Gotta say as someone who is a fan of kpop the amount of antisemitism in kpop fandom spaces never fails to piss me off.

Which i know I see it mostly on social media because those on there are either underage or jobless nobodies. But the amount of "free Palestine" and people getting mad at who produced music cause of "Zionist" connections is beyond irritating.

Also because the average experience on social media is with literal children, any attempt to ask them why Zionism is bad or is they realize they are being antisemitic is usually met with vitriol beyond measure.

Anyway just wanted to share.

People claiming "conflating Jews with Israel is the real antisemitism" always bothered me because I just innately had this knowledge that it was stupid, without really realising why. Then it hit me.

It's because I speak french.

When Robespierre demanded French Jews be protected whilst in foreign countries he referred to them as Israélites. Books that document Jewish history and culture in france and francophone areas refer to them as Israélites. When Napoleon removed French Jews' rights, he referred to them as Israélites. Old bible story cartoons I watched referred to Jews as Israélites.

In the dictionary, "Israélites" is literally a synonym of Jew.

In french, Israélite referrs to all ethnic Jews (of Israël, Ashkenazi, from Maghreb, etc) regardless of religion. The word "Juif/Juive" (= Jew/Jewish) specifically referred to people who practice Judaism, regardless of ethnicity (so converts were more often referred to as Juif, rather than Israélite, if they were not ethnically Jewish). "Israéliens" was used to refer to people of Israeli nationality, regardless of ethnicity or religion.

Over time the usage of "Israélite" kinda got replaced with Juif/Juive, as languages change, but it's still not entirely uncommon in literature and research papers.

So it bothered me because I grew up speaking a language that acknowledges Jews' ethnic origins being from the kingdom of Israel, so all I was reading was basically "it's violently hateful towards french people to conflate the french with france"

It’s annoying that some people don’t understand that evil people don’t do evil things because they want to be evil. They do them because they don’t think they are evil. The Nazis did what they did because they believed what they were doing was necessary and justified.

People have argued that this tendency comes from people being scared of the possibility that they might be just like the Nazis, too convinced of the righteousness of their cause to see what they have done. Maybe that’s true, or maybe people are just ignorant, either by choice or circumstance.

Who knows, not me that’s for sure.

Exactly this. Take the Babylonian Jews. AKA the Iraqi Jews. They were the descendants of the Jews who stayed in Babylon after the Babylonian Exile in 586 BCE, when the Babylonians under King Nebuchadnezzar II destroyed the First Temple in Jerusalem and dragged much of the Jewish population of the Kingdom of Judah into exile in Babylon.

Then, when the Persian Empire defeated the Babylonians in 539 BCE, the Persian King Cyrus the Great allowed the Jews to return to Judea. Many Jews chose to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the Second Temple, which they completed in 515 BCE.

However, there were Jews who chose to remain in diaspora in Babylon. These Jews are the ancestors of the Babylonian Jews of Iraq.

And there were even earlier Israelite communities in the region that's now called Iraq. These were Israelites who had been taken captive and brought to Mesopotamia after the Neo-Assyrians defeated the Northern Kingdom of Israel in 722 BCE and captured many of the societal elite. That is where many of the "Ten Lost Tribes" of Israel actually wound up. Many of the members of the Northern Kingdom of Israel who were not captured fled south to the Kingdom of Judah.

So, the Babylonian Jews lived in the same region (what is now modern day Iraq) for over 2500 years, ever since the early 500s BCE (and closer to 2700 years when we include the members of the Northern Kingdom who were taken captive in 722 BCE).

The Babylonian Jews had a rich and ancient culture and history. For hundreds of years, especially after the Romans destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem in 70 CE, the Babylonian Jewish community was a major source of Jewish learning and culture. That is one reason why the Babylonian Talmud is our main source of Talmud, and not the Jerusalem Talmud.

Babylonian Jews lived continuously in the region until the 1940s. They were, of course, always a minority population in the region. And under Muslim rule (starting with the conquest of Babylon in 636 CE), Jews in Ottoman Iraq were of second class Dhimmi status, subject to regular pogroms and forced to pay the Jizya, a tax on non-Muslims.

Then in 1941, Muslims in Baghdad carried out the Farhud, which was a violent pogrom against the Jews in Baghdad.

Over the following decade, the violence against the Jews in Iraq only escalated, and between 1948 and 1952, hundreds of thousands of Jews fled Iraq to escape mass genocide.

This was part of the overall flight of Jews out of the Muslim world in the late 1940s. In all, nearly 900,000 Jews were forced to flee MENA countries, narrowly escaping another Jewish genocide.

During Operation Ezra and Nehemiah, around 130,000 Jews were airlifted out of Iraq and brought to refugee camps in Israel. They arrived with nothing. The Iraqi authorities forced the Jews to leave all their valuables behind so that they could confiscate them and enrich themselves.

