This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.

OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.

And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.

Okay so summer is the time to tell ghost stories in Japan which is why so many summer episodes of anime have ghosts in them and even why My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away takes place during summer. And coincidentally it’s also the original spooky season in my own country, Denmark, where we have Sankt Hans in June which is said to be the best time of year to do magic and communicate with the dead.

We all know Halloween by now which takes place during autumn and is said to when the veil between life and death is the thinnest.

In Britain winter, especially Christmas time, is considered spooky and a time for ghost stories which is why British shows always have a spooky Christmas episode and why A Christmas Carol has ghosts in it.

What I’m getting at is, is spring considered a spooky time of year anywhere in the world? You must understand, I need every season to be their own flavor of spooky.

when my brother and i were younger, we watched a lot of moomins with our dad. we loved that show so much, dad built us a two floor moominhouse in the yard! theres a tiny moominbridge by it as well, but its flat and not curved, and not very visible in any of the photos.

on the ground floor theres a tiny table with two tiny chairs (i cant fit in them anymore, but when i was 7 i could!) with some flower vases and photo frames with screenshots from various moomin games in them. there isnt much upstairs but a few pillows and a blanket. ive slept there on two occassions. its really cramped when youre several adults/teens in there, but its real cozy

Koska viimekertainen saunapostaukseni oli niin suosittu, tänään tutustumme taas kiuaskivien ihmeelliseen maailmaan ja ladomme uudelleen kivet puukiukaaseen.

Lähtötilanne oli tämä. Kivet on ladottu miten sattuu, sauna antoi heikosti löylyä ja se oli vaikea lämmittää sopivaan lämpötilaan.

Samalla tavalla kuin sähkökiukaan kanssa kivet otetaan ulos kiukaasta ja kiuas puhdistetaan tarvittaessa. Vanhat kivet on suotavaa tarkistaa ja tarvittaessa vaihtaa. Kivet lajitellaan koon mukaan.

Näistä kivistä osa oli ehdottomasti parhaat päivänsä nähneitä. Muutamasta mureni paloja kun nostin niitä pois kiukaasta, mikä on merkki siitä että kivet pitäisi akuutisti vaihtaa. Jos kyseessä olisi oma saunani niin vaihtaisinkin kivet, mutta koska olemme kumppanin sukulaisten mökillä ja teen hommaa vain saadakseni itselleni paremmat löylyt niin en lähde uusia kiviä ostamaan.

Kivien ladontatekniikka on sama kuin sähkökiukaassa: isoimmat kivet pohjalle, pienimmät ylös, pitkulaiset kivet pystyyn. Täällä edellinen latoja oli laittanut kivet miten sattuu ja pitkulaiset vaakatasoon, mikä oli varmaankin osasyy huonoihin löylyihin.

Valmista. Kiukaassa on nähdäkseni myös ihan vain liian vähän kiviä, tulipesän päällinen juuri ja juuri peittyy. Tämä varmasti aiheuttaa osaltaan huonoja löylyjä ja jos kiuas olisi omani laittaisin siihen enemmän kiviä.

Raportoin myöhemmin oliko tästä mitään iloa.

Fun fact: they did leave Pompeii! It's estimated that the population pre-eruption was something like 20,000, and the most likely number of dead in is in the range of 1,500-4,000. So most people just did leave Pompeii, it's just that not everyone left or could leave.

I mean they were pretty stupid for staying at a volcano during an eruption. the volcano is the most dangerous place to be, in that sort of scenario

What you seem to not understand is that when volcanoes erupt the way Mount Vesuvius did, your survival is dependant on whether or not you're close enough to a ship when it happens. It doesn't matter how smart you are, your IQ cannot outrun a catastrophic volcanic eruption. If you're going to criticize them for anything, it should be their decision to settle near an active volcano in the first place.

Canon divergent AU where Shane is a little more paranoid and when Hayden first comments on "Boston Lily", he decides he has to do something to break up the pattern and make it not so noticeable that he's got someone on Boston.

Not seeing Rozanov is not an option, so instead Shane picks out a few other cities to regularly go out by himself in. He'll go for a long walk, maybe sit down somewhere for a drink, and then catch a taxi back to the hotel an appropriate amount of time later. It's honestly pretty nice, unwinding by himself in this way, and now disappearing after games is not a thing specific to Boston! It's just another strange Hollander quirk!

I lived and worked in a lighthouse at a previous job.  There was a thick line painted in a circle around the shack where the fog signal was kept.  The line represented how close you could get to the fog signal without experiencing physical harm in the form of eardrums shattering or worse.

Even in the house it was LOUD.  Probably the loudest thing I have ever experienced but at a normal, predictable interval.  You would begin to time your sentences with little pauses with the rest of the lighthouse crew so you would talk like this while making your………..HORN…………. tea and then carry on talking because you knew when it would go off.  It rattled the walls and the dishes in our cabinet.

At least one girl had died there. They kept photos of her everywhere “in honor of her sacrifice” because she had decided to take the winter watch alone and died in a storm where bounders the size of mini vans had been lifted out of the ocean and left scattered across the island, to say nothing of the ice chunks.  People weren’t allowed to be alone on the watch after that.

One day a dead moose washed up on shore and it took my entire crew all day but we managed to rig up a line to hang it up to dry because we thought having a moose skeleton in the house would really spice the living room up a bit.  It did.  Weird shit happens when six of you are left alone, like ALONE ALONE, no cell reception, no wifi, just a radio to contact the real world and not a lot of reason to do that.  People don’t go on lighthouse jobs if they want to stay connected, I’ve found.

That said Id do it all again, I really do treasure those days
