyway.
...yeah there's no possible excuse for ot3 not to be endgame.
To expand on the timing here: our first indication that Gil and Tarvek know each other is when Agatha says Tarvek’s name and a furious Gil shouts “That smug, condescending snake?!” The next page, with delirious blue Tarvek staggering in to yell at Gil (which Gil ignores to focus on his medical condition) is their first interaction in the comic. Gil declaring that Tarvek is not going to die is the page after that. And the page after that is where Gil decides, without any prompting, to risk his own life to save Tarvek with the si vales valeo procedure, despite Agatha spending that whole page protesting that it’s much too dangerous. Four pages! That’s how long it takes Gil to get from “that snake Tarvek” to “I cannot be talked out of risking my life for him”. As displays of enmity go, it lacks a certain something.
Well, it's official
SDCC 2026 will have the first Jem based Transformer with a Jem inspired redeco of Blaster and three cassettes (each named after character from the... shudder.. Kiss Players part of the TF mythos. Click on that link at your OWN peril, I have warned you)
Well, he's.... colourful! (Though I thought he might have a new name)

took me a minute. The way fozzy keeps dragging the case, it looks like he's still arriving when the others have stopped (and are now the muppeteers under the sidewalk set)
The absolute art and matching that goes into making a gag believable ♥️
i enjoy that every single human’s reaction to penguin is unrestrained delight
And penguins lack large terrestrial predators, so their reaction to humans tends to be, “HELLO STRANGE GIANT PENGUINS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DO YOU HAVE ANY FISH?”
I will reblog this on my deathbed.
Please let him science 🐧
i think at least half of the million reblabs on this are from me
There is an international treaty that says we’re supposed to stay 6m away from penguins, and it’s really difficult because no one told the penguins, and they all desperately want to wander up and say hi.
I think we should rewrite this treaty and let the penguins have a say.