In this interview with The Book of Life Podcast, Australian Jewish author Sarah Sassoon describes her Babylonian Jewish family's harrowing escape from Iraq during Operation Ezra and Nehemiah, which she has turned into a children's book called Shoham's Bangle.

The descendants of these Babylonian Jews make up a significant portion of Israel's Mizrahi (Middle Eastern Jewish) population today.

Over the following decades, more and more Jews fled Iraq. There once was an ancient, thriving Jewish community of around 150,000 Jews in Iraq, which predated Islam by over 1000 years. Today, only around 4 Jews remain.

And guess what, kids! That is the very definition of ethnic cleansing: the expulsion, imprisonment, and/or killing of an ethnic minority by a dominant majority in order to achieve ethnic homogeneity.

I feel irritated when people bring up "genocide" every time there is a war. They have washed out the term in its entirety.

I tried to have a convo about Israel and Palestine with someone (forced into it because I have said many times that I did not wish to have that conversation, especially not randomly.). And he kept claiming that I was doing "mental gymnastics". He gave me zero points, I gave him multiple. He kept going back to "women and children". I asked if he knew about Oct. 7th, he did not. I mentioned how before that, Israel and Jews completely pulled out of Hamas territories. I brought up history, culture, even political structure in those countries. Guess who did not know ANYTHING yet kept insisting that I was the one doing mental gymnastics. All he had was a singular point that he could not even prove "Israel is killing and starving women and children." "Israel is depriving Palestine of food, water, and electricity!" I asked him if a foreign country should be forced to supply the country they are at war with or terrorists. Should Ukraine supply ruzzia with resources? Of course not. So why should Israel? Why should Israel supply anything to Hamas?? It does not make sense. It is anti semetic to demand jews to be perfect in the face of terrorists.

You should never use the term genocide when you do not even know what constitutes as a genocide in the first place. It is not a genocide, at least not currently, and it's painfully obvious how much people hate Jews to the point that the second Jews react to a terrorist attack, people instantly side against them.

It also feels pointless to have Israel v Palestine conversations because it's like no one knows anything about it, yet they are so sure that they are correct to the point where they insult you. Majority of these people don't even have a connection to Palestine or Israel in any way. These convos just melt down to "That's not true!" "I'm right and you are wrong! Ofc I have no actual arguments, just a bunch of empty claims, but obviously I am right because (insert emotionally charged claim)"

So let me get this straight, someone fakes a Jewish actors signature on a pro Palestine petition. During the time period where everyone thinks it's real, he gets hailed as being a real jew, being the true embodiment of superman who he played in a movie.

And as soon as the petition organizers go "whoops sorry it wasn't him. Someone just tried catfishing as him." People start digging to find evidence of him being a mega zionist. When they can't find any, they turn to his wife, who liked some anti hamas posts (not pro israel, anti hamas).

And now people are essentially creating fan fiction of this man's political opinions because he hasn't said anything.

If you think that someone having an opinion, speaking that opinion and wanting to have open conversation and debate about his own opinions deserves to die - you are quite literally a fascist.

To insinuate for a single moment Charlie Kirk deserved not only to die but to have not been killed instantly also shows how grotesquely perverted your moral compass has become.

You also have chosen to do no actual research into the man, being spoon-fed snippets that feed the agenda you wish to believe in. If you had ever actually listened to any of his full debates from start to finish, maybe you would have realized that Charlie Kirk did not love guns more than his children or even people in general.

To make that claim is not only a slap in the face of his widow and children but anyone who believes whole heartedly in the second amendment.

Those of us that believe and fight for our right to bear arms are not doing it because we love the objects that it applies to. We do it because we are defending a Right that people have been trying to take away for as long as this country has been around. We are passionate about our second amendment right because we BELIEVE it is a RIGHT. That we should have the FREEDOM to bear arms.

The quote you are referring to about him believing the second amendment required the sacrifice of innocent lives is taken so out of context it isn't even funny but worst of all, I don't think you would even care about the context or understand how it made sense even if I gave you the context. You would black out any and all of the explanation or logic behind what he said and focus only on what fuels your extreme hatred and fear of ever seeing anyone with an opposing opinion as human or with understanding.

Do you think having cars is worth 50,000 people dying every year? If you say no does that mean you need to stop using one? Using any form of vehicle transportation that isn't a bike or horse drawn carriage? You might argue that cars were not made for the purpose of harm but does that matter when you have giant heaps of metal weighing thousands of pounds flying down a road with little care about others or even the recognition that they are actually metal missiles?

But I digress on that. The truth is that in America, there are 1.5 guns per person including women and children, these are ones that we know about. If guns were truly the problem everyone would be dead already.

I genuinely hope you take all of this to heart and try to grow. No one deserves to die for speaking their opinion.
