😂😂😂
Omg so many additions since I last saw this post! 😂😂😂
It's funny but incredibly telling how entitled/ignorant/insensitive some of these people are... idk if it's an education gap or purposeful ignorance.
The really bewildering thing to me is that I remember when you needed to get up and pull a dictionary off the shelf, or visit a library to look up the facts you needed. Now people have all kinds of information literally at their fingertips and they can’t be bothered to use it.
Oh dear gods, it's gotten worse
To be fair, there was a big push to return the stewardship of ireland to the Irish, that was a big thing that happened, and it technically never finished.
To be balanced, the ridiculous standard people hold strangers on the internet to continues to astound.
I'm still losing my mind over the ashkenazi one, i absolutely cannot.
LOUDER
I think the mentality of "why bother doing something if you're not good at it?" feeds directly into "if you're good at it why aren't you monetizing it?". At its core I really think its about commodifying every last shred of labor and experience.
Can everyone who reads this PLEASE reblog it?!?!? Libraries literally saved my life as a child!
Being abused at home, bullied at school and lost in the world, the library and all the books I could escape to the most amazing worlds, kept me alive!
I would walk to the library, and spend all day, from 10 am to 9 pm reading there!! I got special awards for how many books I read, I wrote little blurbs on why i loved the books (probably why I love to BETA and do ARCs)
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Just hit the green arrows and the reblog!!!
As a 50 year old woman, the library offers me so much. Digital art pads to borrow, 3D printing, book clubs that are face to face (yeah, the introvert likes face to face because a moderator will stomp on anyone getting snarky)
New books in LARGE PRINT! I’m visually challenged and as much as I love my kindle, The feel of a real book in my hands will always be a beloved feeling!
Our library also has quarterly books sales of almost free books!! For 5$USD we get in a day early and can buy as many as we want. Anyone else has to wait and there is a limit for the first 2 days.
Also many, many libraries have inter library loan(it may be called something different). This means if they don’t have the item you want, they can get it for you. This may include photocopy/pdf of articles. This can also include along with books and DVDs, microfilm/fiche which is also a huge resource. Check around for libraries that are listed as depositories if you want to look at government documents.
Remember that many colleges and universities have open stacks for the public. You will likely have to pay a membership fee but you will get to stuff.
I love the library ☺
The library was one of my favorite places to go as a kid and I still live to go and just. Sit and read. Or do homework. The university I’m at has a massive 8-story one I love to just wonder around in~ Great places

Student tips that aren't related to studying
Join as many workshops as possible. They'll add to your CV.
Attend volunteering events. Again, helps with the CV and getting free stuff+making friends.
Do yourself a favor and read 2-3 financial books. Learn how marketing works in stores so you don't spend unnecessary money, learn how to save money and learn how to make a meal budget.
Learn a bit of nutrition, it helps with mental health and how your body feels.
Look at job openings while you're in university/college so you know what skills people look for.
Invest in personal projects that could help you. Have a blog if you might want to be a social media manager or content creator. Have a YouTube channel if you want to edit videos and pictures. Etc.
Have some money aside for emergencies but most importantly, if you live in another country or another city, have money to return home, always.
When you start applying to jobs, make sure you already have most of the papers you'll need for the contract. It will save you time.
For jobs, apply to anything that you match 70-75%. If you're "the one", they'll call you. You don't miss anything out if you apply to something.
There's a hidden job market. Many companies hire only for lower positions because the higher ones are usually taken by people who work in the company already. You can ascend to other positions but make sure you enjoy the company you choose.
Take advantage of all the student discounts you have.
Hey you know how I said I was going to make a workbook on the kind of bullshit you need to do when someone you love dies? I actually did that.
HERE IS THE VERSION WITH LOTS OF SWEARING AT THE USELESS, SHITTY SITUATION YOU’RE IN.
HERE IS THE VERSION WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF BLACK HUMOR BUT NO CURSEWORDS.
