This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.
the point of fanfiction is to write something so self indulgent that nobody else has thought of it before or cares
Okay so summer is the time to tell ghost stories in Japan which is why so many summer episodes of anime have ghosts in them and even why My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away takes place during summer. And coincidentally itâs also the original spooky season in my own country, Denmark, where we have Sankt Hans in June which is said to be the best time of year to do magic and communicate with the dead.
We all know Halloween by now which takes place during autumn and is said to when the veil between life and death is the thinnest.
In Britain winter, especially Christmas time, is considered spooky and a time for ghost stories which is why British shows always have a spooky Christmas episode and why A Christmas Carol has ghosts in it.
What Iâm getting at is, is spring considered a spooky time of year anywhere in the world? You must understand, I need every season to be their own flavor of spooky.
when my brother and i were younger, we watched a lot of moomins with our dad. we loved that show so much, dad built us a two floor moominhouse in the yard! theres a tiny moominbridge by it as well, but its flat and not curved, and not very visible in any of the photos.
on the ground floor theres a tiny table with two tiny chairs (i cant fit in them anymore, but when i was 7 i could!) with some flower vases and photo frames with screenshots from various moomin games in them. there isnt much upstairs but a few pillows and a blanket. ive slept there on two occassions. its really cramped when youre several adults/teens in there, but its real cozy
photos are by my dad as well. hes a great photographer uwu
im so happy this is SO CUTEÂ

can we send up a quick thank you to pdf uploaders, torrent seeders, copy sharers, scanlators, fansubbers, digitizers, paywall dodgers, and various other internet archivers for making niche art and information more accessible in a media landscape where all but the most profitable mainstream are often tossed aside and left to rot
PS. TÀmÀ on hyökkÀys suomalaista kulttuuria kohtaan. HÀpeÀ Tumblr!
why didn't they just leave pompeii when the volcano erupted? were they stupid?
Fun fact: they did leave Pompeii! It's estimated that the population pre-eruption was something like 20,000, and the most likely number of dead in is in the range of 1,500-4,000. So most people just did leave Pompeii, it's just that not everyone left or could leave.
I'd have still left. the human body is capable of wonderful things in the face of danger
A lot of people died in the boats tho:/
I would have paddled away quickly
I take pretty hot baths so I think I'd be able to last a little longer than the average person
The scariest thing about pyroclastic flow is that if you can see it, no matter how far away it is, there is no possible way of surviving
I've done incredible things. I think you'd be surprised.
I know a lot about the volcano. they could learn much from me.
you should teach them
I will.
everyone who has ever died from anything is an idiot. I wouldn't have done that.
perhaps this could be chalked up to poor diet? I don't think explosions alone can do that.
their brains became AEROSOLS IN THEIR SKULLS.
what?? no
correction, some of their brain cells turned to glass, unless you want to bitch about the Smithsonian's knowledge base. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/mount-vesuvius-turned-mans-brain-cells-glass-180976073/
that just doesn't sound correct. they should verify this information
How about if instead of encouraging them we instead CHALLENGE them to survive a fictional catastrophe
Like there's no way this bozo is surviving the fires of ibis
not only could I survive that, but I could do it a second time
I mean they were pretty stupid for staying at a volcano during an eruption. the volcano is the most dangerous place to be, in that sort of scenario
What you seem to not understand is that when volcanoes erupt the way Mount Vesuvius did, your survival is dependant on whether or not you're close enough to a ship when it happens. It doesn't matter how smart you are, your IQ cannot outrun a catastrophic volcanic eruption. If you're going to criticize them for anything, it should be their decision to settle near an active volcano in the first place.
as was previously established, my large IQ can outrun many things, so I do not imagine a volcano would be that much more difficult

Question/gen if you jumped in the ocean and stayed under for a while could you possibly survive?
you don't need need to do all that. you will find the solution is much simpler
Please, share your wisdom, what is the simple solution!
you just leave
Canon divergent AU where Shane is a little more paranoid and when Hayden first comments on "Boston Lily", he decides he has to do something to break up the pattern and make it not so noticeable that he's got someone on Boston.
Not seeing Rozanov is not an option, so instead Shane picks out a few other cities to regularly go out by himself in. He'll go for a long walk, maybe sit down somewhere for a drink, and then catch a taxi back to the hotel an appropriate amount of time later. It's honestly pretty nice, unwinding by himself in this way, and now disappearing after games is not a thing specific to Boston! It's just another strange Hollander quirk!
Unfortunately, he fails to account for the guys on the team jumping on the most obvious explanation for all these disappearances, which is that Shane now has a girl in every port.
Word about this starts to spread quick, because it is so out of character for Shane, and pretty soon half the league is under the impression that he's some secret playboy.
Ilya is extremely not chill about this rumor.
I lived and worked in a lighthouse at a previous job. There was a thick line painted in a circle around the shack where the fog signal was kept. The line represented how close you could get to the fog signal without experiencing physical harm in the form of eardrums shattering or worse.
Even in the house it was LOUD. Probably the loudest thing I have ever experienced but at a normal, predictable interval. You would begin to time your sentences with little pauses with the rest of the lighthouse crew so you would talk like this while making yourâŠâŠâŠ..HORNâŠâŠâŠâŠ. tea and then carry on talking because you knew when it would go off. It rattled the walls and the dishes in our cabinet.
At least one girl had died there. They kept photos of her everywhere âin honor of her sacrificeâ because she had decided to take the winter watch alone and died in a storm where bounders the size of mini vans had been lifted out of the ocean and left scattered across the island, to say nothing of the ice chunks. People werenât allowed to be alone on the watch after that.
One day a dead moose washed up on shore and it took my entire crew all day but we managed to rig up a line to hang it up to dry because we thought having a moose skeleton in the house would really spice the living room up a bit. It did. Weird shit happens when six of you are left alone, like ALONE ALONE, no cell reception, no wifi, just a radio to contact the real world and not a lot of reason to do that. People donât go on lighthouse jobs if they want to stay connected, Iâve found.
That said Id do it all again, I really do treasure those days
you know you couldâve just said âno they donât have wifiâ and that wouldâve answered the question
But then you wouldnt have known about the moose

Daydreaming a story idea about someone adopted as a young child who comes of age to realize they have been raised, and loved, by the villains. And they're the survivor of a massacre their adoptive parents committed.
Just. A fun thought idea.
We love divided loyalties...
The slow realization that they have been loved not like a child, but as a trophy. But it was love nonetheless. Wasn't it?
the tags are a healthy mix of people suggesting fictional media in which this occurs and people going "did you know they did this for real in argentina?"
They do this for real in most genocides and large-scale wars. There's always a market for "adopting" the "orphans", with or without lies about their origins.
