dishwashers are more energy AND water efficient, two things we need to get very serious about very quickly. to specifically say you don't care how efficient they are is to say you don't care about the environment and the impact you have on it. which makes you a cunt, plain and simple.

on top of that, without one you simply cannot get dishes to a sanitary level of clean unless you're going to use harsh chemicals, which is bad for you and the environment. those fuckers are basically low-level autoclaves. so not only is that great for most foodborne bacteria, but a lot of other common bacterias that could get you sick AND viruses.

dishwashers can wash a lot of other things too! as long as it can tolerate the heat and can stay in a fixed position, you can toss it in. hats, backpacks, and shoes, for example.

you might as well say air conditioning is a luxury only for spoiled americans for how stupid of a stance that is. (oh wait, most europeans do in fact say that. lmao.)

It’s like the same as “oh, you’re gay? You should meet my buddy ronathon he’s gay you’ll love him he’s great” or “oh, you’re Hispanic? You should meet my friend ronathon he’s Hispanic you’ll love him he’s great” or “oh you’re a woman? Genuinely get physically sick opening TikTok when there’s a new TADC episode. All I’ll get is a bunch of “reviews” or “analysis” from literal children with zero media literacy.

And like yknow I didn’t have media literacy from ages 4-13, hardly anyone would at those ages. But seeing these children with access to a platform shout out their brain dead takes on (usually) Ragatha or Jax is insufferable.

I think a lot less people would feel threatened by the prospect of a character being aroace if they learnt how to conceptualize and write character relationships and dynamics outside of sex and romance. Because as long as people think no longer being able to write both characters in their favourite dynamic being sexually and romantically attracted to each other means a loss in intimacy and closeness, they're going to see any aroasexuality as an attack on character dynamics they care about and get upset when characters are confirmed aroace, unless those characters are unshippable side characters they never really cared about so they never accidentally get invested in an aroace character.

a favorite memory:

when i was in fifth grade, we read a book in school where a young girl in prehistory finds a dolphin skeleton. and i was so taken in by the description of the bones, how there were fingers in the fins, that i came home to my dad and told him "i think that when humans came out of the oceans, dolphins did, too, but they went back in."

my dad went upstairs and came back with an issue of analog magazine, the sci-fi digest he read religiously, and handed it to me.

"here," he said. "you're ready for this."

some people responding to this with "you were right" or "he should have gotten you a bio textbook" are missing the actual point of this.

it was never about being right or not. it was about my dad seeing that i was engaging with science literature and analyzing it and inviting me to read science fiction so he could share it with me.

also, when i say dad read the magazine religiously, i mean that when i was in 1st grade and it was his turn to come in and read to the class, he read a story from analog. i mean that when he went outside to smoke, it was always with that magazine in his hand.

this is a favorite memory because it was one of the first times my dad saw me as a grownup and engaged with me intellectually as one. nothing to do with right and wrong or facts.