Featuring Helpful Sections such as:
Death Certificates – What you need, why you need them, and how to get them
Prepare to spend a long and miserable time on the phone

Some Simple Dos and Don’ts
Shitty Mad Libs – Templates for writing Obituaries and Memorials
How to plan a non-religious death party
So you suddenly have to become some sort of hacker or some shit
This is an eighteen page book that you can print out, download, share, and give away; it is meant to be used to collect information about funeral planning and account management after a death OR you can use it BEFORE you die and give people information so they’re not stuck playing Nancy Fucking Drew while trying to keep seventeen cousins who crawled out of the woodwork from gutting each other in front of the fucking casket as they argue about who’s inheriting grandma’s favorite dentures.
It’s not exactly cheerful and it’s full of things that are probably going to feel really fucking raw if you’re processing a fresh death.
I’m sorry! I love you! Death is shitty! I’m trying to laugh about it a little and I hope you can laugh a little too because otherwise we’re all just going to cry together.
Good luck!
(in memory of my weirdo mother and her weirdo siblings who all died too fucking young and left me holding this flaming bag of dogshit)
This is so radically kind, thank you
You’re welcome!
Life is short, kindness is what we’ve got.
When my mom died it wasn’t exactly unexpected but it was still sooner than we all thought it would happen. It was a huge punch in the guts and the thought of making things and not being able to show her and share them with her still hurts but in that first month it was like drowning.
So I made this for her, and shared it with and showed it to other people who are hurting, because my momma didn’t raise a quitter but she sure did raise a softhearted fool who wants everyone to feel a little more loved and a little more worthy and a little less alone.
I love you. Take care. Be kind.
This is important, useful, and so very damn kind.
I have passed this resource on to a number of family members who have dealt with sudden death this past year and a half. Every single one, even the ones going through it for the second time in a year, have used it and appreciated it.
I just verified that the links are still working on this because of the google security update, but if you’re having trouble opening it let me know and I’ll happily reupload it!
There is a lot of stuff in this that is specific to the US about what is legal/possible in terms of burials, and the death certificate thing is specific to the US.
But the bits on “figure out which bills need to be paid” and “how to get access to the deceased’s accounts” and “identifying information you are likely to need to get stuff done” and “info that YOU can fill out before you die to make things easier for your survivors” is very easily modified for lots and lots and lots of places.
The “now you have to be a hacker or some shit” part in particular is what probably has the widest application.
ok so people are making fun of this but adding this with other anti-global warming tactics will work
This isn’t adding ice just for the sake of denial, it’s adding to the Earth’s albedo. This in turn actually makes the Earth’s climate cooler, and then more ice will be produced naturally because of this.
It isn’t a process we need to continue forever, in fact it’s one that needs to be calculated so that we don’t do it TOO MUCH. The only worry would be cooling down too much.
So yes, this is a good idea. It simply isn’t the only thing we should do because we still have gross pollution.
For the love of god do it . anything just do it. Give us hope.
Here’s the thing: Most environmental catastrophes humans have ever or are currently creating can be fixed. It’s not just a matter of “oh no, things are ruined, and maybe we can stop the degradation so that things don’t get any worse, but we’re stuck with how things are.” There are some things we can’t do, like bringing back extinct species. But there are a lot of other things we can definitely do, many of which are being done right now. The problem is that most of our willpower and effort is spent on bullshit tiny things that won’t solve the problem (individual recycling, etc.) and not on the large-scale things that can and will make a large-scale difference.
Ice caps are melting? Guess what! We know how to make ice. It’s not that hard. Designing mostly-automated robot ships to go to the poles and rebuild the ice caps is well within our current technical capabilities. We just need to fund it.
Deforestation on a massive scale? Destruction of other biomes? Guess what! We know how to plant trees. We know how to plant grasslands. We know how to take barren, lifeless land and turn it back into a viable biome. It’s not that hard. In a lot of cases, if there’s neighboring areas where that biome still exists, all you have to do is dump a few tons of biomass (plant clippings, food waste, etc.) on the barren land and stand back and wait. The biomass will provide nutrients and keep the topsoil from blowing away, and the plants and animals from the neighboring biome will move in. In two decades, even if you don’t do anything besides dumping the biomass on it, you won’t be able to tell what was the barren area and what was the still-existing biome.
Coral reefs dying? Now, coral reefs are a bit more fragile than most biomes, but guess what! We still know how to replant/rebuild them, and in fact are working on that in places affected by coral reef die-off! And we’re learning how to do it better every day.
