THE BEEPS OF JOY
This woman tamed the deadliest animal on the planetā¦
There are now 44 cases reported in Minnesota, and all but two of the cases involve unvaccinated patients
If only there were some way to stop measles.
Oh thatās right.
if your vaccines work so well shouldnāt you be safe whether iām vaccinated or not š¤š¤š¤š¤
Do you not know there is something called herd immunity?Ā That some people who are immunocompromised canāt get vaccinated, that a mutation can make previous vaccines less effective?Ā
And if those arenāt clear enough
Itās fucking measles. I had it, my friends had it and we all lived.
http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs286/en/
https://www.cdc.gov/measles/about/complications.html
http://www.nvic.org/vaccines-and-diseases/measles/measles-vaccine-injury-death.aspx
Everyone that I knew when I was young got measles and I never knew anyone that had a problem but we all knew that it was a problem for many people because we were told of deaths and problems by our parents.Ā So when my children were young I made sure they got the vaccine since there was one.Ā Why take such a chance if you do not have to.Ā
But also do not take the attitude that there is no problem because we have not heard about it for decades.Ā They used to quarantine people with measles because it was such a problem.
Yeah it on kills 1-2 for every 1000ā¦so letās see if no one had their vaccinations, assuming only 50% of the population got infected ā¦thatās only about 250,000 people who are now alive who would be dead. Hell thatās only a quarter of million. Ā Yeah we shouldnāt worry about that. Ā
What kind of brain dead fucking idiot saysĀ āI had that disease and lived so you donāt need to worry.ā?Ā People survive the plague and cancer too. Ā Should we only worry about preventable diseases with 100% mortality rates? Or just ones that will kill loudmouth morons? Ā Just because fate was cruel and spared one idiot does not mean a disease is not a serious health issue.Ā
Ho-ly shit anti-vaxxers make me so mad.
GET YOUR FUCKING CHILDREN VACCINATED
āFuck the weakā is what I heard
I wish there was a vaccine for goddamn fucking anti-vaxxer bullshit.
I am not anti or pro. I believe each individual should make their own choices. And I am SO TIRED of seeing all of you behave like a bunch of crazed assholes to those who dare disagree with you. Please point all that energy inwards and work on improving yourselves. I know 1/3 of you smokes cigarettes. And 2/3 of you drink soda. How do you like to be screamed at and be called names for your choices that others consider stupid?
ā¦my drinking soda doesnt really have the potential to kill someone elseās baby????????
And like, it does shit to you even if you are not dead? A friend of mine has hearing loss and nerve damage from measles? What the fuck.Ā
1. I am an adult. I am capable of making informed decisions. Your infant is not. Vaccinate her.
2. My drinking a soda once a month does not spread viruses to my childās entire school.
3. Fuck you and your self-righteous false equivalency. Vaccinate your children.
@thebibliosphere I know your immune system is crap, pretty sure you are vaccinated but please be aware and careful
Also people please vaccinate your damn children if you are able to god knows I made sure I did mine. Even if the bullshit autistic link was for realsies (and its not, never has been and never will be) Iād rather have an autistic child than a dead one I donāt know what the fuck is wrong with people.
Oh no worries, itās US immigration law that everyone entering the country needs to have all their vaccines and subsequent booster shots or you can be denied legal entry. Presumably at this point to protect you from the Americans.
The Rainbow Railroad is helping gay men escape Chechen concentration camps. They need our help.
WHO THEY ARE:
āRainbow Railroad receives hundreds of requests for help every year from countries where LGBT individuals are open targets of violence. Because the volume of requests is so high, we focus our efforts on assisting LGBT people who have faced physical violence or face an imminent threat of violence, imprisonment, or death. We have been successful in helping individuals from the Caribbean, Africa and Middle East where we have local networks to support and validate cases.ā
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HELP?
