So after extensive interrogation I have an update:

my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.

the truth is actually weirder

she’s aware dandelions look like this

she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions

she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?

she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.

“buttercups” is a name applied to MANY flowers. in my part of the south it was this one:

imo there’s correct identifications of dandelions, daffodils, easter lilies and marigolds in this thread, but buttercups are simply impossible to agree on and the only solution is for everyone to post pictures of their local buttercups

I do increasingly want to make an ace and aro anthology where cozy slice of life is OUT and Bad Rep™ is IN. Give me your aro and ace nonhumans, your alien species where no one has invented romance and sex doesn’t exist, your loners, your grouchy bad-attitude assholes, your hackers who feel more affinity with computers than other people, your characters who are deeply hurt when others abandon them for their romantic partners and are not gracious about it, your people who feel outside of their society, your characters who make bad and selfish decisions and conversely your characters who are dramatically self sacrificing. Give me military SF and postapocalypse and angst and drama and stories where a small research team goes to a distant planet and everybody fuckin dies. Give me ace characters who aren’t patient or understanding and aro characters who do not give a shit about romance, fictional or otherwise. Currently recruiting participants for ‘ACE in an ALLO world’, a photovoice research project exploring lived experiences of people who identify on the Asexuality spectrum.

Eligibility: Participants must be 18+, live in the UK, and identify as a person on the asexuality spectrum. We are intentionally seeking a diverse range of participants to ensure wide representation of lived experience across the ace spectrum and intersectional demographics.

Photovoice Research Project: Participants will be asked to take a series of photos that represent their lived experience over a 2-week period, in response to provided prompts. Once their photos have been submitted, participants will be invited to discuss their chosen images in an online focus group (5-6 people per group).
