I'm not going to be doing any selling or commission work-- I just want a place to catalogue my projects as I work on them and show off the results.

I've been crocheting for almost as long as I can remember, but I don't have a lot of time for it or my other hobbies (fuck chronic pain tbh). So you may see me sporadically working on random things as I try to branch out in my free time. My other craft hobbies include tatting, bookbinding, collage canvases, and more.

Question for yarn hobbyists, especially visually impaired ones: between knitting and crochet, which is easier to do by touch? Like, not in the “watching tv rather than looking down at my craftwork” sense, but the “I don’t realistically expect to have vision all my life and want to start an inevitable craft now” sense.

imo: if you're a perfectionist, knitting. you can nail it blind without mistakes, but if you make a mistake you'll almost certainly need help to repair it else you'll have to start over, depending on the nature of the mistake. if you leave in a mistake, the piece CAN unravel.

if you're not a perfectionist, crochet. mistakes cannot unravel your whole work. it's just difficult to feel out where the next stitch should go, but if you get it a bit wrong it's much less likely the whole piece is gonna lose structural integrity. you can leave mistakes in.

both of these have blind hobbiests who talk more about it online! id look for those resources.

There's also some variation in how the individual stitches feel. I'd say crochet stitches are easier to distinguish by touch than knitting (hell, when I crochet with black yarn, I'm using touch to figure out what the hell is going on) but as I understand it this may not be an issue, since for things like reading braille the hands are trained to be more sensitive.

For any of them with learning, it will be a bit easier to tell what's going on with a lighter colored yarn, so you can see the shadow. Variegated yarn might also be helpful since the color change shows how the thread progresses through the fabric

I'm convinced that part of it is because the way online tutorials teach how to do it is overly complicated. You do NOT need some X or any other weird configuration; it's as simple as crocheting around a circle of your yarn.
