sad about the cancellation so here's a stupid poem or whatever
i think my friends and family roll their eyes at my love for wylan
a silly character in a silly show based on a silly book
how could he possibly materialize any kind of meaning in the real world?
when i write about wylan i write about my father
a moment in time where i feel stuck and worthless and yearn to feel the grounding sensation of a heavy weight and music blasting in my headphones
i apply my messy complicated guilty feelings onto the page
on the nights where i need to remind myself his words are an underrepresentation of who i am
wylan stands in my place, if only for a moment
my experiences become his, and vice versa
when i write about wylan i write about my anxiety
because its okay to be the only one in the room who’s different
its okay to collapse on the ground in the middle of a road and not made to feel small because of it
our loved ones will not love us less if we show weakness
i'm not sure i’m there yet
anyone should be able to find people who see our shortcomings
but do not equate them to our worth
to find people who see our strengths even before we do
i'm not sure if my friends and family have made a connection to what wylan means to me
they may not understand that my passion and long rants about him are me screaming to be understood in a way i can’t always describe myself
and i have a feeling i'm not the only one
Thank you Jack Wolfe for bringing even a fraction of this onto the screen, everything you did showed everyone watching wylan was always safe with you <3