Desertification? Guess what! We know how to turn desert back into green space. They’re doing it on a large scale in China and sub-Saharan Africa. There are several different techniques, none of which are even very technology-intensive. It takes money and time and labor, but it’s perfectly doable. We know this because we’ve done it.
Plastic in the ecosystem, particularly in the ocean? Guess what! There’s a lot of people working on this, both on “how to remove plastic from the ocean” and “how to reuse/recycle it more efficiently.” And the techniques are improving by leaps and bounds every year. This is a solvable problem. These are all solvable problems.
So if you’re crushed by the weight of the coming environmental catastrophe … don’t be. These are all solvable problems! We can stop things from getting worse, and we can fix the things we’ve broken. The issue is political, not practical.
On the political side, of course, is the need to tighten up environmental regulations across the globe. (What’s the statistic, that 90% of pollution is caused by 100 corporations?) And then of course, we need to fund these programs on a large enough scale.
In some ways the political aspect is the hardest, but consider this: we are at a tipping point. Things are changing about the way politicians talk about climate change and ecological degradation. More ordinary people are concerned about this, which means more pressure on politicians. One of the ways that things are changing is that people–even conservatives–are starting to talk about “job opportunities in new green fields” and switching the conversation so that it’s not “rainforest vs. jobs” makes political action a lot more possible. And no, it’s not going to happen on its own, but it can happen.
This is a solvable problem.
I *needed* this. Climate change has had me feeling SO helpless, having a list of things that can actually potentially be done is beautiful
hey reblog this if you think girls can study and excel in computer science
random things I do to fool my brain into staying interested during online study
changing my chrome cursor into something cute like a strawberry
changing my chrome theme to a wacky colour
adding stickers onto my laptop
listening to new music in a language I don’t know
or hyped video game music for energy
buying a fidget toy. like deadass I had my doubts but they’re so good
using the web paint extension while in meetings or lectures
changing the appearance of whatever note taking app you use
for epic gamers with light-up keyboards, changing the light’s colour settings
having a very hot or very cold drink
putting said drink directly under my face when working and using a straw, so I don’t forget it’s there and don’t have to move my head much to sip
hav u eaten or drank anything today hey hello it’s already midday
sparkling water perchance?? it’s water but it’s fun and interesting
ambient fireplace 10 hours loop
alternatively, death metal hardcore bass boosted.mp3
putting on a ridiculous outfit and pretending you’re a wizard doing important work. I have given up on being “put together” at this stage
getting up and having scheduled dance breaks to move around
don’t like your chair? are u gay and can’t sit normal? try arranging pillows and boxes to make a diy cross-legged chair or sit on the floor
u kno when you get a million ideas during studying but u don’t want to break focus: hey siri okay google alexa remind me in a sec about this very specific thing that just couldn’t wait 10 more minutes to force itself into brain
giving up. lmao sometimes you genuinely need a break and nothing you do will make your brain focus so don’t feel guilty for needing rest! it’s technically more productive to spend the time resting and recharging than forcing yourself to half assedly focus and get nothing done
tl;dr- changing appearances of devices often for Spice, having small snacks and various drinks, hype music for energy, any and all fidget toys, knowing when to give up
Saving for future reference
I saw this posted on twt but haven’t seen it on tumblr yet:
Y’ALL.
QUANNAH CHASINGHORSE
UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT.
BTS:
This deserves its own post:
The normal level of daily pain for an able-bodied person is ZERO, without needing to take pain medication, not even off-the-counter meds.
Not a little, definitely not enough to be "distracting but tolerable" with or without Tylenol. ZERO. (I'm shocked too every time I remember that the norm is to live pain free unless something happened to you, I know.)
If your baseline of unmedicated daily pain is above zero, you're dealing with chronic pain and you need to come to terms with that reality.
Babes, chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts over 3 months. That's it. Including pain that goes away but then inevitably returns. It doesn't have to be 100% persistent.
Stop scrutinizing and minimizing your own pain so much. It's not gonna help you OR the "actually" disabled/ill people you seem to think you'll offend by acknowledging your own suffering.
