I cannot disagree more strongly with this.

The people who say “you are not doing enough to make women and PoC welcome!” are psychopaths. Their only goal is to hurt people for the crime of being weak enough to hurt. They relentlessly spread lies, they take over the hobby and do everything in their power to drive out the people who once found comfort there. “Progressive” doesn’t mean good. You should have noticed by now that when your hobby or your company or your label is taken over by “progressive voices”, everyone becomes cruel, the culture focuses more and more on performative politics and then everything collapses when one of them is accused of sexually harassing everyone around them for ten years. This keeps happening. No more women and PoC are getting into the hobby beyond these psychopaths, and the constant lies told by these psychopaths are the biggest factor keeping such people out.

Do you not remember “Gaming has a white male terrorism problem”? Do you not remember how many somber-faced people put it out as proof that nerds are evil and sexually threatening and Must Do Better by bowing to the demands of psychopaths? Do you remember how lurid, demonizing, and obviously nonsensically false the stories it contained were? They don’t want to help anyone. They don’t want to make anything welcoming. They want to tell lies and hurt people who don’t have enough social power to stop them.

Politics devouring everything in the world is a bad thing. Once politics devours something, it cannot be used for anything other than waging Culture War and hurting the weak. It won’t be able to provide any joy or solace to anyone, regardless of race, who maybe wanted to go five fucking minutes without a psychopath using their suffering as a prop. But you don’t even have to go that far.

Do you want Muslim gamers to be constantly reminded of how awful terrorism is? No, you would consider that terribly bigoted. Do you want rape survivors to constantly have to be reminded of rape? No, you would consider that insane. Do you want all campaigns to have to focus on the tragedy of millions of murdered babies in abortion clinics? No, because even though there are people who fervently believe this is a tragedy, and an atrocity, you don’t want to hear about it and this is not the place to do so no matter how serious they think it is.

Do you want to have to be lectured about the tragedy of abortion every time you interact with the hobby?

Do you want to have to engage in purity tests about people’s opinions on abortion before you allow them into the hobby, which would be absurd gatekeeping and an enormous hassle?

Or do you want the hobby to not be politicized, for people to be able to interact with it for what it is, and not have issues performatively shoved in their face so that other assholes can make a huge display of how much they care?

If you want rules to protect people, those rules have to apply even when you want to break them.

Now, “Gaming has a white, male terrorism problem” is a loaded statement. On one hand, you try to pass it of under the “Gaming makes people into terrorists”-Statement, which I agree, is nonsense. On the other, it tries to rope in the actual problems of often white, male Gamers, who are extremely toxic and defensive against anyone outside of their group. Gamergate happened, and it was a movement by male whiners, who attacked women in gaming spaces. And it was (and still is, at times), very ugly. The call for diversification in media is also a valid one, as not being represented is just another way people are being treated as not welcomed. I’ve seen enough POC, women and others being ecstatic about seeing someone like them in the pop-culture, and how big an impact this makes is easily recognizable by the “Uhura-Effect” (as in: How many Women of Color in that Generation state, seeing Uhura on television blew their mind and set them on their creative paths).

The thing is: It’s politics either way. Not doing diversification, not addressing problematic people, and the like, IS taking a side. You can’t have “no” politics in something, at best you can drive around an issue and avoid it, thereby only having “little” politics in it.

And if the “politics”, that gets included is just, to please respect and tolerate people of all colors, genders and sexualities, so including everyone, except those who don’t behave, there really is little to say against it, without looking like a complete asshole.

Anyway, I’m sure this falls on deaf ears anyway. So I’m just gonna unfollow the person who reblogged this now. Best of Luck for the future, but please rethink this aspect of your life.

Your entire argument relies on assuming the things I called out as false are actually true, without arguing for them. The “toxic white male gamers” thing is a lie made up by psychopaths. The victim-saint at the center of gamergate, who convinced you that it was all about white male gamers, is a remorseless, inveterate abuser whose provably false accusations of abuse drove a man to suicide, who has never contributed anything to humankind other than bullying.

The framework you have bought into as the thing you must follow to be moral, is a framework that was invented by psychopaths for the sole purpose of abusing you.

In this moral framework, not screaming about abortion is just as political as screaming about it, so since it’s such a moral issue, games must also scream about that.

But maybe you’re okay with it because you bought into the glib lie that your position is obviously right and you can just assume everyone has to agree. So how about this?