āThe costs range as every case is unique. Sometimes the individual has the resources to help themselves and they just need information and support from us to make a move. Ā In these cases, the cost to Rainbow Railroad is staff and volunteer time to research and provide information. Ā In cases where they need financial support to get to safety, it costs about $5000 to cover flights and other related costs.ā

8 Things Autistic People Want You To Know
1. Autism is a fundamental part of who we are and how we experience the world and it cannot be separated from who we are as people. Autism is not something which is clearly separated from our identities and our personalities - itās something which affects every aspect of how we think about, experience and interact with the world around us. Autism isnāt something we have or something weāre suffering from, itās something we are. For the vast majority of autistic people, autism is a part of our identity which means that despite common belief most of us prefer to be called āautisticā as opposed to āpeople with autism.āĀ Do not tell us that we only have value if we can separate our identities and our personalities from autism.
2. The vast majority of autistic people do not want a cure, we want acceptance and accommodations. Do not put your time and money into researching how to cure autism and how to prevent it, put time and money into accommodating and accepting autistic people. We do not wish to become neurotypical, we wish to change society so that we can be accommodated, accepted and included as autistic people. Our goal isnāt to become as close to neurotypical as possible, it is to get the opportunity to live happy, fulfilling lives as autistic people. It is society that needs to chance, not us.
3. We do not support Autism Speaks or their campaign #LightItUpBlue and neither should you. If you want to support autistic people, check out ASAN or Autism Womenās Network instead. If you donāt know why autistic people donāt support Autism Speaks, check out the many resources linked inĀ this post.
4. Functioning labels are at best inaccurate and at worst actively harmful.Ā Functioning labels (claiming that some autistic people are āhigh-functioningā while others are ālow-functioningā) do more harm than good, not just because they arenāt able to give you an accurate impression of what supports an individual autistic person needs but because theyāre mainly used to either silence or invalidate autistic people. Autistic people who speak up about the issues concerning them are labelled āhigh-functioningā to invalidate what they have to say as being inaccurate and irrelevant for other autistic people and so-called ālow-functioningā autistic people are being silenced and spoken over because they are written off as too ālow-functioningā to have nuanced, relevant opinions or even communicate at all. Instead of forcing autistic people into one of two boxes, name the specific issues or strengths that you are referring to when youāre calling them low-functioning or high-functioning. Are they non-verbal? Say that instead of calling them low-functioning. Are they able to manage a job? Say that instead of calling them high-functioning.
5. Non-verbal autistic people can and do learn to communicate using other communication forms than verbal speech and theyāre all individuals with their own thoughts, feelings, wants and opinions. You do not get to speak on behalf of non-verbal autistic people. You do not get to assume that you know exactly what they think, want and feel, especially not when you have never made any effort to communicate with any of them. Instead of assuming that you know what non-verbal autistic people think and feel, try listening to what they have to say by reading the words of some non-verbal autistic people such as @lysikan or Amy Sequenzia or Emma Zurcher-Long.
6. Applied Behavior Analysis, the most widespread and well-known therapy for autistic children, does more harm than good. The goal of ABA therapy is to train and force autistic people into hiding their autistic traits by all means possible as if passing for neurotypical should be the goal of all autistic people regardless of what consequences it might have for their general well-being and their mental health. If you donāt see why that is a problem, check out this masterpost byĀ @neurowonderful.Ā Ā
7. People diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome are just as autistic as people diagnosed with other variants of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Aspergers is autism and to emphasize this, aspergers and other variants of autism have been united under a broader diagnosis called āautism spectrum disorderā in the DSM-5, Back when aspergers was a separate diagnosis, the only difference between whether you got diagnosed with aspergers or autism was whether you spoke before you were three years old - something which says approximately nothing about your struggles and abilities later in life. Ā The common misconception that aspergers and autism is two different things is just that - a misconception.
8. If you want to learn more about autism, listen to autistic people - not our parents, our siblings, our therapists our or caregivers. Autistic people are the ones who know the most about being autistic, so if you want to learn about autism weāre the ones you should ask. If you want to learn more about the different aspects of autism, @neurowonderfulās youtube series āAsk An Autisticā is a good place to start. Here is an index over all the episodes so that you can easily find the topic you want to learn about.Ā You can also visitĀ @askanautistic where autistic people are ready to answer whatever questions you may have about autism.Ā Ā
Please reblog this post. Itās time tumblr starts listening to autistic people.
