*pokes* does this thing still work
i always forget there’s a “stuff for you” page. Lol. the only “stuff for me” comes organically from the posts my mutuals graciously handpick for me to reblog like a 9 year old girl palm feeding sugar cubes to a horse. An algorithm could never do that
Reminder that jkr basically funds a large portion of the terf movement in the UK and promoting harry potter and actively giving her money is helping fund that movement and is actively encouraging her and her followers because they see this as support
Stop adding in the tags for ways for people to engage in this content without giving her money when i explicitly stated that promoting harry potter also helps support this movement its really shitty to see people turn around and go “okay but you can still engage and promote this content but this way because were only helping it stay relevant and not giving her money”
Since I apparently wasn’t clear enough JKR will not be deplatformed as long as Harry Potter continues to remain relevant and people are still reblogging this with tags with ways to promote the series it’s really disheartening that a fucking book series is more important than the safety of trans people
JKR claims that the number of Harry Potter fans is proof of how many people support her transphobic views. Literally, any time you post HP content, JKR considers it a statement that you're "team terf." Do what you will with this information.
She claims that people who oppose trans rights live in a "climate of fear" in a clumsy attempt to paint them as victims...

whish they told us this in school, all they did was say “feel for lumps, you will know when you feel it”
This is important, even if it doesn’t work with your blog theme REBLOG IT!!!!
Women need to know this, not all of us have ever been told what we need to look out for!
Not just for women either, men also need to be aware of these things!
This! It’s so important! For me it was swelling + discharge, docs diagnosed it early, and now it *seems* to be gone…
“Lapis is a metamorphic rock. The original rock is subjected to intense heat and pressure, and then … this.” She laid her palm on his chest, over his expanding heart, her touch reverent. “Beauty.”
(…)
Maybe she hadn’t said the words, but he’d recognized the gravity of her offering. It wasn’t just a sphere of stone, but—
Her heart. It had felt like her laying her heart in his palm, despite all her fears.

"But won't children be confused by all the LGBT-"
Yesterday I saw a mother with a baby carriage, being followed by a girl of about 4-6 years old on a bicycle. The kid started ringing her bike bell like RING RING RING RING RING RING RING, and the mother turned to look behind them to see whether they were being followed by a cyclist who desperately needs to pass them for the sake of everyone's safety.
And the little girl - who just rang the goddamn bell herself 5 seconds ago - also turned to look.
Kids are confused by everything at all times. They don't know jack shit. About anything.
i remember being like 8 or 9 and being told that my dad’s ex-wife was no longer diane and we were to address her as daniel now. my reaction: “ok.”
me and my brother later had a small discussion about whether that could happen randomly (conclusion: no, he probably had to file papers or something) and whether daniel should now be referred to as dad’s ex-husband (conclusion: yes but only to see the face he’ll make) but at no point did we find it like... alarming? the world is big and weird. we were used to it.
finding out a sorta-relative could just change genders off camera, as it were, was a whole lot less head-splodey than finding out there were no squirrels in australia!
There’s no what
Everything about this is a masterpiece: the girl that says “wow” and the girl that says “hi” shyly and bill awkwardly lifting his hand to say hi to them I’m cracking THE FUCK UP
The way they all immediately straightened up their postures like the fuckin pope walked in 😂 the sheer power this cool science man has over the american people is palpable
Pretty impressive that America has been at war for 20 fucking years and yet there have been essentially no anti-war films out of supposedly liberal Hollywood because it’s effectively impossible to make war movies without the consent of the US Military who only want to be depicted with jingoistic favourability.
…and no, “killing your children made our soldiers sad” flicks don’t count
There is actually a Director of Entertainment Media at the Pentagon and the US military will literally read scripts and only support the ones that portray them in a way they approve of. They will provide financial support, allow no-cost use of bases, weapons, military personnel as extras, etc. But they will also literally not cooperate and force rewrites if they don’t like anything. They’re literally controlling how the average person views the military.
Hey, bad news everyone! It goes so far past this.
^^^ this is all 100% but also -
Family members of military personnel are actively discouraged from speaking badly about the military.
The military constantly moves people (we literally call is PCS season), ostensibly so service members can’t form their own little militaries, but it also does a bang-up job of making sure you are always isolated and starting over (with the exception of all the activities the military literally allocates time and man power to running on bases specifically for military families, which obviously are very pro-service.)
