2025 Writing Snippets

I decided to live, so here I am, yay!

"Tell Them How It Ended" is an unfinished series of scenes based on @/rahrah's TTRPG of the same name. I wasn't feeling mentally well in uhhh late January, so I wrote a bunch of scenes of my self-insert OC, Kade, with several characters he's in a relationship in. I like all the scenes I wrote, but these two, Sid and Epiales, made me weep.

Of course, "Aeternitas" is back. I call this an epilogue, but I lied to myself. In April, I wrote a few scenes between Kade and Saleh (from Tales of Rebirth 😳). I just really like difficult characters.

"Starpoints Academy" was a really involved high school AU that I made for my Aeternitas OCs. I made a whole dice rolling system and everything so that I could randomize scenes. It was both terrible and exhilarating. I only wrote one school week before I was exhausted.

"help, my poetry was published in june, but I was too depressed to notice til september" was just me having a mental breakdown in the form of a poem. "my heart is full of you" is a poem I wrote after playing @loveafterdeath-if because i had way too many feelings about both this game and my own OCs.

"2025 Drabbles" is the continuation of my Sparkle Star Galaxy project, specifically my self-imposed challenge of writing a scene about a character on their birthday. Beau is my OC, and Seth is my sister's @juliettelime OC.

Anyway, I decided to embrace full cringe with the last scene. I just really love Zelos, he really is my number one. It's not just that he's my comfort character, but the idea of him helped pull me through every major terrible event of my life since 2004. Something about knowing his trauma helped me through my own trauma.

And so, I've decided to keep living. Let's keep going.

Watched a documentary about abuse and advice one guy said to give children was, "Tell them that if someone is hurting them, to tell someone - and don't just tell one person. Tell as many people as possible, and keep telling as many people as possible until the abuse stops." and i really liked that

Bc so many ppl focus on the idea of telling A Trusted Adult, but even a well-meaning individual can fuck up and let abuse fall through the cracks or not know what to do

Whereas if a child tells LOADS of adults AND other kids, there's far less opportunity for an abuser to do damage control

Consistently telling their story and spreading it around disempowers the abuser to control and coerce the flow of information, or to utilise gaps and weaknesses in systems of reporting or welfare to isolate the child

Just really good advice. Not suprised I don't hear it more often.

Seeing my notifications get flooded with this every July 4th is the only thing I respect about America

the phrase "but i didn't mean to!" in the context of causing harm is kind of redundant to me, because almost nobody means to cause harm. most of us just want to do the right thing. and i don't mean that in a wishy-washy "oh, we're all good deep down" way, i mean that even people who regularly do the most heinous shit imaginable will have a way of justifying it to themselves. the world is not populated by hollywood sadists and psychopaths.

actually i have been thinking about this some more and i want to add on to it:

abuse in caregiving professions (like teaching or nursing) is not solely a result of power dynamics. it's also because people who go into those professions often have a idea of themselves as Good People, and are consequently incapable of recognising or acknowledging when they've hurt someone else. instead, they mentally put 'people who have inconvenienced me' into the Bad People box so they can freely abuse them while maintaining their moral high ground.

i read ross greene a lot when i was working with "difficult" or "behaviourally challenged" children. his refrain is "kids do well if they can" - meaning, in short, that most kids act out only when the demands of a situation exceed their capabilities. punishing them for this is not only cruel but also completely pointless, because they also don't want to be doing what they are doing.

a teacher who believes that there are two categories of people - Good People who Mean Well, and Bad People who Cause Problems on Purpose - is not going to see it that way. they're gonna put themselves in the first category, and the misbehaving kid in the second category. and once they have effectively depersoned the child and placed themselves on a pedestal, the world becomes simple again. because abuse is something that only Bad People do.

I don't know whether or not this is true, but I'm reblogging this because we live in a world where the third search result when I tried researching the validity of this information was a link to an article about a weight loss product.

The second search result had included the slur "ob*se" in the title of the article.

There are seriously people who tell me fat people aren't oppressed. Meanwhile, trying to find information about how to keep a fat person from drying in a car crash is met with links to products that make dirty money off of how society views my body.

I immediately gave up trying to research this.

since there is such an "english speakers who don't even try to pronounce a foreign mame correctly" epidemic, native english speakers often try to overcorrect and end up thinking they have a moral imperative to pronounce every foreign name correctly at all times. so i'm gonna hold your hand and look into your eyss as i say this: you can't. you can't pronounce every sound in a language you don't speak. and that's fine. it happens to the rest of us too. we won't be mad so long as you try your best.

“I did some research to pronounce this name correctly” = 👍 great! even if the pronunciation was still off (and learning to pronounce a foreign language correctly takes a lot of practice) people generally appreciate it when someone goes the extra mile for accuracy, and honestly, languages are cool

I’m so proud of myself for no longer being conflict-avoidant or conflict-initiating but mostly just conflict-meeting.

1. It sucks so so so so bad but it’s worth it.

2. You can’t make the change overnight. This was a lifestyle commitment I made over several years (initiated by a dramatic conflict in my life that made me realize I hated the way most people behaved around conflict).

3. Prioritize your mental well-being in times of peace so you can be rational and calm in times of conflict. Practice listening. Practice breathing. Practice doing it scared. Practice clarity. Practice sincerity. Do those things in little ways so you’re ready to do it in a big way later.

4. You have to leave behind passive-aggression, sarcasm, clever retorts, and irony. (In favor of clarity; sincerity.)

5. Know your boundaries so you can hold them. Remember, a boundary is not “YOU can’t speak to me like that,” a boundary is “If you continue to speak to me like that, I’ll end the conversation here.” (About what you do, not about what they do.)

6. Know when it’s actually time to remove yourself from a situation. It’s not being conflict-avoidant if you’re just making the choice to be safe or respectful. (The frequency of these situations will be reduced by repeated exposure, however.)