Iām asking you to reblog this because I want this to go vital. I donāt just want this to be passed around inside tumblrs autistic community where we already know about and agree with all of the above statements. I want this to end up on the dashes of people who donāt know anything about autism, who havenāt thought twice about autism and autistic people during their time on tumblr - and that can only happen if you help me out.Ā

Honestly āqueerā is so useful for people like me w/ a ācomplicated orientationā b/c instead of having to say Iām āasexual panromanticā and explain what that means, I can just say āIām queerā and it tells you all you need to know (that Iām not straight).
yeah sure good for you but donāt ever ever use that word for someone who doesnāt identify as it themselves, itās not an umbrella term for everyone. also āpan/aceā would definitely work, even if you donāt want to use it, other people could. i use ace lesbian and definitely not the q slur.
Wow its almost like they were just talking about using it on themselves for individual reasons and you butted in to be an ass and be condescending because you think youāre superior for not using queer, then you called their identity a slur right to them. But that canāt possibly be what you were trying to do, right?
Anyone is allowed to use it for themselves, I never said no one should do that if thatās what they want. Queer is a slur though. I just want people to be aware of that, I have no idea if OP is aware of that or not but some people using that word arenāt. Iām tired of people including me and other people who donāt want to be included in that word, and before anyone asks, I never meant that OP did that, because I literally have no idea if they do.
Queer is a slur as much as any other LGBT+ word, I just want you to be aware of that.
āGayā is used as an insult. It is used to be demeaning. Its used to discriminate. And yet its used as the all mighty umbrella - gay rights, gay marriage, gay community - when discussing the entire community.
Gay gets used as a slur. Queer gets used as a slur. But I donāt walk up to gay people and say āyour identity is a slur, you know that rightā or get pissed when they say āthe gay communityā when they mean the whole community.
Personal identity and preference in terms, even harmful words that get used as slurs, are not questioned; except for the word Queer.
Queer gets shut down. Queer people get others in their faces saying āyour identity is a slur!ā Queer people donāt have the freedom to identify in a community, but are forced under other terms against their will due to hypocrisy and double standards.
So if youāre not going to come onto gay peopleās posts for the same behavior, maybe critically analyze why exactly you feel the need to be so condescending to Queer people, specifically on posts that ONLY have to do with personal identity. Why you feel the need to insist to Queer people that their identities are slurs, to directly slap away the power of reclaiming a word from them by demanding it remain in the hands of the Straights as a perpetual slur.
I think an important difference between gay and queer is however, that queer started out as a slur used against members of the community and continues to be used as a slur in many places. Whereas gay began as a word the community chose itself to describe itself and was then later used by homophobes and heterosexuals in general in a negative way, meaning however, that gay doesnāt hold the same negative connotations as queer for many people simply because it was our word that they took, and not a word that they forced on us to make us āstrangeā or āotherā like queer means.
Thatāsā¦. Not true. People think so because the history before gay was reclaimed is way older (older than any love community memberās lifetimes, probably,) but gay had the exact same origins.
It was meant to denote sexually perverse people, most frequently sex workers and those who hired them. Anyone who participated in anything but married, vanilla, straight sex might have been referred to as āgay,ā including any suspected LGBT person.
The word (already being one frequently used on the community,) was reclaimed as a community identifier when the community wanted to disconnect from the clinical and diagnostic implications of āhomosexual.ā
There is record of queer being reclaimed and used as a personal identifier literally before the popularization of gay. Both words are reclaimed slurs with negative histories, and BOTH are used as slurs against the community still to this day.
The more recent history of the mid to late 20th century more prevalently favored queer as a slur, as is represented in our media. However its clearly undeniable that the switch back to gay as the popular community slur (along with the ever present f slur,) happened in the 2000s. Which is trying to be denied and rewritten by the anti queer crowd, who completely ignore the words popularity with community members who actually lived through when it was a popular slur.