If you give the ‘wrong’ statement to the press, you are losing your job. Might take a while, but the Army has all kinds of mechanisms to ruin your life while they wait to kick you out. That’s right. You can be bounced out of the military for having opinions and they will take years to do it in some cases. But you’re still legally obligated to show up to work.
Don’t even get me started on religion in the military. I can’t even count the number of conference calls I have been privy to that started with a Bible verse or a prayer to the Christian god. (PS, there are A LOT of Mormons in the military.)
Adultery is still on the books as a crime for military personnel! Hey, did you have sex with your new beau while waiting for those divorce proceedings to go through? Bad news, if your ex wants to make trouble, they absolutely can! If your boss doesn’t like you, they can open an investigation into when exactly you started ‘cheating’!
So while the people in charge of the military (best example I got are all those asshole admirals in Star Trek) are Very Concerned with maintaining the image of the military, there are a large number of people in the military who joined because they felt like their options were limited (it’s too early for a discussion of capitalism and how desperation drives people to do things they wouldn’t normally otherwise do) and now have literally NO IDEA HOW TO GET OUT.
The military does not prepare you for life outside the military. This is intentional. If you have somewhere else to go, you can leave. The military needs people who don’t have better options, and it maintains control by creating an environment completely unlike any other working environment. The experiences are not translatable to general office atmospheres. It builds arbitrary boundaries and cutoffs. It stresses unhealthy habits (I’ll link it if I find it, but ask me how many people in the Army starve themselves just to ‘make tape’) and deliberately keeps members stressed about their weight, their fitness, their eating habits, their free time, their families, ‘their’ soldiers, their soldiers’ families, etc.
As a military brat, I can say with certainty that yeah, absolutely.
The military completely fucked over my dad and my family.
The Air Force Academy has a football team, and my dad went to a game when he was 8. When he saw the cool blue and white team, he decided that was what he wanted to do when he grew up. Since he was 8 years old.
We moved around constantly, which was terrible for me and my siblings growing up. Making friends was really hard because what was the point? We’d just leave in a year or two.
Then there were the deployments.
My dad went on three tours in Afghanistan.
One for six months, one for eight months, and one for eighteen months.
My mother was working a full-time job while taking care of three young children. We used to have a rotating schedule for ‘bedtime buddies’, taking turns sleeping in my parents’ bed so my mom didn’t have to sleep alone.
To this day, I have no idea what exactly my dad was doing over there. He won’t tell me and my mother has said that he hasn’t told her much either.
It was definitely traumatizing though. Any time he heard loud noises, especially at night, his first instinct was to duck and cover. Apparently during a thunderstorm, my dad woke from a dead sleep, leapt out of bed, and rolled underneath it. It took my mom an hour to get him to come out.
Fast forward to 2014. My dad has served for 20 years. He could sign up for more years and possibly achieve a higher rank, but my mom wanted out of active military life.
Hey, so all those businesses that say they’re proud to offer jobs to veterans? Yeah, that’s bullshit.
What they mean is entry-level jobs. Minimum wage jobs.
The military works to make its soldiers jacks of all trades. Every job my dad applied for was rejected because he was either over qualified or not qualified enough.
The military had made my dad too proud to accept an entry-level job, but every job he applied for that matched what he did while active duty always ‘wanted to go in a different direction’.
We had to move into an apartment because of his loss of income.
For over a year, my dad spent every day sitting at his computer applying for jobs.
He felt like a failure as a husband and a father for no longer being able to provide for us.
His mental health went down from there. It was awful seeing the light leave my dad’s eyes.
One night about a year ago, after a little too much wine, my dad admitted that he had considered k*lling himself so that we could collect his life insurance.
And don’t expect the military to help you find a job. Once you retire, they don’t give two shits about you. Unless of course there’s a crisis, in which case they can actually call you back in.
Yeah. You can retire from the military, but they can make you come back. They don’t care if you’ve gotten a new job that you genuinely enjoy or that you’ve moved somewhere you’ve always wanted to live. You are expected to quit immediately and be ready for relocation.
And you can’t say no.
So yeah.
Fuck the military.
Hey. While we’re shitting on the Olympics let’s not forget the communities that are destroyed just for the events to happen
Vancouver is still feeling the effects of the 2010 Olympics, they did more to harm this city than any other single thing in my life time.
Don’t forget during the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, entire communities, majority Black residents, were displaced from their homes to make room for the stadium.
And Rio's no exception.
