The FCC sided with Comcast and decided to let ISPs censor the internet. The Internet needs to stop this from happening: http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/tellfcc/

Last Wednesday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a proposal for new rules that would allow for a “ fast lane” of Internet traffic for content providers who are willing (and able) to pay a fee. [1] The proposal reverses the FCC’s previous commitment to net neutrality and open internet and allows ISP’s like Comcast or Verizon to slow down and censor services that don’t pay the toll.

We have to be totally honest, this situation is seriously grim. But there is still hope. The FCC already knows that the Internet community wants net neutrality, but they think they can put their spin on these new rules and sneak them through. If we can prove them wrong right now with a massive public outcry, we can literally save the Internet once again.

We need to stop the FCC now. Big business groups are already ramping up lobbying efforts with the FCC in swarms since Wednesday’s announcement in support of censoring the open Internet and to ensure this dangerous proposal moves forward. [2]

This is a critical moment. In the last few weeks more than 65,000 people have taken action with us. Can you help us get to 80,000 by the end of the day today?

Ugin has proven to be a life-saver and a game ender for my own Superfriends deck, Tezzeret acts a second copy of any number of supporting artifacts (cough cough, The Chain Veil), and Ajani Vengeant is one I don’t currently play but I’ve seen other decks use him to great effect. This guy is house when used correctly! Deploy the Gatewatch has given me some of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had with the archetype, and I hope it finds its way to someone who can get a similar enjoyment from it. Finally, the Windswept Heath is included as a way to kickstart a potentially expensive mana base.

The Problem With Politics In Commander, A StarCityGames.com® Select Article, Written By Erik Tiernan, Published On 7/18/16.

This is essentially my stance on politics in Commander. Far more emphasis should be placed on boardstate analysis, threat assessment, and strategic play than on tactics that may only work once and create bad blood within a play group.

He needs to better define politics in order to have this discussion. He alludes to meta, especially within a play group, but I feel like the entire subject presented here is way too amorphous to have an opinion on. There’s no real stance hammered down here because politics, especially his discussion of Collusion, Alliance, and Manipulation, is something he immediately claims are part of the game or  basically “a cheap tactic to make weak Gems stronger.”

Like that doesn’t mean it isn’t still political.

And the number of players with stuff on the board is part of that board state analysis; and that lends it an entirely different hue than when it’s just a 1v1. Not to mention that players, I think especially in commander, are often playing to different ends, else why would Chair Tribal even be a deck?

The guy defines politics as any actions that are made to win the game without honest analysis of the board state and what your deck can/can’t do. (Trying to convince someone not to attack you or to attack someone else is the most common political move. He really sounds like he’s sick of hearing “BUT THEY’VE GOT X” which I understand.) Basically, politics is lying to other players, as opposed to simply bluffing. (In the case of Alliance, it’s the lie that you’re going to work together with someone else for any length of time. No, you’re not, you’re just both interested in removing other players.) I do agree he could’ve hammered in the thesis a little better by being a little more direct, but his point that this is harmful to new players is really critical. I agree for the most part. Politics in Commander is really boring and obnoxious, because it ensures that one or more players are doing suboptimally by making misplays if it’s done correctly, which doesn’t make for a truly good game. If a group sits down to play normal Commander, leave it out? If they want ridiculous political situations, try Totem Commander or one of the many variants with hidden player identities and such (Sheriff/Deputy/Bandit, etc).

But that’s the point: his premise is flawed by assuming all Commander players are aiming to make all the optimal plays to win a game. That’s the Spike-iest viewpoint on a format that has few Spikes in it.

Multiplayer Commander has politics because people aren’t robots; players will attempt to beat the cards they hate, not necessarily the cards that are currently beating them. Players hold grudges. Players take actions that they want to take, not actions that will bring them closer to winning the game (sometimes these align, but not always).

Directly dismissing political players as weak players also hurts the Commander community more than anything you do during an actual game. That attitude is gross.

I concur with this completely.Plus you get a lot of fun and dumb moments with politics, and fantastic stories. One player betrays his alliance and takes over the game. Suddenly the player he betrayed is taking completely different actions to try get back at their former ally. To the point of ensuring their own loss so long as that happens. Commander can be as much about fun drama as it can be about fun gameplay. It’s a format where just making the most “optimal” plays does not guarantee you a victory, and it definitely shouldn’t. 

Commander can have spikes, but the format is not made exclusively with spikes in mind like the competitive scene. You will get blown out all of a sudden because another play convinced someone to erase your board for whatever reason that was likely beyond your control. 

And I think that’s beautiful.

Why you should watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine

- Of the seven main characters, only two are white men

- Of these two men, one has dozens of hobbies which includes local food critic, sewing, yoga, and other traditionally non-masculine interests

- The other seems to be a stereotypical overconfident jerk, however most of his arcs revolve around messing up and having to acknowledge and genuinely apologize for his screwups

- One of the main characters is a middle aged gay man who isn’t a TV stereotype, who is married and lovingly committed, bringing up his husband in casual conversation throughout the show without it being the only important thing about his personality

- Every female character has a distinct personality, goals and fears and aspirations, and all have multiple episodes focusing solely on exploring their characters and development

- GINA MOTHERFUCKING LINETTI

- Terry Crews as a big buff doting father

- Humor that never relies on offensive jokes or stereotypes, that is genuinely funny with great comedic timing

- Multiple accounts of close friendships between men and women without any implications that there will be more

- The few relationships that do exist between the main cast are developed naturally over time

Dude, prehistory was home to some fucking TERRIFYING creatures. For some reason, everything back then was enormous and scary. Extinction doesn’t always have to be a bad thing!

And Poppy, what you saw was an arthropod known as Pterygotus (it was actually featured in Walking With Monsters). Not only was it as big (or maybe even bigger) than your average human, it had a stinger the size of a lightbulb. REALLY glad that bugger isn’t around anymore.

Also, Megalodon deserves to be mention again, because just hearing its name makes me want to never be submerged in water ever again.

AND THEN THERE’S MY FAVORITE, ZYGOPHYSETER, WHICH WAS THIS HUGE EARLY SPERM WHALE THAT ATE SHARKS AND OTHER WHALES

The reason why the animals in the prehistoric times were so big was because there was much more oxygen in the atmosphere if I recall correctly. Because there was so much oxygen and so few carbon gasses, life on earth was able to grow to terrifying lengths and heights, don’t forget how giant the bugs were.

Also important to note that megalodon is theorized to still be alive,possibly living in the darkest depths of the ocean. They haven’t found signs of its extinction

I feel compelled to note that Megalodon is not theorized to still be alive in the dark ocean depths. At least not by credible scientists. It was a powerful upper-water level predator that fed on whales as casual snacks.

That said, geologically its extinction is quite recent, so those things can be fun to dream about. 

Now then, for my contribution to gigantic life, another group has gotten truly, truly massive. Many times. Like they just don’t stop.

Purussaurus was a massive caiman from the Miocene, which is notably quite some time after the dinosaurs had gone extinct. The reason I’m using this monster specifically is because tons of giant prehistoric crocs came from before the meteor wiped things out, but this beast came after. Measuring in at a good 40 feet in length, pretty sure nothing competed with it for, well, anything.