Yes to all of this. When it comes to words forĀ ānot straightā there are hardly any choices that didnāt originate as ways to stigmatize or pathologize us. We are all using reclaimed slurs to describe ourselves.Ā
Also, queer is reclaimed in a particularly empowering way. It doesnāt just meanĀ āsame-sex attractionā but encompasses a whole spectrum of attractions and gender orientations. Itās a word that says to asexuals, pansexuals, bisexuals, trans folks, genderfluid and genderqueer and genderless folks and people who are still figuring themselves out, āhey, youāve got a home here. We donāt need to categorize you to love you.āĀ
This is important because there are a lot of divisions within the LGBTQ+ world, and in particular cis gay men and cis lesbians often overlook or exclude trans, bi and asexual people. Queer is the only word that not only demands equal acceptance for everyone, but leaves the door open for words and descriptors that havenāt even been invented yet.Ā
Somebody else pointed this out earlier to me, and of course Iāve lost the post, but itās really suspicious that of all the reclaimed slurs, the one that gets the most pushback is the one that is most radically accepting of all identities
āhey, youāve got a home here. We donāt need to categorize you to love you.ā
Lmao yeah! the pushback against this idea is overt and disgusting and I donāt trust anybody who perpetuates it.Ā
Queer is an ideology and an identity, historically and now. It is an umbrella for that ideology and an umbrella for those identities, historically and now. They canāt be conflated (with LGBT) and itās super fucking disingenuous to pretend one is just the tarnished besmirched dirty slur version of the other. Theyāre different. In my particular work for example, Queer bioethics is different from LGBT bioethics and conflating the two will muddle any discussion you try to have about them because they lead to literally oppositeĀ conclusions in some cases.Ā
Yeah I freaking love pancakes
Wait wrong post
By far the best addition to this post
This is one of those things where I feel like an old. Like, *the* slogan I associate with pride is, āWeāre here, weāre queer ā get used to it!ā There was a TV show called āQueer Eye for the Straight Guyā that was total mainstream pap. (Not that the show wasnāt riddles problematic elements from the concept out, but āqueerā in the title was clearly meant as a positive.) I just have a hard time processing queer as anything but reclaimed.
They actually shot āQueer As Folkā in my city!
TERFs and radical gender/sexuality bianarists are flooding social media and blogging sites with propaganda smearing the word queer in the hopes of silencing all of us who donāt identify with their hate politics. I fought hard to reclaim the word queer in the late 80s and early 90s, and itās the one word that doesnāt worship exclusion. Which is why these people are trying to convince you not to use it. fuck that noise. there is literally no word i could use to identify my sexuality that hasnāt been thrown at me in hatred, fear, and violence. No way am I giving up the one of those that allows me to talk about all of my community without trying to put people in boxes they donāt fit in.
I will never not reblog this post. Queer, queer, queer here.Ā
āQueerā has been claimed by queer people as a self-descriptor since at least 1910. Itās an insult to those historical people (and all the generations of queer historical people who have identified as queer since then) to pretend that the people using it as a slur owned it more than the queer people who used it as a self-descriptor.
Source: George Chauncey, āGay New York,ā page 101
They donāt want us to use queer because they donāt want to be lumped in with anyone whoās not cis gay or cis lesbian. So fine. You donāt like the word queer? You donāt want to be in the āqueerā community? Get the fuck out, then. Y'all donāt welcome us in your community anyway, so weāll just have our own.
And itāll be queer as fuck.
I fucking love the word queer ā¤
Or, to put it another way, using a great old slogan of the community: Iām not gay as in happy, Iām queer as in fuck you.
Yes yes yes yes yes! These younglings today donāt know their queer history but feel so free to comment on it. Trying so desperately to assimilate into straight culture by turning your nose up at queer, and all the people who take refuge under its umbrella.Ā Queer accepted me when nobody else would, not even the LGBT groups.Ā
Queer is full of the types of people who donāt make good poster children for the middle class assimilationist cis gay couple just looking to get married and have some kids. Queer forces us to realize the fight didnāt end with gay marriage, and cis gays are gonna have to step out of the spotlight sometimes, and realize cis gays have privilege, and fight for someone with less.Ā Trans people, nonbinary people, people in nontraditional relationship structures, aromantics, asexuals, sex workers. Heck more and more bisexual people these days are switching over to queer because the amount of biphobia in the so-called lgBt community is so alienating, and also because so many of us feel the term bisexual reinforces a false gender dichotomy and weāre too tired of jokes about kitchenware to use pansexual.
Part of what I love about the term queer is that it does make people uncomfortable. It makes them aware of their privilege, exposes certain biases, even within the LGBT community. Whatās so wrong with a movement that strives to fight for everybody, huh? Huh?
I'm queer. I'm queer.