You know what’s fucked up and oppressive and wracked with bigotry? The Israel/Palestine situation. Not screaming about Israel and Palestine is just as political as screaming about it, right, so you have to scream about it and shove your Correct Opinions in people’s faces. Yet, despite the fact it is a serious moral issue, there is no SJ-Approved Correct Opinion on it! So you have to scream about the issue, and gatekeep people for not agreeing with you, but you aren’t allowed to know what the smugly correct opinion is. But you can’t not bring it up! That’s just as political, and it’s bigoted and cowardly!

Follow the logic to its conclusion and you don’t get to game. You are only allowed to scream politics, to endlessly subject each other to finer- and finer-grained purity tests. Because your life and time are not morally permitted to be for your use. Your life is conscripted into their Culture War, you have no right to it yourself.

Because this moral system was made by psychopaths as a tool to abuse you. It does not make a space more welcoming. It does not make anyone safer or more respected.. It is not a path to be a good person. It is a path to use your desire to be a good person to abuse you and make you complicit in your own abuse.

In my experience, the more aggro and bossy someone is about how we all have a moral obligation to make the hobby more inclusive and make sure that everyone is welcome, the less likely they are to listen if someone tells them that they’re making people feel unwelcome.

I’ve been in a forum where I said, “Hey, I’ve struggled with mental illness and even thoughts of suicide since I was young, and the way you keep making jokes about how male tears are great and nobody cares about some bland white guy’s problems makes me feel really uncomfortable.”

And the response I got wasn’t, “Oh, hey, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, but I get why that would, I’ll try to back off.”

It was, across the board, “This is typical of how narcissistic people try to make everything about themselves! It was like they were literally reading from the “How not to respond when called out on your privilege” posts that they were always posting.

A ton of this is Heathers style jockeying for social power, people looking to position themselves as the people who define who’s in and who’s out and it’s only barely related to actually making people feel comfortable.

Another factor why these opinions, as exemplified e.g. by OP, is that they show a complete disregard (oh for the tragic irony) for the otherwise constantly touted and defended concept of emotional labour. And I will briefly explain what I mean by this; the abridged version goes somewhat like this: SJWs think that their target audiences for blaming and chastising (and that does not cover only straight white men, as we have seen) are so darn privileged that they have literally NOTHING ELSE going on in their lives.

Several days ago, I received some devastating news which severely degraded the moral standing of many people with whom I had strong connections, including even a person whom I used to consider my mentor and spiritual father, and made me lose all respect for all of them within a matter of minutes; naturally, this meant that I would also have no other choice than to cease all contact with them immediately. I spent the rest of that day completely drained of energy, and in an emotional state comparable to what it would have been like if all those people had literally died. And I do not know how long it might take for me to heal. Trust me, it was no trivial matter which came to be.

Why would I be saying all of this, though, in this given context about activism? The answer is easy. SJWs seemingly believe that people facing problems such as the above, and even worse ones, either do not exist or do not matter. The ideologue Heather [borrowing the term from @morlock-holmes] who insists on shoehorning SocJus activism into literally everything (typically considering that not merely a right of his/hers but rather a necessity) believes that we either never face serious, life-draining problems in our lives, or we can wave those problems away with a swish of the magic wand of our invisible “privilege”, so that we will magically have all the energy to be subjected to a never-ending litany of self-righteous condemnations, lectures, cheap jabs, and unfunny “"jokes”“ about what horrible people we are and how everything bad in the world is our fault and how we have to rue and self-flagellate for our gender or skin colour or sexuality or religion and how we are not doing enough to make the world a better place and need to dedicate ever-increasing amounts of our time and energy to their pet causes the “field service” which they prescribe for us. Oh, and, obviously, also to “”educate ourselves“” on why they are right, since (here comes the tragic irony again) for them it is unbearably rough emotional labour to even explain and debate their positions. And I repeat, this “we” of which I speak includes scores upon hundreds upon thousands of people which have to deal with far more serious and depressing issues.

Escapism is called escapism for a reason, but for many people engaging therein (myself included) it is not considered an “easy way out”, but rather a knowingly temporary retreat which takes us away from the troubles of life for a while (and, depending on its form, might even offer us great inspiration e.g. through stories about brave knights and warrior princesses in high fantasy and the like) so we may rest a while and then return to reality with more resolve and strength. (I’m sure C.S. Lewis must have written on issues such as this, but I do not wish to quote him at length here; not least because I do not have the time to search for his writings in detail.)

SJWs, however, do not believe that we deserve this “escape” even in the slightest. And let me be proven wrong if I am, but this attitude of theirs seems to be, among other things, incredibly ableist, whether they realise it or not.

If you feed a human body to pigs you have to remove the teeth first. Pigs can’t digest human teeth so if suspected the teeth can be found. I would recomend grinding them into dust and releasing it into the wind on a windy day :)
